  1. They should just feature these instead.
  2. Played on one of those all summer, wicked hard to play consistently in tune. Can't even imagine what it'd be like on mello. Ouch.
  3. Well, I'm pretty sure the answer to the first one is Canaries and Huskies, without looking it up... Gotta love Allentown.
  4. Audition materials located here: http://www.jerseysurf.org/pages/Forms Pretty involved stuff, sounds like another good season for Surf in '08.
  5. Actually, there seemed to be a decent balance of Surf and Spartans music, just no transition between the two...a pretty good representation of both.
  6. http://cbs2.com/video/?id=45418@kcbs.dayport.com&cid=71 I don't know if this has been posted here before, (if it has, and was removed, my apologies in advance!) but it's a TV spot from finals week on a CBS station in CA. Aside from the "Drumline" and "college band" references, it's an nice little piece that to my great enjoyment, features footage of the tops of Div. II. Pretty cool.
  7. I always thought duts sounded kind of cool, and that was before I even marched/knew what they were for, haha. I can appreciate duts now, and definitely think corps of the 80's are pretty BA for not being able to use them at all. That said, as a person in support of/not annoyed by duts, I agree with everyone who said they should be kept to a minimum during soft sections...kills the mood for me.
  8. Agreed. Always did em when I knew a friend marching, and love to hear it when I'm on the field. And now to anxiously await the finals DVD to see if I can hear myself on it :P
  9. Oh phew, I thought I was imagining things...I've listened to '99 a ton, and '96 only a few times, but the first time I heard '96 I knew that bit sounded extremely familiar but didn't (and still don't) understand why it was in '96 and 99.... anyone? any particular significance to the part?
  10. I'm pretty sure you'll find a good recording if you google video search it, unless of course that's what you did already. But yeah, I have to say, Cadets 99 is incredible. The mellos....oh, the mellos. Quite possibly my favorite DCI show. (And my avatar...haha)
  11. Then you obviously haven't experienced it. It's possible to march and live in the real world; I spent a summer with a corps and the experience there applies to the real world. Work ethic, discipline, all of that. It transfers to real life. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
  12. I took it off, but it's still intact ...It's right with my silver medal :)
  13. I have a whole bunch...the first hit of Cadets '87, first big hit of Surf '07, beginning of Cadets '99 and the push at the end of 99 too...beginning of Madison '95, Phantom '05, a bunch from Cadets '00.... yeah, I love my drum corps ringtones. A.k.a. I'm a huge dork. Mm, that's good stuff too.
  14. Cadets '05 and '99 are both gorgeous...Phantom this year was fabulous, though.
  15. I cringe every time I listen to the APD of Jersey Surf's prelims performance and the you hear the helicopter fly over. Ugh.
  16. Something like this may have been done already, but I forget...with the thread being 94 pages long now.
  17. I did the same, I've played clarinet for around 9 years now (it's my major now), picked up trumpet in time for my senior year of HS and now I'm in my second year of college band on trumpet. I really can't say how easy or hard it is in general, for me it wasn't that bad since once I started, I played all the time, and had minimal actual instruction. I think as someone who's never played any brass before and is looking for a quick start, baritone or mellophone are better options; since baris (only speaking in some cases) won't be quite as demanding musically, though physically are harder... So, after 2.5 years of trumpet, I marched my rookie season this summer with [the best brass line in Div. II, figure it out yourself since they don't appreciate members chatting it up on here], had an amazing time, and improved exponentially. I plan to audition Div. I in November, but I'm definitely going back to my beloved div. II if I can't earn a spot in div. I. That's another thing...everyone says it, and I agree- if you don't make your 'dream corps', by all means, march somewhere! You won't regret it.
  18. Dude, have you marched in the last 30 years? If so, you'd know that while corps don't completely rip fields apart and tear up the sod, we sure don't leave them in pristine shape after a day or two of rehearsal, or, say, 3 days of 12 to 21 corps performing on said field.
  19. I'm watching Santa Clara Vanguard '99... Blue Shades is their closer...but I keep mentally inserting narration, help! But I guess in an attempt to make this a constructive thread, what's anyone's preference between the two, musically? (None of that OMG narration is teh suckz business). Personally, I'm still deciding, as this was the first time I actually watched SCV's version.
  20. Fabulous pictures! It's so hard to find good ones of the II/III's, and I definitely found one of me that's better than all the ones on Jolesch. Thanks! ^_^
