  1. The Blue Devils have some suggestions. Blue Devils Brass FAQ's
  2. I sent you a PM, but here are the pics: Pearl Quads
  3. Dear God, please be with Jeff and his family in this time of tragedy. +++ I'm so sorry Jeff. I don't know what else to say. -Dave
  4. You missed the best versions. Go to Youtube, and search on these three: "future corps malaguena" "blast! malaguena" And you won't believe this last one, but from the Drum Corps Japan championships. "Yokohama Inspires 2007 DCJ Winner's Show" There is actually a better show, I was thinking Nishahara, but I can't find the version I want. There is an unbelievable Japanese all-Malaguena show out there somewhere.
  5. Definition of a troll post. No discussion desired, just a closed mind, trying to elicit responses. Do not feed the trolls.
  6. Geez you're emotional. +++ Make mine the finest mello solo in DCI history, 2008 Phantom Regiment's Sparticus.
  7. Somebody has those, and I'm thinking maybe Arizona Academy. Just this year they went to Jupiter brass in Bb, from the 3-valved bugles, I think. +++ I also think the DCA corps SoCal Dream is selling off G bugles.
  8. Jesus Christ, Superstar. They get to dress up the drum major as Jesus, and bring him back from the dead.
  9. I've got to gently disagree with you on one minor point, my friend; I didn't like the way Bluecoats put narration back IN to their show at the end of the season. They took out the junky 'counting to ten' (TWICE), but then put it back in at the end. I thought it was TOTALLY unnecessary. If you're referring to last years' BC shows, then I agree. I liked what they did last year. +++ My suggestion is not for a corps, but for DCI: Give the on-field judges gray pant and shirt, instead of the white pants they wore this year. The judges should be NOT-seen, and NOT-heard (and NOT be run over from being on the field!) (I'd vote to get ALL the judges off the field, but that's another thread)
  10. Have you ever heard the beautiful soprano solo from BD 1988, "Since I Fell for You?" (the last tune) That was played by Tim Root, the mod "Big Brother" on the Blue Devils Discussion Board. Tim's principal instrument was clarinet.
  11. Jeez, that's awful presumptuous of you. Ms. Crown1 sounds like a grown woman. Do you really think she needs you to report something for her? If she changes her mind and has something more to say, will you then report to the admins to keep the thread open for her a little longer? I have a strong feeling Ms. Crown1 can take care of herself.
  12. I took that in the context of your entire writings, and I knew what you meant. I think you have a good heart. Attention Trolls: Yes, I'm being judgmental.
  13. With all due respect, I think the issues you raised are important to many people. I'll speak for myself, they are important to me. I would suggest that ANY reader on DCP can shut this thread down immediately on an individual basis by simply reading another thread, or not posting. I think the usual trolls have weighed in to attack you instead of talking with you, but hey, that's what trolls do. I assure you there are some responses on this very thread that when I see the name, I just skip to the next post. I don't see the need for anybody to shut anything down, except on an individual basis. And I would hate to miss out on the truly good advice I think several good people have taken the time to share. I hope you don't mind me learning while listening "over your shoulder."
  14. Why is it unfair? And how can you say who is and who is not qualified to judge? You sound young. Maybe there is some drum corps history with which you are not familiar. If you ask, maybe some of the "old timers" can fill you in. Just be aware that when you ask these old people, every story starts out with "back when I marched everything was better..."
  15. If you're referring to me, "too late." Two down, and one to go. +++ Personal to Mr. usmcontra: First of all, thank you for your service to our country. Everyone who is in the military is giving the best years of their lives, no matter what his or her MOS. I give you my most sincere "thank you." Second of all: I don't post here much, so I'm sorry if I've missed many of your posts, but have you ever talked about your experiences with the USMC D&BC? If you would like to start a thread on that that sometime, I'll read every word. My son is interested in the military as a Navy Seal, but he's still young and has more of a video game understanding of what war is. In any case, if he wants to serve his country, I'll be the proudest dad around and support him 100%. But he can really play that trumpet of his, and I would interested to know what kind of life you military musicians live everyday. I'd just like to be able to tell him how his two loves, music and military combine.
  16. I am a conservative, which means I believe in individual responsibility. Instead of pounding this woman because she has the courage to say what she means, your statement should read "not everyone shares MY values." Then if you respect individual differences (like conservatives do) her posts will make much more sense to you.
  17. Gack! You're the SECOND person I've had to explain this to who can't read emoticons! See my reply to Mr. Cadet2000, directly upstream. I was just kidding.
  18. Apparently, you need a course on what those goofy, smiley emoticon thingies mean. The  means "tongue-in-cheek", and I used it in an obviously futile attempt to indicate some small humor on my part. Some people just don't get good sarcasm! (I feel like I can pick on you just a little bit Mr. Cadet2000 because I like your stuff, you always make good common sense. So don't take this post as a flame, because where I'm from, we only pick on people if we like them. ) Your points are well taken.
  19. I have 3 years or marching experience and am now involved with another corps. I have NEVER witnessed or heard of outdoor, group showering. (27/soa post #4) on the shower thing: i HAVE heard a story where some kids went out into a field and showered in the sprinklers. (Kekkles Post #17) ++++++++ 4.) Hooking up??? are you serious?? after running around on field for 16 hours, i dont care how horny you are. SEx would be the last thing on your mind. (Josh161 post #10) 4. Yes, hooking up occurs. That happens when the males and females of any mammal species come together. Is it encouraged? Of course not. I've never heard a director say in a corps meeting, "Okay everybody, make sure you have lots of sex on the bus tonight...all of you!" 90% is a grossly exaggerated figure for any corps. (Goldingna Post #12) +++++++++ Y'all need to get together and get your stories straight! Apparently, at least one of you is seriously confused. Or, could it be, that Ms. Crown1 had legitimate concerns? +++ Since there seems to be such great confusion in the DCP community, allow me to tell you about Ms. Crown1, even though she and I have never met: 1. She is a deadly serious parent (that's a good thing) 2. She has morals and values 3. She's looking for a good experience for her child, and she's doing her research to see "what's out there" in the drum corps world, before she exposes her child to it. 4. She knew she would get hammered by the more immature posters on DCP, yet she choose to air her concerns anyway. That tells me she doesn't mind taking a risk, and that she's a communicator. Bravo, Ms. Crown1. You are not what's wrong with parents today.
  20. A good choice. That is a great, modern show. I love all the old corps mentioned, but to show a newbie a program that was done more than a quarter of a century ago is exactly what it looks like, outdated. I would pick a modern show that's fun, loud, soft, and even non-music fans would recognize most of the music. The best corps to show to newbies from 2008 would be Carolina Crown.
  21. Very good question. I will partially DQ myself since I didn't see them live this year. From the recaps the drum line ran around 6th, the horns, 5th, color guard 5th. I don't want to sound trite, but a corps that scores 5th in the major categories usually isn't competitive for the Big Prize. I thought Mr. Festive made a very astute point when he said focusing on the narration might have kept the staff from focusing on other design elements. Cadets made really nice changes in the show late in the year. Had they started that earlier, who knows? My conclusion is the narration did not hurt the show in terms of placement. Even without it, the show probably would have finished 5th. +++ Hint to those who don't like this topic: Don't read it, and don't respond.
  22. Nice review, thanks. There was a used Harrellson on Ebay a month ago for about $1800. I think it was a prototype for a new model. It was slated as an easy to blow model, but the knock was that it didn't need so much air to make it work. That demo program seems like a good idea.
