  1. One of the most difficult CG tricks I've seen is Ahab circling that harpoon over his head using a rope. I've seen the whale both catch it, and miss it.
  2. Same for Thor cutting off Thanos' arm in one of the Avengers movies (Endgame?). Thanos later told Thor "you should have gone for the head."
  3. Cavaliers, Boston, Blue Devils I thought Bostons snares were really together tonight. I could really hear their great sound from the home theater speakers.
  4. 1. Blue Devils (handedly) 97.688 I guessed they would win relatively big. I found myself head nodding on many of their tunes, what a groove they have. They sounded great on the big speakers tonight. 2. Bluecoats 96.688 * (3rd) I was not an early fan of that off-beat show but I am now as this show has really grown on me. I had them in 2nd tonight. 3. Boston Crusaders 96.3 * (4th) I thought I heard some sections where the horns and drums did not sync well which I thought put them in 4th. The snares sounded crisp! 4. Carolina Crown 96.975 * (2nd) Lush horn line and I think I am beginning to follow what the prancing guys are doing. BTW, I thought King Arthur got stabbed, but he seemed to be OK by the Crown set. Can somebody tell me the story? 5. Cadets 93.688 I love the opening hit and ballad. Their opening circle drill had two lines which merged while circling finally had some coherence so you could see what they were trying to do. That had to help them with GE. Drums and horns are my favorite of 5-6-7 with the ballad being my favorite. 6. Mandarins 93.363 Fantastic show, I thought they might have won this block for the night. 7. Phantom Regiment 92.675 Splitting hairs of course but I thought what they lacked were big moments. Lots of great chords, almost a little too much and I never thought I'd say that about a drum corps show. 8. Cavaliers 91.788 This is another show that has really grown on me. The secret that everybody knows is that Cavies percussion is king of the hill. I don't know if anybody predicted that coming into the season.
  5. We all are. Congratulations on your win! πŸ€œπŸ˜ŽπŸ€›
  6. You predicted the top four in the quarterfinals?!? That's pretty good predictin'. πŸ€œπŸ€› 😎
  7. Yeah, they're pretty bad, maybe 7th or 8th overall. /sarcasm πŸ€“ I heard all the top corps through my home theater (think BIG horn loaded speakers) BD was phenomenal tonight. There will be a good spread between them and everybody else.
  8. Aaand another new Big Ending for the Blue Devils! There's your night's winner. Bluecoats - top percussion for the top 4 Crown - best in brass Boston (who I thought was not quite tight as usual with their sound)
  9. We need guard snobs. To explain colorguard so those of us who don’t have a clue. πŸ™‚
  10. My placements are: cadets phantom mandarins for the oldest reason in the world. Cadets have a little better brass and percussion. other than that it’s a pick β€˜em.
  11. The move that would put mandarins over the top is that they would put a sinner in the end zone and have him throw a baritone that was all crushed up onto the field. πŸ‘Ί
  12. On my home theater set up phantoms Hornline Was a bit fatiguing.
  13. Wow, wow wow cadets! They cleaned up the narration! I never thought they would but it really makes the show flow better. No more β€œwe are atlas.β€œ I’m with you!
  14. I'm just your opposite. I find the curved bars visually ineffective as viewed from the stands. I know Cadets try to do creative things with them symbolically but the bottom line is that it just doesn't do anything for me. My reaction isn't "wow, look at the weight of the world being shown by the colorguard," rather my reaction to this creative CG work is either "huh?" or "eh."
  15. I actually liked 1988 better myself, more emotional in the company front Music of the Night. πŸ‘ The 1989 show was cleaned for two years so by finals, it was pretty smooth. 😎
  16. You forgot 1989 but I fixed it for you. πŸ€œπŸ€›
  17. This just came out so I thought I'd share and make the topic on judging open ended for discussion. Comment on the video or on judging, scoring system, whatever you want.
  18. Since this show is over, I just happened to see the DCI rankings so I thought I'd post it here for some general discussion. It was interesting and just a bit shocking to see Cavaliers over Phantom as determined by DCI. If I'm a Cavaliers fan I'm texting this to anyone who will listen. You may not see this again in 2023. πŸ‘ 😎 πŸ™
  19. It is confusing because this was the only way I could cut and paste and I couldn't get the Headings copied. The first set of numbers is the 3-day average and that's how the Rankings are determined by DCI. The second set of numbers is Most Recent Score. I edited as best I could to put the dci.org link in.
  20. In the Not That It Matters Category, look who's ranked just above Phantom: https://www.dci.org/scores/rankings 1 Blue Devils World Class 95.700 96.125 2 Bluecoats World Class 95.067 95.250 3 Carolina Crown World Class 94.971 95.725 4 Boston Crusaders World Class 94.192 95.475 5 The Cadets World Class 91.775 92.125 6 Mandarins World Class 91.704 92.225 7 The Cavaliers World Class 91.233 91.600 8 Phantom Regiment World Class 91.175 91.975
  21. Does anyone know yet if there will be an intermission? If a show is running late sometimes they will skip that part.
  22. We all feel sorry for you. It must be terribly difficult to hear the corps from way up there...🀣
  23. One of those gentlemen should really offer the lady a seat.
