and When was the last time April taught?  15-20 years ago?  You can’t beat on the kids these days...Uugh.

I mean their selling it like ...we’re the cadets again.  So what about the last two years, way to spot on the members.  You weren’t the cadets?  Really?

Ah, the luxury of being a Dino! What’s old, is new again!!!! I hope they put an old twist on what passes for DCI these days. Art AND execution! Bring it.

BOCOOK, GILLIGAN-MARTINEZ RETURN FOR 2020, BONFIGLIO NEW DIRECTOR

The Cadets are excited to announce the return of several familiar faces from Cadets history and welcome a few new faces for 2020. Jay Bocook, Jeff Sacktig, April Gilligan-Martinez and many more Cadets greats will rejoin The Cadets in a continuing effort to drive the corps towards the future. In addition, Denise Bonfiglio will step into the role of Corps Director bringing decades of experience and knowledge to the corps.

"To say we're excited for the 2020 season is an understatement," said Denise. "We've already assembled a great team and we're actively working on the upcoming season. The combined experience and excellence of the group is just outstanding and the future looks bright with what we have in store."

Scott Litzenberg, Cadets Corps Director for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, will be taking on a critical, new role for the 2020 season in addition to working with Denise as an advisor for the corps. He will be stepping into a community relations role for YEA! and supporting the directors of all of YEA!’s programs. He will be integral in recruiting new students and ensembles for YEA! programs in addition to managing relationships with current supporters. Part of Scott’s role will also include alumni relations for The Cadets, a group near and dear to his heart.

“I am excited to see the progress we are making on the Big Three Goals of providing excellent programs, being financially secure, and being a great place to work and volunteer,” said Doug Rutherford, Chairman of the Board of Directors for YEA! “The Cadets are continuing to build on the foundation of 85 years of history and a dedication to excellence. We are incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of Scott Litzenberg over the past two seasons. I am glad to know Scott will be with us for the next phase of our journey as we go forward to being The Cadets”

Leading the charge with Denise is Ron Lambert, who will be stepping into the role of Assistant Corps Director for The Cadets. Ron served as the Assistant Director for the Boston Crusaders for the last three years and the 2020 season marks his 36th year in the activity. He is entering his 16th year as the Director of Bands and is the Fine Arts Department Chair for Lakewood Ranch High School. A former member of the Illiana Lancers and The Cavaliers, Ron has also served as an instructor and arranger for band programs and drum corps around the country. He is a 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Award recipient and is a GRAMMY nominee, finishing as a quarterfinalist for the 2017 GRAMMY Educators Award.

Thanks Terri! I’m hopeful for the Cadets!

You came to the wrong place.

Unfortunately, you’re right. Look who thought your remark was funny. Some people just throw out garbage for attention. I don’t roll that way. Ridicule is not a good way to make your point in life, maybe on the internet but when you’re facing someone in person it’s a different story.

9/2/19 10:28 am edt. The time hell froze over and I agreed with Cappybara on something.

As stated before, we agree on more things than not, we’re just too tribalized to admit it. Hold on for another day and we’ll have real debate material! Until then, have a safe Labor Day.

Interestingly, Alex Haddad (who started our corps after resigning as the Director of the St. Thomas Crusaders DBC - the "band" of the all-male high school in Rockford operated by the Augustinian order with an all-female guard drawn from the all-girl school nearby, Bishop Muldoon) originally chose Rockford Rangers as the corps' name. The Rangers was a reference to Rockford's image as the Forest City because of the proliferation of elm trees throughout the city.

The all-female guard (which included Mr. Haddad's 2 daughters) was to be known as the Rangerettes.

Some members of the new corps thought outside the box and approached Mr. Haddad with the name Phantom Regiment. The story is that Mike Gallagher and Jim Wren were listening to DBC recordings and discovered a Leroy Anderson song called "The Phantom Regiment" played by the Syracuse Brigadiers. . Alex agreed, the corps became Phantom Regiment and the guard became the Phantomettes.

Thank you so much. I hope others enjoy hearing this bit of history as much as I have.

You probably already know that I came in during the Bob and Peg Stollberg era. Between the Fays, Neffs, Frys, Kistings, Farrell’s to name several we were always surrounded by family. I can’t begin to tell you how much this organization means to me.

I’m proud to be part of such a legacy. SUTA

But I digress.... Let’s get this thread back on track! Anxious to here what changes are coming down the pike for everyone.

    THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN!!!!

In 1963, the Regiment was an all-male corps, including the CG.  In 1964, the Regiment converted to its original standard of a male and female corps with a return of the Phantomettes.

As an aside, in one of our early years (between 1956 & 1960) a few MMs formed an all-male Color Guard and competed on the winter guard circuit; we called ourselves the Raiders; we lasted one year. These days, the Regiment's CG  includes males and they are called Raiders.

Thank you for the clarification. For some reason I remember it as The Forest City Rangers.

Suta - if rumored changes come to pass, we know what is going to happen.  The fair weather fans are going to come out in droves.  Suddenly Phantom is going to be relevant for their expectations.

Yet through all of this you support the corps.  Through everything.

You were a participant in the formative years during their initial rise to the top.  So were others on here.  Yet your learned something else.

You are the definition of Phan.  Through thick and thin.  Always supporting.  Always there.  Always motivating current members.

You represent what Phantom stands for.

Thanks for your kind words Continental. I guess it’s like being a Cubs fan......but different.

It was the support of our friends and families, their belief in us that pushed us into DCI. I may come off like a Pollyanna to some because I try to keep things positive. Just offering the support I received when I marched to the current MMs. I’d be willing to bet that many of us who marched drum corps got our inspiration from those who marched before us. We all need to do a better job of paying that support forward.

I’m not naive, change is needed @ Regiment but I think singling out one person for this season’s placement is a bit short sighted...there is plenty of blame to go around. After coming close to ending a 45 year run as DCI finalist, I hope and pray the board and corps director are working on a way to ensure the corps’ success on the field for another 45 years.

Excellent video.  Shows that no matter the placement, the passion and value of the experience is amazing.  I did fine until they got to the leaving their tags on the field.

That is a tradition with several corps....not just Regiment. Call it a rite of passage. They still exist.

I can't believe there is a rumor that JD Shaw is returning to Regiment, and you're down on it out of some bizarre loyalty to Pitts.

I actually wouldn't be opposed to Pitts being in a weak program coordinator role. But them collaborating in arranging? That'd be destined for failure.

Whoa. Who said I’m down on that idea? Again, my words are being misconstrued. Not sure if it’s by accident or intentional.

Please explain why this collaboration would be a disaster????

My loyalty to Will Pitts is my business isn’t it? I think he has represented himself and the Regiment well. Some feel a Pitts/Shaw collaboration would be beneficial. I’m hopeful these are not just rumors. JD could certainly show Will the ropes on arranging for this iteration of drum corps. I have a lot of respect for both JD and Will.

Lol yeah anyone who's "in" on Reddit has the same info he's giving us.

There's quite an interesting little tid bit on there about Pitts being out of the program coordinator AND brass arranger role at phantom. I'll hold back my enthusiasm until I actually see it happen though.

Whatever.......I really hope they prove you wrong.

A Shaw/Pitts collaboration on arranging? Interesting.
