    psst....2019 season is over.

Aww c”mon Jeff. (Insert beating dead horse emoji)

I must say, this brought a few tears to my eyes.

a message to the MMs of 2019 Regiment:

SUTA I am so proud of each and EVERY one of you.

moderators, if I did something wrong by attaching this, please pull my post. Thank you

There was an allusion made in another thread about JD Shaw returning to Regiment. No idea if that's legit, but if so, what INSTANT credibility to build a design team around. You call a drill designer and say "oh, and JD Shaw is arranging," and that changes a conversation.

I’m sure there are caption heads who prefer to work with certain caption heads.

  3. Did you ever march? Don’t care if it was with PR.... just askin’. No flame bait here just trying to understand your point of reference.

I’ve held a few positions in Regiment from MM to marching instructional staff to support staff to board member over the years. Does this make me all knowing? Absolutely not! It does, however, give me a hands on insight on how the organization works. Which is why I  say Regiment is @ a crossroads. I applaud them for trying to fill a need in the Rockford area and on tour offering educational camps. It’s a noble cause but it is taking away from the competitive side of things.

It doesn’t matter who any of us wants to take over the PC job or design staff. It’s up to the board/ corps director to decide what Regiment will be in the next decade.

Not putting anyone on the spot here, just placing responsibility at the feet of the folks who can do something about it.

I think a lot of us feel the same way, we just have different ways of expressing it.

Quite interesting you felt the need to comment this again after it was removed by the mods the first time

Pulled why? If it was so incendiary why was it allowed to stay the second time.

I’m sorry if your feelings were hurt...the first time.

And you've made the point that everything is hunky dory ad nauseum. I'm just trying to get you to understand that you have a positive outlook, therefore you're absolutely correct. And my outlook is not so peachy (significant improvement over last year but significant design issues relative to their competitors), therefore I'm lame and garbage and whatever negative descriptor you choose.

I'm intent on pointing out design flaws and perhaps leadership flaws. To fix those, naturally those in charge of those flaws should not be allow to continue to create those flaws year after year (especially given a substantial number of years to correct them and improve). My idea of building on the success of connecting with the audience is finding folks who can design a competent show that connects with the audience from day 1.

Frankly you get pretty nasty with those that don't agree with you - like what point does it serve to suggest that people appreciating the corps would somehow bother me? That really is an absurd statement.

Perhaps you need to re-read several of my posts. Things are not hunky dory with the current design team. Never said it was so please, don’t speak for me. I am one of the first to say that change in leadership is needed. The current board needs to decide what direction the corps is going to go.

I am guilty of being positive about the members who choose to march Regiment. There is no denying how their sheer determination and hard work paid off for them this year. Design issues aside, those marching members did what was asked of them and then some.

Are you as critical of other corps this season when it comes to design?  Are you asking another corps to clean house?

I have tried to make my points respectfully even in our debate...so I’m not quite sure when I became nasty.....such an unfortunate word.

You suggesting that visual design changes need to be made: no scapegoat involved

Me suggesting that brass arranging changes need to be made: scapegoat garbage

If changes don't occur across the board (with the possible exception of percussion), I'll be disappointed AND lame.

Well, based on a number of your posts they are ###### if they do/###### if they don’t. You haven’t liked the corps for several season, citing this head should roll or that person needs to be let go = scapegoat garbage.

Now you’re Intent on ousting Will Pitts. You’ve made that point ad nauseam. While the corps didn’t do well competitively this year, many people have noticed a change for the better, that the coros was connecting more with the audience. So why not build on that iota of success?

Perhaps all the appreciation the corps received this year bothered you?

the new electronix guy at Regiment for the second part of the '19 season is someone who well understands the sentiments expressed above, recently aged out only two seasons ago, and had to follow instructions from the front office, caption manager, and program coordinator.  So he shouldn't get all the flack.  Besides he's a distant cousin but a great guy.

I wasn’t picking on the individual. They were taking their direction from staff. My post was about electronics in general....put more of the performance back in the hands of the performers and not rely on samplings to get your point across.

Imagine complete musical phrases making a comeback. Foster musical talent by playing music not by schlepping a prop around the field.

Let drum corps be drumming, horn playing and marching. Let WGI be the electronic dance troupes. There’s room for both.

I tend to agree. I still think the visual program needs the most work and wish Will Pitts would stick to arranging and relinquish his show coordinating duties, though I don’t have a good candidate for that position.

Agree whole heartedly. I just think it’s unfortunate that the task of “bugling/horn playing” is being offloaded to electronics to free up marchers for dance/awkward body movements/pushing props around. Thankfully, there are a couple of corps that still manage to march and play at the same time.

Is it time for Regiment to tap a successful WGI designer? I’m not sure nor do I think fans would like it to happen. Question is, if this is what’s needed to revive their competitive edge would the die hard fans accept it or ridicule it?

Please, gimme a second to don my asbestos unitard before you flame me.

    Thanks in advance

  9. While the idea of Ward Miller @ Regiment is an interesting one, gotta give him credit for his great work w/Blue Stars,  I think Brad Toth along with Will Pitts are starting to restore the Regiment’s signature sound. Now if we could please just get away from the synthesized bottom half and prerecorded stuff and replace it with honest to goodness horn playing. I for one would welcome that change.

So are you to blame for Will Pitts being hired for positions he wasn't fit for?!?

No. There is a reason my avatar is Sutasaurus. We’re talking several years ago.

You  certainly are entitled to your opinion of WP but calling for his dismissal won’t right the ship. This scapegoat crap is old.

oh, BTW I’m sending a swarm of locust to your inbox.....

Yes, but FIRST how do they operate.  I can tell from everyone posting here they don't understand their structure.  I didn't either til I sat down for breakfast with someone that knows.  People are pointing fingers without seeing the overall structure of the organization.

So, please. Enlighten us on the structure. You seem to have an inside source. Do tell. We’re all ears.

This former board member wants to know.....

Here is (allegedly) a link to companies headquartered in Rockford - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Companies_based_in_Rockford,_Illinois . From what you see below, none of them are currently sponsors for the corps. Why?

    No photo description available.

What r u trying to say here???? The corporations in Rockford are being hit up daily for funding for local charities. The group of sponsors you list in the gray block are not based in Rockford but they are currently sponsoring the corps.  They marched King horns, FJM designed/manufactured their uniforms. Where do you get your info Jeff?

I’ll go back to my theory.... Regiment can afford to be one or the other, a music outreach for underserved communities or a competitive DCI corps. They can’t do both.

We were like a street gang with instruments in the mid 70s.

I can remember being out east, Salem,MA to be exact. Both Regiment and Madison were housed on the rough side of town. One night the local youth came by wanting to start trouble....between the two corps, we didn’t have “problems” with them after that night.
