  1. Battalion is not listed in the Open lineup (nor World Prelims) posted on dci.org. One other big corps missing from World Prelims is Blue Devils B. They are shown in Open Championships. It's unfortunate BD is denying their B corps the additional performance opportunities, and also the fans will miss them for Prelims and (likely) Semis.
  2. If you have about 10 minutes and aren't familiar with what high school lines can do, check this out. The new BOA Grand National Champion final run through with a camera following the drum line around. Vandegrift drumline @ final rehearsal I realize comparing outdoor and indoor is a little bit apples and oranges, but for percussionists, how does this line compare to someone like Chino Hills? I wonder how many alumni of this 10-year old program have marched corps, and if any of these young men and women plan to march in DCI once their high school days end.
  3. Anyone know of any Open Corps applying to be World Class corps? Groups applying for Open Class status? Any Open corps who did not attend Championships last year and plan to do so in 2020 (thereby competing in World Class Prelims, making it relevant to this forum)? Finally, in addition to Kidsgrove Scouts, any word of other International groups coming?
  4. I remember DCI South Prelims at Legion Field in Birmingham in the '80s. I could feel the heat through the soles of my shoes. That was probably different turf than anyone uses these days.
  5. Wireless mic change Marching Roundtable podcast about mandated frequency changes. Posting this not so much for corps as for band directors and staff who may not be aware of the coming change.
  6. I understand, which is why I specifically mentioned rehearsals in unused exhibit hall space during a down time in the convention season. The new stadium is an indoor stadium.
  7. Las Vegas at the new Raiders stadium. The heat issue was largely dealt with by a DCP'er who actually lives there who pointed out two important factors# 1) The time of year DCI is held is a low point of the convention season, which means 2) Hundreds of thousands of square feet of unused convenrion space which could be used for rehearsals.
  8. WGI news- I see where the entity formerly known ad Pioneer Indoor based in Illinois is coming out as an Open line knowm as Pi Percussion. To the best of my knowledge, this group has no current ties to Pioneer. Meanwhile, there is an A line called Pioneer Indoor based in Milwaukee that has registered. I wish the best to the members of that line, but where are these members going to come from?
  9. A local news outlet published a list of new food offerings for LOS. An asterisk means available in. Suites only. Chicken and waffle sandwich that also has bacon and strawberry jam. Nachos with Indiana-raised duck shredded on top Several vegetarian options Surf and turf kabobs with beef and shrimp* Three foot Italian sub* Pimento mac and cheese bites* fresh baked pies, dip and salads* 'Burger of the Game,' based on each opponent Beer flights and hard seltzer
  10. Have we seen the last of OC? They still have an active webpage.
  11. Posting for a friend who had to leave Indy. Finals ticket available Sec. 140, Row 11, Seat 13. Call or text 214-697-1240 for arrangements.
  12. Still holding out for a successful event in the new Raider crib in Vegas in 2021.
  13. Per Pride of Cincinnati's website, they are taking the 2020 season off and plan to return in 2021.
  14. Yes. That is correct. Two Independent World guards in Indy. And to answer a prior poster, no effect to Blessed Sacrament, unless members from the Boston area are going to fly to Indy every weekend.
  15. My wife has zero marching background. She had no preconceptions. After seeing her first competition, the first thing she said was how much she hated voiceovers. She much preferred hearing the musicians play.
  16. Housing keeps becoming a bigger issue, see Cavies in California right now for example. Hypothetical: Fast forward 5 years. Current trends continue. The sleeping in a gym model dries up, if not completely than enough to impact multiple competitions. Despite best efforts, days before a contest with at least a half dozen world class corps, multiple corps either do not have housing despite best efforts, and/or previously secured housing is lost. Show promoters (perhaps DCI itself) has already spent lots of $. Tickets sold. Cost of hotels for multiple World Class corps and staff would be budget busters, if enough rooms could even be secured on such short notice. The kids have to eat/sleep/practice somewhere, but all options have been exhausted. In this not-so-farfetched scenario, what is the endgame? Cancellation of the event? If enough events are impacted, cancellation of the tour? What? Is there a "perfect storm" scenario in DCI guidelines for cases where housing just cannot be acquired? Where does responsibility fall on DCI vs the event promoter? Just thinking out loud about what tour may be like in a few years if schools, camps, and other adequate housing options cannot be found.
  17. As the person who started this thread, the intent is about corps who have had camps and pulled the plug, and what recourse members may have for monies spent for the purpose of marching with a specific group. Yes, once legal fees are factored in, it may well be a situation where it's a cost prohibitive endeavor to pursue. Ancillary issues such as liability for associate sponsors are way beyond the intended discussion.
  18. Considering three 2018 WC Semifinalists are not in the mix, Kidsgrove has a good chance to be the first overseas World Class Semifinalist corps.... or at least a much better chance without Vanguard Cadets, BDB, and Oregon Crusaders performing.
  19. Was Jackson Academy in 1993 the first group of any kind to use a tarp on a football field in a competition performance?
  20. Very well. I mentioned OC because this just happened, but honestly I had in the back of my mind other corps over the years that held camps, had offered and signed contracts, etc. Maybe a better way to ask the question is not about OC specifically, but any corps from any state (and the appropriate state court where the corps is located). Regarding OC specifically, it is my hope they will make things right, get the right people in Administration, and someday come back.
  21. This is hypotherical, but if an attorney representing all persons who paid fees, (including audition materials and transportation costs) to attend any Oregon Crusaders camp held for 2019 season filed a class action lawsuit against the OC organizarion either in Oregon state courts or Federal court (if there is a valid Federal case to be made), would there be a good chance of a judgement against the OC organization? If potential members were reimbursed, very well. I suspect they have not been. Seems like false advertising if the corps actively recruited and held camps, then pulled the plug after people already paid $.
  22. Actually.... Imo WGI Percussion is the single leading creative driving force in the marching world. Many things people think are innovative on the field were done first by a drumline in Dayton.
  23. Not saying those aren't legit points, but the Vegas show thread referenced in the original post addressed the rehearsal issue. Last time I checked, DCI has shows in Riverside and other hot areas of CA, shows in AZ, TX, and the deep south in the hottest times of the year. The latter two also have high humidity to deal with. Should we cancel San Antonio? While it's an indoor event, the week preceding and days following it are during the hottest (and just as important, most humid) part of the year in Texas.
