  1. Carolina Crown = overhyped. They had a lot of momentum and anticipation coming out of '09 with a lot of expectations of gunning for the title. Talented corps; but not enough this and that to top it off. Pioneer = (sadly) overhyped. In some ways, I have pity for this organization. There was a lot of hype and support for Pioneer during the winter and spring with a larger corps and new programming. As usual, they found themselves in familiar territory at the end. Somebody always has to be the rock bottom; but, unfortunately, it's become Pioneer, consistantly, with a firm grip on that position.
  2. The Blue Devils SHOULD HAVE lost a bass drummer on finals night back in 2000. I always wondered what happened to that kid when they finished performing that night.
  3. Well, another season has come and gone and Pioneer finds itself in the same old, same old. I remember reading quite a bit of hype about Pioneer in the off season and from what I've read and heard throughout the season, there are still a few odds and ends that need to be tended to before they start moving up the ladder. *Keep progressing with different themes and concepts, that seemed to be a strong positive this year. *The guard needs to be brought up to world class standards. I still see a very conservative guard within the Pioneer organization. *Visual and drill design need to be tweaked and refined. *Finally, get rid of those busses! Haven't those things been through enough?
  4. 1985 Argonauts: "Fame" 1985 Boston Crusaders: "Axel F" (see what you all started way back when!)
  5. Congrats on a nice season Pioneer and Seattle Cascades. Enjoy the rest of the week! From what I've read, both of those corps had positive growth in numerous areas. Here's hoping the off season is great for both of those corps and they come back bigger and stronger next year.
  6. Usually when a corps moves up multiple places, that process begins at the beginning of the drum corps season, which is developed during the off season. All corps have the desire and passion to place as high as possible and strive to move up as far as possible during finals week; but in this activity, reality overrides faith. The answers you are receiving are all based on the reality of where the Seattle Cascades are. If the Cascades keep progressing and refining year-to-year, they will eventually be right back up in the thick of it all.
  7. Ummm, not this year. However, I'm glad they are out there competing and performing. Looking at where you are from and how long you've been a part of DCP, I'll take it that you are sincere about your question. It will take quite a bit for the Seattle Cascades to return to finalist or semi-finalist status for that matter. However, they are alive, thriving, competing, and performing and it sounds like things are going well for them.
  8. Snooki. Snooki is going to show up and single-handedly break the Blue Devil's streak.
  9. So this has basically shaped DCI week. Any chance of Blue Stars upsetting SCV or moving up in the rankings? Doesn't look like it will happen now. I can only hope...just hope, that if it is so deserved and the Blue Stars knock one #### of a show out of Lucas Oil on Saturday night, that the judges do the right thing and reward them; regardless of who is in the G7. The way this thing is looking, none of the non-biggies will ever stand a chance of moving up in the rankings with this new system. Pretty sad.
  10. Blue Stars: *Hope for 6th or 7th place *Expect 7th or (been there done that) 8th place (geeez, three years in row? really? yaaaaawn.) *Dread 9th place *No need to worry about 10th place or lower
  11. I stated early in the season that it would be great for the Blue Stars to finish in 6th or 7th; here's hoping that happens. I'd be happy with either of those placements for the blue crew from La Crosse.
  12. Nice image 3rd Star! "I'm mad as H**l, and I'm not gonna take it anymore!"
  13. Personally, I'm partial to the Blue Devils shows of the 1980s (long live T.O.!); but in the spirit of this thread, I would most definitely have to go with Winged Victory. I actually liked that show. Currently, the Blue Devils are just a WGI music ensemble filled with some of the best and most talented members in DCI blasting out power chords and the occasional jazz chord while wearing semi-skirts (take those things off! What in the bloody h**l are you all trying to hide! Plus, they just look bad!).
  14. There is an old phrase, "On any given night...;" well, last night SHOULD have been one of those with the Blue Stars on top of SCV if only by tenths. This past week, if anything, has been shaping a lot of end of the season groupings (minus the Blue Devils) and the Blue Stars and SCV seem to be in thier own little battle. I just hope for all that is just and right that IF and only IF the Blue Stars continue to progress, clean, and refine thier program that they will reap the rewards in HONEST placement come finals. I said very early in the season that I feel that the Blue Stars have the makings of a 6th or 7th place corps this year and have been very critical of them at times. Yes, SCV is putting out quite a difficult production with their Bartok show; but last night, the Blue Stars have shown that they are ready to take them on and should have been rewarded in placement.
  15. Yeah, maybe all you really need is a good ol' "this one time, at band camp..." experience to release all your extra energy and calm you down.
  16. From what I observed, the Blue Stars deserved to have taken down SCV. Not by a whole heck of a lot; but they should have beaten them. If this instance is played out for the rest of the season, that will be a very unfortunate position for a corps that deserved to move up and a safety net for a corps to stay on the up and up because "they are part of the special group."
  17. Pioneer will beat the Blue Devils at Quarterfinals.
  18. The majority of world class members are above the age of Cyrus and Bieber. I know that I would have felt absolutely degraded and embarassed to have to enter the field with that juvenile music blasting in the background.
  19. Now that would be a complete Madison show! Ballet in Brass, Numero Uno, Strawberry Soup, and Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters! Being an alum of another Wisconsin corps, I would seriously be pulling for a kick a** season for the Scouts if they would play all four of those awesome classics in one season!
  20. I'll take some Numero Uno, Strawberry Soup, and Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters; thank you very much! Now THAT'S some sweet Madison!
  21. Ah, yes, the infamous Spaz! I do recall seeing him taking that hill.
  22. With all the rain outs, close call lightning strikes, etc. what are some your memorable storm stories from shows and/or tours past? 1988. Horicon, Wisconsin. Star of Indiana was on the field and tornadic storm was fast approaching. As the wall clouds started to spin up above, the show announcer said "Star of Indiana, leave the field!" They kept going and a funnel started forming above with the wind really whipping up. The announcer said again, "Star of Indiana, leave the field!" After that, the drum major cut the corps off, pointed to the back of the field, and after that a sea of pink made quick business of vacating the field. 1989. Dubuque, Iowa. Corps busses parked on the grass at the top of a hill. Storm comes and hits hard. Lots of rain. Busses sink into the grass and a wrecker had to come pull them out. One bus tried to make it down the hill and slipped quite a bit. Many drum corps members, especially those from the Madison Scouts, were enjoying slipping and sliding down the muddy hill.
  23. I've seen the show on the FN and I think it's a very well created WGI show that was developed for a drum corps. If they were to maximize a lot more of the field, like everyone else, I might like it. I still don't like the semi-skirts on the corps proper. Thank you for ditching those d**n die-nasties for a superior drum! The Pearls are awesome! P.S. Please, please, please bring back T.O. as an openner sometime!
