Steve Vickers email Re: Japan (recordings?)

Yokohama Scouts or the White Shooting Stars. Both amazing performances. Plus, no amps (not a thing with many groups in Japan, ironically), no frills while marching and playing their butts off. DCJ and JMBA designers still have it right and haven't caved to the sponsors/corporations. One of my favorites from this past year, White Shooting Stars: -

DCI World Championships Semifinals - 8/1215
IMcomguy replied to Dpsouthern81's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
This is so wrong it's not funny. There were entire electronic segments GONE, as in completely missing from the show. Maybe you just haven't seen them enough to really realize it. A friend of mine who works with Bluecoats said they had an entire electronics/effects meltdown. Some select mics were functional but nothing beyond that. Didn't you see the guy running to the right of the field back to the middle trying to get everything in working order? It went on the entire show. There was so much missing from tonight it was nearly unwatchable, including the build to the end, and the final sound effect of sliding down the ramps on the last note of the show. I felt terrible for those guys, I'm just so glad they still pulled through. I felt like the brass really ramped it up in response. -
The 2 tickets have been found!! Thanks!! Anyone else that may have 5 available (doubtful, I know), let me know!! Thanks.

Sorry for the last minute request, generally I'm covered by now. But I am in need of 2 super premium Finals tickets! I am willing to pay top dollar. I also need 5 extra (decent) if available for kids, but we may just head to the Box Office for those. Thanks to anyone for their consideration. You'll be compensated!!

DCI in Indy through 2028

Actually, you'd have to be 7 or 8 years old right now. If you were 12, you'd be 25 by 2028 and way past aged out. -

No, I'm not talking about last year. Think back to 2012, Cabaret Voltaire, with the giant ### rocking horses that doubled as clothes racks. The entire corps inventory of uniforms were on there until mid-show when they went from the spanx to the jackets. They simply knew they could get away with that entire process again, thus why you saw much of the idea brought back last year. Plus it actually worked with their show last year, unlike the former. And it's not clear to me that BD and Crown are in a league of their own. That's your opinion though. -
How are they deciding Atlanta line-up?
IMcomguy replied to tesmusic's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Sorry, calling a spade a spade here. BD's percussion sucked ALL YEAR in 2008. Not just a Finals. That is a fact. And actually, one of the percussion judges at Quarters already had BD in 5th and down 19.7 to 18.8 to Phantom. Almost a full point! So this wasn't some grand revelation on Finals night because of the judges who were "drawn" for the job. Taking a closer look, Phantom's drum scores went from 19.7/19.8 in Quarters to 19.6/19.7 in Semis (dropped) to 19.8/19.9 in Finals. So between Prelims and Finals they went up a total of a tenth of a point (they're averaged from both judges). Ohhhhhhhhhh nooooo. BD went from 18.8/19.5 to 18.9/19.3 to 19.0/19.0. Finals was actually the only night BD didn't have a judge still in the 18's!!! Are we saying Phantom wasn't allowed to improve a tenth in percussion over the course of those three nights? While BD simply continued to pound like trash cans? Dare we even take a look at judges being divas and just wanting to REALLY make statements??? May I direct you to last year.... BD's GE and Visual scores over three nights: P: 19.7 19.5 19.5 19.9 | 19.8 20.0 19.9 -- 1 Perfect score S: 19.9 20.0 19.8 19.7 | 19.9 19.9 19.9 -- 1 Perfect score F: 20.0 20.0 20.0 20.0 | 20.0 20.0 20.0 -- 7 Perfect scores Nobody is complaining about the draw of the judges. It was just about making a statement for the sake of doing so. Judges are irrational and ridiculous as can be, when they want to be. That is what we get for mixing in WGI (i.e. creators of "World Class" and an actual "Box 6" on the sheet) with this activity. But 2008 was about as level headed as you could get from the percussion and music side of things. And I'll stick to that until I die. (And by the way, Phantom and BD's final score was actually separated by 0.025, not 0.1. Just for the sake of clarifying that for you...) -

Actually, they were 4th. From 8th in prelims to 6th in semis as well. Still great though. BD, Cadets, and Crown were your Top 3. http://www.fromthepressbox.com/20140809wcfinals.htm/ -

And Crown's color guard was the T's McGee last night. Just a stunning and spectacular group they've got this year. This coming from a brass guy..... -

Winner winner chicken dinner. This takes me back to a few years ago with clothes racks on the field and the changing of costuming in plain sight from both the corps members and the guard. Imagine if Crown or Bluecoats or (insert corps here) attempted the same thing, it would be pounced on and called out in a heartbeat. Yet when BD does it, it's deemed revolutionary. The same could be said for a lot more than just this example, but I'll rest my case here as obviously someone else gets it like I do.
