  1. Being in a "blue" corps can be a shocking thing at retreat. And in X place.....The Blue....
  2. " I think that BD has somewhat plateaued and all there is left now to do is clean. Just my .02". Gotta love DCP. No, the BD show will continue to grow to the end as designed. It's a very organic design. They may not win but plateau is not a concern. Hopefully you can see the show live, it's quite spectacular and detailed. I do look forward to seeing Cadets live at Indi and anticipate a powerful presentation.
  3. Its only July 9th. BD has a great show that has room to clean and grow and is scoring in the top 3. They also have one of the most experienced staffs that know how to maximize and peak at the end of the season. I'm not making any predictions as the competition is great, but I think this makes BD a very dangerous corps indeed.
  4. Lot's of smart people here and yet nobody considers the economics of the small drum corps show sponsor. *Mid week show in small stadium does not have the potential to draw a huge crowd with high ticket prices. Especially when you are competing with big shows on the weekends. *Stadium rental cost and other logistic expenses to put on a show. Schools do not provide these things for free and it is not cheap. *DCI contract. Covers judges and payment to the corps and other overhead. How many top drum corps are in your show determines the contract price significantly. Consider that SCV or BD not attending a show and forgoing a show fee may be allowing the show sponsor a chance at not losing money or being able to put the show on at all. The visiting top draw corps also needs as many opportunities as they can to offset tour costs and these small show provide a pay day and incentive to travel west. When disputing what I have wrote, please indicate your participation and knowlege of sponsoring a small mid week show. I have been involved with small independent group show planning and the chance of losing money is very real. You need to be smart in all things drumcorps related including the economics of it all.
  5. For a corps that is accused of not being entertaining, there seems to be endless discussion about their shows with a great deal of history, reseach and theory being offered. I hate it when that happens. :rolleyes:/>
  6. I'm so proud of my corps and others that sponsor these groups. I loved the excitement and waiving to their family and friends in the stands before the show starts. PURE JOY OF PERFORMANCE!. And on top of it there are a couple moves that would take me a while to get my head around. Well done.
  7. I enjoy your posts. So angry and jarring. dada
  8. You said it brother. The show concept is really not that hard to understand. Sure you can go pretty deep if you want to or just understand that dada is pretty much opposite of what you might expect. I think it’s a fantastic show live that is strong in every caption. I’m also a fan of the simple beauty and story of Phantom. SCV is always a favorite and getting stronger. I can’t wait to hear Crown and even though its deeply ingrained in me to dislike, I might even sing a Christmas carol or two before the season is done.
  9. Jarring and out of place. Just a little bit of research and you may find that you actually are educated.
  10. When you consider that all the top corps have not met in the same show yet, these predictions are suspicious anyway. (watching on fan network does not count). With that said as of July 4 there have been enough shows and scores to see that Crown, BD and Cadets are at the very least contenders for the title. History also shows the BD is not a corps that fades as the season continues. I'm not going to make any predictions in this tread as I have not seen all the corps live, but it is very reasonable to place BD in the hunt for the championship amongst others. If this were May I would agree with you.
  11. I knew that this show needed a visual component to bring if fully to life. I have seen run through's and thought I knew what to expect. Watching tonight in full uniform under the lights I was blown away at the difference. The excitement, energy and visual package is amazing! This will be another fantastic year for the Dev's.
  12. I own both of these horns and could not agree more! I think the K-20 is the best but not having a 3rd valve has limitations. Play high enough and that doesn't matter.
  13. Releasing in December. I'm no composer and probably would know how to operate a 10th of the power of this program but I cannot wait to have this world class DCI hornline at my fingertips!
  14. Cali sends their corps to the Midwest and East every year at great expense. Please tell us the local shows you like to attend. Perhaps the California corps will make sure not to "bore" you with their pressence. Don't worry, it wont wont affect your attendance numbers because you have your house in order.
  15. If looking for marching brass, take a look at the System Blue line of King horns. The history and quality of Conn Selmer coupled with the design input of one of drumcorps most successful brass staffs make these well worth your investigation.
  16. I would say that BD's show grew to the very end of the season. I had them on top but that does not take away from Cadets as the shows had different strengths. The point is that the BD aproach allows both staff and members talents continually evolve through the season as 2011 clearly did. I think Cadets show selection for 2012 is fantastic! I also think BD will not settle on a final idea unti late in the spring once they fully know the talent of the members and staff. Two approaches, both successful.
  17. Don't forget "support staff". A well run organization provides all staff and members the tools they need while being well rested, well fed and safely delivered to all destinations. Members and staff with freedom and energy to be creative is powerful indeed.
