  1. Just catching up on this thread: Prompted by the G7 pushing for anyone lower to become irrelevant, the organization responds and lays the foundation for growth (see Inspire Arts & Music in 5 years the budget grows from $800K to $ 4 Million), hires a great COO/Executive Director, he has relationships with people that go way back, staffs from different groups want to work together and decide that Boston is the corps, kids have lot's of reasons to stay or go to different corps - the number one driver is the staff (recent DCI member survey) and here we are.

  8. I agree, the latest hirings are about Inspire Arts & Music and the Boston Crusader future. This is the business side of the activity and we have spent considerable time investing and putting the organization into the position to bring in the best in the activity. Nothing happens overnight and we will continue to stay steadfast in our goal of BuildingAChampion.

  10. Honestly not sure on how the decisions are made, we did not know what are housing location was until when we were in San Antonio.
  11. Inspire Arts & Music rented the stadium from Lucas Oil Stadium directly. We want to give our staff & members the best opportunity to prepare for this week. I believe that BD rents the Colts indoor practice facility for the week in a similar way. It was expensive and required contracts and insurance. The money comes from the way we do all of our business; corporate sponsorships, donations and proceeds from our business lines. In addition, we do underwrite the Streetbeat 5K that will be held on Saturday morning. As for DCI, they arrange for corps housing. This year there is a schedule conflict with the local schools. Several Drum Corps have been put up in hotels by DCI and are using high school fields near by. Others including BAC are being put up in what is effectively a community center. It is small and has limited bathrooms and showers including a small portable shower truck that was brought in. The fields are just that, no real football field or stadium - in all not a great situation.
  12. Not looking for ooey- goey - and open to any feedback. Just PM me.
  13. Just to be clear, the kids are in very strong spirits, they are not down - they are focused on improving their performance level. From my perspective, BAC has had their best touring season ever. From planning to operations, fleet & food, volunteers, housing sites & stadiums, brand new Yamaha equipment, staff & coverage, commitment to school & free days, incredible experiences including performing with the Pops, and they have worked incredibly smart & hard as a team. Organizationally we have never been stronger: Inspire Arts & Music is in sound financial shape including a building, Music festival business, New Great East Music Store (GEMS) retail store partnership with Yamaha (official dealer in Boston), partnership with SAC, local programs with HyPE - Hyde Park Percussion and Hyde Park Brass (free to kids off the street), and the Fleetwood deal announced yesterday. We have strong leadership in Executive Director Chris Holland (in just his first year) and a supportive 45 person BOD. We are not limping home to Boston, we will be roaring into Quincy, Allentown, Buffalo, Erie and Indi. I expect performance levels to keep improving with the cleaning and performance tuning that is underway. We will fight through the end and finish as strong as we can. We are Building A Champion and will continue to look at what we need to do to get there, including listening to our fans, supporters and in some cases the counter view.
  14. Inspire Arts & Music is proud to announce that it has been selected to run Fleetwood Sounds, a leader in providing historical recordings to the drum corps activity. We are grateful for the leadership of board member Michael J. Woodall in acquiring this precious asset. The aquisition will allow Inspire and the Boston Crusaders to run and be the sole beneficiary from the proceeds of operating Fleetwood Sounds. The operation will be moved from Lynn to the Inspire Arts & Music headquarters in Hyde Park, MA. IAM Executive Director/COO Chris Holland says “This should be a good opportunity for brand building, fan engagement, and the organization. Thank you, Michael Woodall, for your work to acquire and safeguard this great piece of drum corps history that also generates revenue to further the programs offered by Inspire.” According to the seller Wayne Terminello “The Fleetwood Drum & Bugle Corps CD series has been digitally re-mastered from original recordings by Fleetwood from 1958-1975. The latest digital recording and mastering technology has been used to provide the best quality recordings possible. I could not be happier to do this deal and know that the Fleetwood collection will be in good hands with an organization that truly cares about the activity.” “I can still remember my brother Rick playing me my first Fleetwood record when I was 8 and would have never imagined purchasing the company at that time. This critical part of Drum corps history will be preserved forever and also gives Inspire and the Boston Crusaders a significant amount of content to use to attract more fans and revenue!” said Woodall. This deal continues on the recent expansion to Inspire’s programs, all of which focus on meeting the organization’s mission while bringing positive revenue streams to increase the financial health of Inspire. This deal will be coordinated and partnered with recent acquired assets including the Great East Music Festivals, the new Great East Music Store (GEMS), the partnership with Yamaha to utilize and sell equipment through GEMS, and the recently formed Inspire Investment Club. All of these initiatives share the same goal of positioning Inspire to provide leadership and life lessons through the arts for thousands of young adults in the New England area and across the country. This is another exciting move for our organization! For more information on Fleetwood Sounds, please visit fleetwoodsounds.com

  20. An appeal to posters on DCP: Can I ask that posters keep in mind that this is a non profit youth activity. The kids pay money to participate, work incredibly hard in the boiling sun, practice for long hours, perform for you and then take over-night bus trips to do it all over again. The organization raises money, contributes money and does everything that they can to provide a great experience for the kids and hopefully the fans. Perhaps these kids on the bus trip to the next stop pull up DCP on their phone and they read your post. I can only imagine how deflating that is. They are not paid professionals, this is not Major league sports in the sense that they are being paid big salaries and under performing for you. They are just really good kids working hard every day to make their show better. You may not like the show, you may disagree with the design, you may not think they are putting out enough for your satisfaction but they are working hard at their craft every day. The constant recycling of the same negative complaints is pretty tough. Perhaps you have made your point by now? The season is almost over and I am asking, on behalf of the kids and their parents, to be please keep all of this is mind. You can always send me a PM and tell me whatever you want. I have been at this with BAC for 38 years and I know first hand that we are not perfect. I know some of you marched or taught the corps, some support the competition and wish to benefit by knocking the kids. If you are an alum, please think back to when you marched and someone either put you down or perhaps lifted you up. If you disagree or want to bash me - please send me a PM and I promise I will take all of your constructive critique and feed it back to the organization. Have a great rest of the season!

  23. Very excited for the first show. No hype here just in a better position than recent years. Better leadership, improved program design, brand new equipment for every section including the upgrade to Yamaha for brass/percussion/pit, updated uniforms for corps proper/new uniforms for the color guard, professionally built props that will be on the field and incorporated into the show, the corps will present the full show tonight, they have been doing run throughs for over a week and should be have a good run and be well received. Fans will be entertained and the show will be performed at a higher level than the start of the last few seasons. The results will be what they are and the corps has plenty to work on just like everyone else. Welcome to the 2016 season!
