  1. Scandal is not new in the Cadets organization. March 1960: The Drum Major, George Petrencak, was murdered by the Assistant Director.
  2. An observation…….. I grew up in Garfield NJ in the ‘40s-‘50s. NJ had at one time or another 230 Drum Corps (Ref: Drum & Bugle Corps of North America). My current State of residence, CA, had 304 Drum Corps. What happened? As Pete Seeger would sing, “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” I believe the main reason is sponsorship for youth development. That includes the VFW, American Legion, CYO, PAL, Boy Scouts/Explorers, and Churches, all non-profit organizations and all removed from the Drum Corps activity. 5. As a youngster from Garfield, NJ I had the pleasure of watching the Bon Bons perform. They took both High Drums and High GE in 1957 and came in second to Holy Name at the American Legion finals. Their bugle quartet won the national title in 1957. They were in existence from 1938-1976. In the Junior finals of the American Legion Championships in Atlantic City, NJ (1957) they scored 90.95 to Holy Name's 91.30. A talented and classy group of young ladies.
  6. My son and daughter are both Drum Corps vets, 5 and 6 years respectively. One afternoon last fall I was waiting in the parking lot to pick up my daughter from work. She is employed at a local restaurant in Riverside, CA. It was a warm SoCal day so I had my windows down and was listening to Vanguard ’05 Finals in the molto fortissimo mode. My daughter left work a short time later and told me that one of the restaurant servers came in to work and told her there was a
