  1. Very sorry to hear. I had a chance to meet him and talk to him over the years.
  2. I do the mx 1s on top 3 and the 2s on bottom 2 drums. I love it
  3. As I was not there this summer, I can not answer for things that may or may not have happened, but I can say that phone calls and work has already started to right the ship and bring the corps back out for the 2013 season. The road is long and hard, but the rewards are more than worth the effort. If anyone is interested in helping the corps moving forward, please contact me at drummer79@aol.com Thank you, and the Scouts appreciate all the support moving forward.
  4. Hey guys, we have to move this camp to the 10th and 11th due to solo and ensemble this weekend. sorry for the time!!
  5. The Racine Scouts will be holding camps in multiple locations around the country this year. More information will go up as soon as locations are secured. The first Wisconsin camp will be March 10th and 11th at: Nativity of The Lord 3672 E. Plankinton Ave. Cudahy, WI For any questions about the Wisconsin camp, please contact: Anthony J. King - Director E-mail king@racinescouts.com Phone # 407-435-6324 John Donovan E-mail drummer79@aol.com Phone # 630-677-4355 Andrea Birbilis- Corps Manager E-mail manager@racinescouts.com Phone # 262-331-3092 Hope you call come out!
  6. I really hope they aren't smiling. In this time when corps are going inactive faster than we have them starting up, we need groups to stick around, not fall apart. I know I personally will be devastated if Forte and Revolution aren't back on the field next year. Regardless of what mistakes have been made by people, we need to support rather than tear down groups when problems arise. Good luck Forte, I hope we see you next year!!! 7. CR has sold most if it's assets to make up for debt. The organization is still active as a bingo, but there is little chance of them returning phone calls let alone to the field.
  8. >DCI used to develop shows mainly mid-summer through finals with some coordination with the Independent Regional Organizations early summer. However, DCM for example, survived not on its regional "status", but on the fact that every corps involved in that region supported their own region as a pre-national tour situation. DCM was able to thrive because headliners like Regiment, Scouts, The Cavaliers, etc. stayed close to home early summer thus supporting DCM. Once those corps began to go national early in the the summer, somewhere around the mid-late nineties, DCM folded quickly. And remember, it was the choice of the Corps' to go national in June "not" the choice of DCI. So, the only way to make this possible "again" is for DCI to force regions on the Corps' (and since DCI is not an independent organization but comprised of the member corps' directors that will not happen) or to have regional organizations like DCNA convince the headliners support their own regions prior to going national; but do not hold your breath. When DCM died... it had nothing to do with the corps. The corps knew it was a constant source of money, unlike a lot of other shows where you have to wait for your money. DCI killed DCM, not the corps. DCI wasn't getting a cut from those shows.

  10. I don't post often, but what the guy was trying to say in a misguided way, is it wasn't a new corps, it's Memphis Sound with a new name. So everyone saying, hey, great to see a corps out in it's first season are also misguided. That being said, great to see the corps still on the field and out there marching. I miss when div2/3 quarters used to take a full 8 am til 10 pm day, not just the afternoon... So i'm glad to see corps survive and not fold. Good luck Forte in your new home in Texas.
  11. I have to disagree with you 100% here. Anyone who actually listened to their performance heard the beauty of the arrangement. Where they suffered *and suffered heavily* was their brass performance. It wasn't a matter of what they were trying to communicate lacking, but rather how poorly they were doing it. I heard them at a couple of rehearsals going in to finals, and honestly, it was brass instructional staff that held them back.
  12. Citations aren't going out at all this summer, and not sure about SCV
  13. Bobby, looks like you are doing great things with them. Keep it up man
  14. I believe they can fully be blamed for not going in that route. I think one of the biggest issues across a vast majority of drum corps that have failed is that they don't treat it like a business. Yes, they are non-for-profit organizations, but anyone that is relying on only their current income streams and fail to explore more opportunities are setting up their organizations to fail. The Spartans were happy with the Bingo, the minimal profit from their bus line, member fees, and donations. A successful hall on rentals alone can earn up to 100,000 a year, and from what I saw of their hall, it was large enough to earn twice that, and if they market themselves out as a reception hall working with a caterer for weddings, they could have made closer to 500,000 a year. (yes, i've researched this) This whole situation is messed up to begin with the internal issues, but I'm not willing to give ANYONE a pass who had opportunities to avoid it. Far too many corps have failed because they rely on far too few income streams. Many more will make the exact same mistakes. Unless something DRASTIC happens from the DCI office, we are going to have fewer and fewer corps.
