  1. YO I don't about you guys... but whenever I roll... especially at faster tempos. My fingers start to come off the stick in the left hand. first the middle finger starts to come off, and then after a while my bottom fingers start to move around randomly and uncontrollably until the ring finger separates from my pinky and once that happens I start slicing because my stick has no fingers to help direct it's path. then, once I start slicing from my fingers coming off uncontrollably my diddle quality also starts to sound like ####. this also happens with pudadas or anything that has diddles close together. I don't know about you guys but this is driving me absolutely insane because I've had this problem for like a year now. The problem with my left hand is basically that it almost has like a time limit to it. with my right hand I could roll forever and I wouldn't have to worry about having to stop because of my fingers coming off. I would only stop if I got tired from my arm pumping or something like that. I'm also pretty sure that my problem is a very simple, basic, fundamental technique that I'm just overlooking. Because the fact is that I have some friends who suck at playing compared to me, but they can roll forever with their left hands and only stop from their arm pumping just like their right hand. So anyway, I am a pretty decent player with anything that doesn't have to do with fast diddles or pudadas, but I really, really, really, need to learn how to do fast rolls and pudadas because the fact is that they both sound kick ### and are one of the most common phrases written in music there is. So someone please tell me what they think I may be doing wrong with my left hand so I can fix this as soon as possible and get a hell of alot better alot quicker!!! Preferably advice from drum corps veterans. I'd really like to march somewhere one day. thanks guys.
  2. Ok I'm talking about threes. like. triple stroke rolls. I don't know how to get better at them, but I really would like to! My teacher can do them so fast and so easily! I wana be able to do it like that. any suggestions on how to get better at THREES????
  3. Well see... this stuff is great but.. you might wanna try to get involved with some elephant creatures along the way if you wanna take scott johnson's job of teaching the blue devils.
  4. hey anyone know how you can get better at rolls quick, kuz I'm not so great at them and I'm getting much better. any suggestions? from vets perhaps??
  5. HOW MUCH DO YOU PRACTICE DOOD?????? (for all rookies and vets alike.)
  6. hey can anyone describe the phantom regiment's technique to me? I'd really like to learn it, but I don't want to learn it if it is too different from the technique that my school uses. I'd prefer answers from phantom regiment veterans, but all are acceptable.
  7. Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music for the flam exercise called Flam Damage"????? I can't find it anywhere. It is a Boston Crusaders exercise by the way.
  8. I would really like to make a DCI drum corps this season but I am not sure how much time I should practice each day to realistically be able to make a drumline at that world class level, such as "Spirit from JSU" for example. I was thinking of moving on to the phantom regiment after marching with Spirit, and I think that I will easily be able to get good enough to march phantom after getting some sick drum corps chops from Spirit. I am a fairly decent snare player at the moment but nowhere near good enough for drum corps yet. How much hours do you think I would have to practice each day to be able to make "Spirit from JSU" drumline?? P.S. I would prefer answers from drum corps veterans if possible.
  9. yo where can I find cool drum corps exercises sheet music?? I want a few particular exercises like the groovy phantom regiment double beat, or flam sandwich by the blue devils or flam damage by the boston crusaders.
  10. I've been playing snare for almost a year now. I've marched two seasons. One in marching band and one in indoor for WGI. I am a pretty decent player and have been thinking about taking it to the next level and trying out for a corps for the 2009 season. I really, really, really want to march Phantom Regiment some day. My snare tech/battery instructor, who marched DCI, told me that nowadays you usually have to work your way up to get into the top corps that everyone dreams about because they look for experience. I know that I could go straight for phantom but I really feel that I am not ready yet until I have marched somewhere first.. Is there a DCI corps that has the same kind of technique that phantom uses but isn't as hard to make as them, so I could start with them and work my way up???
