  1. Amps are bad. KEEP CORPS UNPLUGGED! The rest of your rant was a little insane. I've been watching a lot of corps action on tape from the last 20 or so years. Corp musicality, precision and creativity has improved 10 fold! Without a doubt corps perform better, more interesting shows today than they ever have. Case in point - Cavies. I have never seen a show like they are doing this year. It totally rocks and I'm looking forward to my drum corp virgin friends experiencing it this weekend at Drums Along the Rockies. I'm am glad that the Cadets won't be there this year. I hate that voice amping CRAP! Talk about distracting. The Cadets are ruining their otherwise great shows with it.
  2. But are these folks, including yourself, actually pro-amp? Or do they like it either way? There is a difference. If the amps went away tomorrow, would you be as passionate about losing what you want as we are?
  3. Un...believable. This must be killing you inside. Group HUG
  4. May I ask anyone on this forum - Who actually ENJOYS amplification? Would someone start a poll on this, please. I'm not talking about the pits, either. I'm talking about someone TALKING over the corp WITH amplification. May I also ask MikeD, are you not concerned at all about the expansion of amps to other parts of the corp, namely brass? For the record.
  5. I love Drum Corp too much to stay away. It's in my blood. I guess that's why I care so much. Cavies rule Phantom never dissappoints SCV always has class And where would we be without our beloved Devils to keep everybody movin'! (amped voice over incident forgiven) I'll keep going as long as they keep delivering. Are you going to stay away?
  6. I believe that you are still correct in your thinking and drum corp should remain so. But as a HUGE fan and, most likley, the parent of a future member I want to make sure that Drum Corp remains open to kids of all backgrounds and popular with the fans so that it can continue to be a great experience for the kids. Amping widens the gaps between corp budgets and so far has not been used well. Gaps put pressure on smaller corps who have a hard time staying competitive as it is. The biggest rush you all get is the wild feedback from the stands, am I wrong? You want to make the crowd happy!? Right? Drum Corp is COOL! It's my mission to invite someone new every year when I attend a show just to share that goose bump feeling I get when you guys blow the house down. It's so much more moving when you know it's not amped! I always tell people... "These are just kids! Can you believe that!" Because this topic remains highly controversial, It's important to discuss it. When Drum Corp ceases to be a great experience for the kids - we'll discuss that. Right now, amping is not a great experience for the fans.
  7. You've completely missed the point dbc03. audiodb is saying that if you want those other "things" there are plenty of other places you can go to experience them, they don't need to be a part of drum corp.
  8. World Class Drum Corp as an activity, is unique and always has been which is an innovation in of itself! Adding the element of amplification and now electronic instruments is a fundamental change to the way Drum Corp will be performed for years to come and a lot of people don't like it. Drum Corp, historically, does not perform orchestral music as it was written and intended to be performed, hence it's appeal. I have a deep love and respect for all kinds of music and I appreciate innovation but, after 30 years of personal drum corp experience and 3 years of hearing voice overs in DCI, I'm done. I have yet to develop an appreciation for its place in Drum Corp and fail to see it's value in the overall integrity of the activity.
  9. I agree. One of my favorite SCV performances of all time (1992 Fiddler) used shouts and chanting in several places. But the issue at hand is whether or not that spoken word should be amped and by extension, should amps even be allowed to infultrate other aspects of a corps performance. I'm saying that it should NOT.
  10. Okay then, how about some suggestions. Do you have anything constructive to contribute to our cause? So far, you have made the point that we should give up. That's not helpful. Let's put our heads together and come up with something!
  11. Woodwinds!? Get out! That's funny! That will be the day I stop attending Drum Corp for sure. We better get started on our SPDC soon people.
  12. So when we start our Non-profit - Society for the Preservation of Drum Corps AND we have shirts AND we get money from people of like mind, we give it to the corp of the year who best demonstrates what we agree are "CORP" VALUES, kinda like a grant or a prize! We'll call it the "Prestigious DCVS (Drum Corps Valient Standards) Award" or something like that, I'm open for suggestions! It's money that could otherwise go haphazardly to any corp or to DCI itself! First you get the MONEY! Then you get the POWER! Then you get the RULES CHANGED!
  13. You're talking apples and oranges my friend. Music is music is music to me. Let the good times roll. Talking OVER the music is not music - it's talking. Classical, Jazz, Modern, Pop - I don't care what kind of music you use... I just don't want to hear talking over it in Drum Corp! For now, you have what YOU want! If you want to keep amped voices so bad then you should fight for it. Personally, I would like to see it wiped off the map of Drum Corp! This is my QUEST! You are going to have to come up with a better argument than music to convince me of amped voice's merits. Nice try though
  14. Let's make them care! We are going to start a society for preservation and make shirts! You want one?
