  1. I am admittedly a Blue Stars homer but I can be critical when necessary. The corps continues to improve design-wise year over year. Tonight's show was hands down the best Blue Stars production I have seen. Last year the percussion seemed invisible the first few weeks of the season, tonight they were featured and were very good. Traditionally the guard is messy early, understandable considering the work they do, tonight they looked like they were in mid-July form. The brass improves every year. But the biggest thing for me was the flow of the show and the look on the field. It was superb. The colors were excellent, the transitions all worked, and I never found my attention wandering, which in previous years it has.

This is going to be a very special year for the Blue Stars. They clearly want to move into the top five and I think they have a good shot to do so. No other show on the field tonight has the growth potential that the Blue Stars show does. This is a show written to be added to and to peak on August 12.  I am happy for them.

I like Troopers more this year, they found their vibe and they're going to sell it. It's unique. It's so Troopers. It works. They will maintain top 12 status.

I like Colts less this year. I don't know how to explain it. Someone on here said generic and I think that fits. I do not see them making finals.

    *no Cavaliers*

I feel weird about Phantom's show in a good way. In a "I'm gonna like this a lot in a couple weeks" way. Everything was good, just needs to be sold. Their ability do to do this is TBA. Top 6 show.

I find a show about Absinthe and its effects weird for a youth non profit show so there's that... you'd think you'd have a mary jane show before an absinthe show. How niche! I see where they're going with this. Not my favorite Stars show but I loved every Stars show for the past 5+ years so it's okay if it's not my absinthe of choice. I have no idea where to project them other than where they usually are.

Stars did have a marijuana leaf form in their 1975 drill thanks to Bobby Hoffman.

    Could they do standstill’s tonight?

I  think that is an under utilized option when shows have weather issues and other concerns

If they cancel for air quality reasons this is just as much for the fans as the corps. If it is canceled I am sure everyone hits the road home or to the next show site.

  4. Scores from this show on June 28 last year:

    1) Bluecoats 71.7

    2) Boston 69.45

    3) Cavaliers 67.60

    4)  Phantom Regiment 65.75

    5) Blue Stars 65.15

    6) Crossmen 63.35

I doubt any corps scores a 70 tomorrow night, but it will be interesting to see if Blue Stars and Phantom get a bump. I would not be surprised if we see a grouping of corps in the 67-68 point range. I also will not be surprised if the finishing order matches how they placed in relation to each other at finals last year.

their show this year is nothing like the Blue Stars have ever done!!!!, futuristic, modern, contemporary, adult, forward and driving with unbelievable staging in motion with an avant guard feel and approach.  And those horns.... ohhhhhhhh la la, smoking!!!  This is not your traditional Blue Stars and nothing to be underestimated or taken lightly.  Must be seen live to be appreciated in its fullest!!!!!, on the edge of your seat...

Thanks, Brian. Of course, since we once marched together, I know you are a first-class homer. 🙂 I look forward to seeing them in Indy again. Last summer the percussion caption was not a strength, especially early in the season. I somewhat blamed that on the staging. Has there been a step up in that area?

    Just to be clear...

Generally speaking, I think corps give their best collective competitive efforts every season, with no trend of saving their finest for anniversary years.  And if I was going to contend otherwise, I would not pick the corps whose only years missing DCI finals were in their 25th and 30th anniversary seasons.

Best wishes to Cavaliers for their 75th.  🥳

I agree. I don’t think an anniversary year motivates the corps to put on a better show. It might bring more alumni and fans to Indianapolis and crowd reaction can take a performance up a notch.

1.) There will be 6 or 7 corps competing for 12th. Music City and Spirit will be in the hunt, BK and Crossmen will most definitely be pushing to get back in. Troopers and Colts will not go quiet into Semi Finals and Madison would like a word as well.

2.) Either Blue Stars or Mandarins will make their first top 5 appearance.

3.) Most corps over 90 at finals ever. Maybe even all top 12 corps will score over 90.

Blue Stars have been in the top five three times in their history, but I know what you mean, modern times.

Sounds like a brighter sound over a darker sound.

Gotta respect the arrangers and deciders of instrumentation, but I like a brass choir with lots of different colors.

Meh, they're going to sound amazing though.

19 mellophones and 26 trumpets as well.

Well a signature cocktail for Blue Stars will be easy this year.
