  1. Hi all- Cadets2 contracted into the Everett show back in April. In that contract, we had a parade requirement. Last week after the Clifton show, we had a discussion with George Hopkins about the schedule. After some back and forth, we offered him a release from his contract. He felt that they would be better served with more rehearsal time. Are we happy with that decision? No. Do we have an option to have his organization fined by DCA? Yes. Did we request the fine? No. We decided that we would not request that C2 be fined. They've already lost their largest paycheck of the season with this decision. Why make it worse?

  6. Sitting around 30-32 Looking to fill a few spots to get the corps around 34-35 horns. Looking like (**subject to change**) we have 14 trumpets, 6 Mellos, 7 baritones, and 4 tubas at the moment. As you know one or two members drop from time to time, so we are being a bit proactive. Looking for a couple tubas and baritones, specifically. It's an awesome book - - and a great group to be with! I'm loving every second :)
  7. The Sunrisers had an awesome weekend! Rehearsal and Salute to Israel Parade We've added several new members on Saturday to the corps and have limited brass and guard positions available. So, if you are on the fence - now would be the time to jump on board. Send me a message or e-mail me on dhobart1@gmail.com and I'll connect you with our caption heads for more information. You still have a chance to be part of the 60th anniversary Sunrisers!

  9. Effective April 21st 2014, the Sunrisers are pleased to announce that long term member, Larry Visconti, has accepted the position as the new Corps Director. Larry is no stranger to the Sunrisers having marched non-stop from 1972, playing Snare, Tympani, Bass Drum and soprano. Larry performed with the corps at each of their six DCA World Championship titles. He has held various management roles as Vice President, Percussion Business Manager, Management Consultant, and served as president of the Sunrisers Board of Directors. He has played a major role in the Sun drumline that won 6 drum titles, including 3 years undefeated. He was named to the Sunrisers Hall of Fame in 2001. As the corps continues to build on their recent successes, Larry is in the ideal position to take them to the next level and establish their place of prominence for the next 60 years. Kevin Hassan, has stepped down as director to spend some much deserved time with family. Those of you who have been around DCA know that it was Kevin's desire to help bring the corps back to prominence in open class competition. Please join us in thanking Kevin for his tireless devotion to Sun and wish him the very best. 11. Long Island Sunrisers Announce Campaign – $60 for 60 Make your donation today on the Sunrisers website: www.lisunrisers.com In celebration of our 60th anniversary, the Long Island Sunrisers announce the launch of $60 for 60. $60 for 60 is the first of many steps the corps is taking to revitalize itself into to position for future growth. This is the first campaign of this type that the Sunrisers have undertaken in several years. “The Sunrisers have such a long and successful history; we want to ensure the continued growth and longevity of the this organization for many years to come, ” Assistant Director/Business Manager David Hobart states. The contributions may be structured in a way that donors can either pay in one lump sum or in installments. “We are asking for a donation of $60.00 for the season, however any amount is greatly appreciated,” Hobart continued. “People should not feel limited on how much they can donate”. Funds raised from $60 for 60 will benefit the Corps in a wide variety of ways, including transportation, member housing, instrument upkeep, uniforms, and tuition assistance. The Campaign will offset the cost of the Corps 2014 competitive season. The 2014 program includes works very close tied to the history of the corps, featuring music by Shostakovich, Stravinsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The corps has an ambitious season planned and there is a great level of excitement within the current membership. Donations can be made directly via links on the home page of the Long Island Sunrisers website, www.lisunrisers.com. Checks can be mailed to: Long Island Sunrisers, 110 Bleecker St, #27 C, New York, New York 10012.
