  1. BD has their studio recording up BD Studio Recording
  2. Box 5 productions handles these studio recordings...and they are consistently fantastic. The brass only recordings are a MUST. They should be out very soon, this week or the next. Santa Clara also got the same treatment...so that's something to look forward to as well!
  3. Glassmen's was formerly "Just a Gigolo" and now is (was?) "Madre de la Tierra" for those unfamiliar:
  4. Okay folks, quick question. Sometime in late June or early July in either this thread or one of the several "I don't understand why/what Crown is saying" someone posted a Youtube video of Glass explaining the "it could get some wind for the sailboat" through his talks with a little boy. I have been scouring DCP trying to find this video to no avail. Can anyone help me out??
  5. This post was much funnier when I first saw your name as "CadetsHop"
  6. Tried it with the roof open with Glassmen in 2010 on a rehearsal day. Acheson and co. were there. It was about 9 or 10am on a normal June/July day in Indy (about 80 degrees). Played a full run of the show + rehearsal time. No fundamental change in sound, really...at least nothing too different from the additions and tweaks they've made to adapt the acoustics in recent years. The stadium also heated up significantly and with no breeze going it got pretty hot. Definitely wouldn't be comfortable for anyone in the audience. Not saying that you're wrong about it being a selling point, because it was, but not really worth it for DCI or the audience...especially if a rainstorm sprouts up out of nowhere or if it is 90+ (as it usually is in Indy during finals week).

  8. Awesome, Troop! I really, really, really hope scores keep changing like this all season. Very exciting.
  9. Not sure if it's been mentioned yet on here, but I just found out from some of the Scouts members' Tumblrs I follow that "Every guard member in the Scouts received dog tags as part of their uniform. Each tag has the name of a Navy SEAL who gave their life to protect this country." Another member mentioned that he was wearing the tags of a Navy SEAL who died a few weeks into the Scouts moveins and who wasn't much older than him. Just...wow.
  10. It has been getting better from most corps. String patches will never sound good, though.
  11. DCP: Bringing you some thought-provoking discussions on the state of the activity, show design, historic perspective, insight into every single corps and their background...all buried among threads complaining about every fathomable aspect of the activity.
  12. I'll be there...with Cincinnati Tradition. Looking forward to seeing all the great corps after we go on. NOT looking forward to 93 degree, humid weather...too many memories from my DCI days! haha
  13. I have to disagree regarding the Cadets as being too complex. I think there are complex layers, intentionally so, but the Side X Side design is pretty clear throughout. The props are great (and generally unobtrusive as far as Cadet props go) and really emphasize the overall concept along with providing stark visual cues for each movement. On one side of the props you'll have angular drill, on the other you'll have wavy drill. Or brass vs. percussion. Or large ensemble playing Medea and small ensemble playing Adagio for Strings (which is a great moment). Great show designs have overt references to the show concept as well as that added layer of depth in brass, guard, and percussion design. From what I've seen so far I'd say the Cadets have both of these layers consistently throughout the show. That is, to me, a championship-caliber design. A lot of the mid to late 2000s Cadets shows had hit moments and miss moments...but this design hearkens back to mid-90s and early 2000s Cadets. Oh yeah...and the hornline can PLAY!
  14. Really looking forward to this show. Wound up with suite tickets very close to the 50 and near the top. Got to see a lot of these corps last night at the Lexington show, but I was off to the side quite a bit and down low (and running around in uniform - figuratively). Should be a great night of drum corps!
  15. Oh lord. That's the SCV Colorguard uniform, not the corps proper. Don't freak, people. Here's the corps proper. Outside (blue tops) are presumably drum majors. Sop and snare are corps uniforms. Others are CG uniforms. Have been told the corps (red) is wearing black pants and it's just hard to tell with the stadium lighting. I really, really like this look. EDIT: In case the image isn't popping up, go to this link.
  16. I've often wondered the same thing myself. When it's 105 out and you're on turf, things can get nasty quick. I distinctly remember getting an AC break around lunchtime in Kansas in 2010. Helped a lot, but then we were out performing at 6-7pm when it was still ~100 out in uniforms. Yeesh. Anyway...good luck tonight Crown!
  17. Am I right in remembering that Blue Stars still has a new uniform to unveil? If so I am anxiously awaiting that announcement.
  18. I came here to post something very much like this. I'm thinking this section isn't the same by August 10th.
  19. This is just about everything I had imagined and hoped it would be. A great take on Rite of Spring with signature BD material. This is going to be a great season. The Crown/BD matchup out West should be a thing of legend.
  20. What an incredible opener. I rarely get goosebumps from recordings (doubly so preseason recordings)...but GOOSEBUMP CITY!! Man I can't wait to hear how this turns out by Finals...
  21. I liked it. Lots of good stuff for the preseason. Really enjoyed the snippet of Adagio during Medea - kind of hoping they will use more of it at some point (though no high expectations knowing how the Cadets always end their shows!!)
  22. (posted in the new uniform thread) Here's a look at the Regiment snareline with the new uni. Higher resolution too.
  23. Here's a look at the Regiment Snareline in the new uni sans helmet.
