  2. HI I teach percussion at a high school in Wayne, Michigan (Wayne Memorial High School) 48184. The director is currently looking for a guard instructor that can be available for possibly summer rehearsals, but more importantly band camp and the fall season. The possibility of writing/ re-writing the guard work is also there. Experience in College, DCI and/or WGI is preferred. Please respond here or send me a private message if you are interested or know someone who is, and I can get you in contact with the director. Thank you, Adam
  3. Mine are in as well I believe I was one of the first two to vote Woot! go me!
  4. You got me there I did not know 87 cadets scored perfect in a caption, with that point shown, your right a corps could score 100. I agree that there are politics involved in every organization, however I do not think it is to a point where they make it that the top corps are always the top corps. I think it is a system that is as fair and unbiased as can be. Sure there are probably a few judges, and I stress few, that have weighted there scores a little to a corps they were partial too, but then again that's one reason we have more than one judge to cut down on the possiblility of biased scoring. so in answer "does politics affect judging" Not enough to argue that's why phantom, SCV, Cadets, Cavies, and the rest are always at the top. They are there because they are good bottom line.
  5. I don't buy into the whole slotting thing for reasons I stated, but in response to your post why 100 is not attainable. Humans are not perfect, nor can we no matter how hard we try make something perfect. As scores reach the higher end it's because less and less problems are found. that's why scoring doesn't have a constant slope. It generally raises quickly at the beginning at rates of in some cases a point a night and then those last few shows raises tenths of points. Not one member on a corps can say that they have had aperfect show, and all it takes is one person to make one mistake, no matter how small of a mistake it is, to keep the perfect score out of reach. I think the great thing about the activity is the fact it's not attainable no matter how long it was performed. Something can always be made better. sure a jusge can tell you what it will take to score an 80 score a 90 score a 95. and for all corps the criteria will be the same. "The drill needs to be this good, playing this good etc." However 100 is perfect and a judge will look at it and say yeah it's the best I ahve seen tonight it brought me to my feet I could hardly believe my eyes but I did see this slip up here it wasnt perfect. As far as groups that have been screwed over for finals I ahve a great example of why score alone doesn't determine it and the few people who posted that there drums and marching were bad even though the rest was good nailed it right on the money. This is related to wgi and not dci but I think it still shows and proves my point. A group scores just tenths of a point out of finals and 12 were taken. They had a decent show some thought they deserved to make it. The placed 3rd in marching all around. Unfortunately playing and ge were not up to snuff. they placed 9th in GE and 15 in playing. just playing alone which was pretty tight acrossed the board kept them out. My point is if your group doesnt have all the aspects they can't always be put above another group
  6. One quick note: Once someone posted the major jumps from madison scouts and boston the story went from all 12 finalists being the same to the top 6 being the same. And there is still no solid evidence suggesting a corps has been screwed becuase they are considered to not be as good as the top 6. In fact someone mentioned that the blue coats do not have a shot, well I beg to differ, I think they have a solid chance at getting top 6. whether or not that is true is yet to be seen. We don't know if Blue Devils, Phantom, Cavies, or Cadets will win it all. I do agree it is safe to say that one of those 4 will take first place. I don't disagree with the fact that the 12 corps listed will probably be the 12 at finals either. I can see that the 6 corps that are usually at the top every year are of a higher calibur. You can look at it two ways, one becuase those corps are at the top end of the circuit they draw in a lot more talent to auditions, a larger talent pool to choose from when making those final cuts. Two you can claim that it's becuase they are expected to be there. I don't dismiss the fact that judging may be some what biased, but to say that a corps who opens in the 50's can't make a jump to be competitive at finals is ludicrus. For one bad show's happen. I have seen a lot stranger things than a drum corps decide that they are going to pull there stuff together and be a contender and there be a 10 point spread within a few days. To some it all up, we might know which twelve will probably make it, but the only thing we can say about which place each one will take is that this group of 6 has a shot at first and this group of 6 has a shot at 7th and this group in the middle have a shot at being an upset. Everyone who claims the judging system does not award corps that do well and deserve a spot, are not looking into the facts hard enough.
  7. I don't think we should be able to see captions until our caption selections are final. half the fun is deciding which captions will win, if I can just look at all the captions and pick based on other people's scores, it is no fun.
  8. hey my fantasy corps are not listed am I missing something I have picked captions and tour schedules already. Motor City DBC div 1 and Motor City Cadets DBC div 2 and if I could trouble you for a quick name change, that would be awesome....please.... just for my div 1 could you change the name to Motor City Marauders Drum and Bugle Corps? thanks!
  9. I'm still confused on how/ where I pick my captions I do not see a link on the menu bar on the main page, and where and how do I pick my schedule
