Thanks for the review. I really like the direction the Carolina Crown has taken over the last few years. Their recent shows the last few years seem much more audience accessible than earlier editions.

Are the Academy, Spirit, and the Mandarins out as far as a shot in the top 12 according to those on here ? Just asking

I'm trying to think of the last time an East Coast Corps beat The Cadets. I 'm thinking it probably was the Crossmen ....maybe a decade or so ago ?...... maybe the late 90's or so ? East Coast Corps prior to the last decade used to go back and forth sharing the top spot..... among lots of different corps and at different stages. Now there are just 3 DCI World Class Division Corps left. The Cadets, and the Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown on the Atlantic eastern seaboard . And I don't see either the Crusaders or Crown beating The Cadets this year to change that and spice things up a bit competitively. It's just hard to crack the top 3 or 4 spots consistently these days. For ANY but the usual Corps we see at the top except when they have perhaps one rebuilding year every decade or so.

I just got a cell phone call from a friend out in Stillwater. He said he heard tonite that DCI is economizing and has decided tonite to send the scores via Pony Express to DCI HQ. and that they expect to have them posted by 2pm tomorrow once they dig them out of the saddlebags. So like others I'm calling it a night.

Bluecoats Percussion helped them stay ahead of Boston. Seems Bluecoats percussion line is pretty good off these 2 nights scores. Lots of good vibes here in the early season on BAC from a lot of reviewers who've seen them.

Any Corps that finishes in the top 4- 9 every year like the Bluecoats have the last half dozen years is more " consistent " than what I'd call " stagnant ". Same with the Boston Crusaders. There are lots of Corps looking over these 2 Corps shoulders that would love to be as consistent as both of them have been the last decade.

Either that, or Boston is better than some expected at this stage.

We can only speculate now on who has a good guard and who doesn't. And then probably be proven completely wrong when the judges come out and score them when they do. haha!

When I think of " esoteric or weird music playing" Corps ( your words ), one of the LAST Corps that comes to mind for me are....... the Blue Devils. In fairness to BD, I'll acknowledge now that my critical post on them above was based on a video, not a live performance, and it really is the first week. So in hindsight, I 'll try and reserve judgment on them until later when I get a chance to see them live, and they get the neccesary time to add stuff that no doubt they will. I'm open minded to changing this season's impressions of them. BD has earned that from me for the many years that they have thrilled me with their performances.
