  1. Also the riflers doing the suicide toss over the drum majors head. That took lots of practice & guts to stand under it without cringing as they threw it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I remember doing the sunburst & Mr. Jones making us practice it & making it perfect it was the trademark drill & had to be great. It was used every year in some form or another He was a great drill instructor. The sunburst lasted the lifetime of the Troopers. Still using it modern times.
  3. thanks thats what i actually remember i have been away from dcpi for a few years & I was trying to remember what places I took with the 3 corps. I thought the T Boltz were division 2 & the thunder & lightning were div 3 thanks for the clarification. Thanks Again

  10. That's weard The Troopers John was from my home town in southeastern colorado we were best friends & joined Troopers together in 1980 & after I had one year in Argonne Rebels(1979) I convinced him to join. We were in band & graduated from same class, He marched in n1980,81,82.He played Timpani,Snare & Quints. He now lives in another part of the state don't Know where though.
  11. We had 1957 Trailways & it seamed like every year at least one or two always broke down. Pushing & doubling up in the aisles on the other buses, NOW THAT IS THE WAY TO TRAVEL. One timeI remember we had a show I believe in ohio & we had a break down & we were late & doubled up & changing on the doubled up buses HOW FUN. I believe we had a penalty for being late & mr. Jones had aranged for the Guardsmen to go on in front of us so we could still make the show. man what a night nothing went right show was a mess JUST BADDDD
  12. I would like to see what all you had for Troopers this brings back some very fine memories. Had a great time in Troopers Mr. Jones was a great man. Thank you very much
  13. Hello kiara yes that's me & this is 1982 John Mccoy marched quints in 82, he didn't march in 1983.
  14. I agree ,my boys didn't either, But they did have their own thing as they both were & are part of the Koshare Indian Dancers of La Junta ,Co. They tour the United States & other countries similar to drum corps, so THAT IS their drum corp. I'm proud of them as both are Chiefs in the organization & there is still hope for my daughter as she is only 9 & has started to show alittle intrest in drum corps in general. I hope she does ,but whatever she does will be ok by me.
  15. Had several great moments, but two stand out the most. The first is Birmingham 1979 as a member of the Argonne Rebels watching finals from the stands & watching Troopers perform along with all the other great corps & telling my friends that I would march with them (Troopers) someday & did the very next year. The second & probably the most memorible was Finals In Montreal 1981, the entire atmosphere was beyond my wildest dreams the competition, retreat & being part of something tremendous. Drum corps as a whole will always bring fond memories to me.
  16. My best bud & seatmate Jim Waldorf, Bye old friend, & The man responsible for many life lessons & one of the greatest if not the greatest director in history of drum corp & one of DCI's founding fathers MR. JIM JONES. He is one of the reasons drum corp is so strong today, men like him is what drum corp is all about. Also MRS. JONES my corp mom was there whenever I needed something for uniforms or help with things that MR. Jones was to busy for. Thanks to you both you were an inspiration to all who knew you. You will all be missed very much!!!!
  17. Rocky Mountain Thunder just missed finals 13th place for new corp. Not bad, still pretty good season maybe next year we'll make finals. Had fun and enjoyed all the corps competing with us. Have to congradulate my Daughter in her director debut with the Division 2 Pink Angels 8th Place 90.633 not bad. Thanx to all!!!! FROM ROCKY MOUNTAIN THUNDER TO ALL IN THE TOP 12,GOOD LUCK & SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.
  18. Hope the Troopers do well they deserve a semi finals show, They are improving hope it's enough. GO TROOP
  19. Thanks I haven't seen this since the 80's, The drill was always tough Mr. Jones always had the pecussion doing crazy stuff & putting us in the middle so to speak. Wabash canon ball was a cool drum solo we always had pretty good bass rifts in the solo's, I also liked Turkey in the Straw from 1980 & 81 The bass drum solo aound the front, tipping the hat & stoppping for breif moment & finishing with the 3 beats & then the spittoon with the snares spitting in the spittoon & the bass drum hitting a cymbal to sound like the spittoon, Quite corny but fun.
  20. I'm in. I marched big bass for Troopers in 1981-83, I'll do it if I can have plenty of VICODIN for pain. Still feelin it from the 80's.
  21. I marched the big Timpani in Argonne in 79' They did have a vibe player & Marimba. I also playedbig bass for Troopers, My back is still giving me troubles today, OOOUUUCCCHHH!!! But I loved it & wouldn't change those days for anything
  22. Do you have any Troopers drum line 1981-83. I marched bass #5 The big boy it's been a long time since I've seen these corps let alone Troopers thanx for sharing
