  1. I just remembered another one...though this nickname was said among us guys and not to the female member... Mount Fuji
  2. As I mentioned previously...whopper...there were others but it's late now and I need to think about it...
  3. I marched with a contra player whose name was Whopper...I'm sure that was not his name either...LOL
  4. 1989 was the year before I marched with my short career of just two seasons in DCI...the more I think about it...What gets me more enamored than anything is the sheer talent level of the corps members these days versus my distant past...I may have been a good horn player...but I wonder if I was auditioning today with my level of talent that I had "then"...whether I'd actually get "cut". The simultaneous demand of the players today just seems to be off the charts...not trying to take anything away from that time period BITD...it wasn't "easy" then either...I guess it's best to say just different...and leave it at that...
  5. Beyond "you" who might that be? I find your statement here hardly credible at all...Perhaps you need to stop burying your head in the sand...just saying...
  6. I seem to recall this show not being liked until end of the season that year...surprisingly this used to be one of the shows I'd show newbies to drum corps...this was definitely one of my personal favorites...it's tough to say best SCV ever IMO...seems more like it would be better said as "best of it's time and/or era"...
  7. Honestly there really hasn't been any awe inspiring drill these last few years...I've even spoken with a few drill writers about this as well as that's not really how they are writing shows these days...
  8. There has got to be more to this story as to WHY DCI has revoked Arsenal's application. I've read the director's reddit post. That thing is tame af. Where did he go wrong? DCI...LATELY...you've turned into an organization that I really can't get behind and I really don't like feeling that way about drum corps either...
  9. I think there is a fine line between risk and reward for World Class corps and that is more the reason for not being the trend setters IMO. DCI World Class I'd argue is even more competitive these days and the slightest slip in design can cause a corps to slip several placements. Yet, if a new concept is proven or tested to be effective then it is implemented. A huge tarp across the field I'd imagine would be a HUGE risk item that may or may not pay off. Would it be worth a loss in competitive placement for being the first to try it? Then again it could garner an extra reward, but in the end how much of that is worth the risk/chance?
  10. I'll pick Bluecoats 2020...More likely though...props will get even MORE vertical...
  11. For those that know the new Atlanta stadium. do you have section/seat recommendations? My preference is high enough for drill read. Inside forty obviously and usually comfortable sitting next to a box judging panel...Although I'm sure they will have their own box...
  12. Perhaps some more LOVE for the front ensemble now (pit)...
  13. I am going to the Atlanta show. This will be a first time for me and the first time with an entire field lineup in probably 25 years.
  14. Any corps that is below top 6 from this past season will be a tough nut to crack. Any corps in top 6 sans Boston (competitive inertia?) have a "chance" to WIN with the odds on favorite going to VANguard IMO...
  15. I'm sad to see this. I am though in complete agreement with the decision. I wonder though if DCI would ever make a similar decision to one of the drum corps powerhouses if it is ever warranted. I'm sure many can agree that Pioneer has been the red-headed step child of DCI for decades now anyway... R.I.P. PIONEER
  16. Perhaps...A little off-topic. When did DCI create the DCI "news network"? I've never heard that characterization before.
  17. This is the same photo as last season....with the change of 2019...not much of a clue
  18. I do not agree with this idea. A one year hiatus for Cadets would be a financial disaster for the organization. You don't take a year off with a such a storied history as The Cadets. There is more to it than just the RAW dollars and cents savings. Even after the fire for BAC in 1973(?) and the embezzlement of corps funds in 1983(?) Boston did not take a year off. Even when the corps was financially insolvent, they went out on the field under the banner of "Boston" until they paid off the debt to reclaim the Boston Crusaders brand. I am afraid if they had taken "a one year hiatus" they wouldn't be here today. Not fielding a corps has serious repercussions on all levels IMO. I can't recall too many corps that have survived after taking a year or more off.
  19. I came across a video awhile back of Alison Balsom playing a p-trumpet....the whole thing is plastic...she got a really great sound from it! Talk about about light weight!

  21. This one is probably going to be fought in courts for quite a few years I'd imagine...guess it will depend who runs out of money for lawyers first...this must be a huge drain on YEA's resources...of course GH has criminal problems now as well...
