  2. Age is not really too much a factor unless you are thinking of joining perhaps the top 7 or so WC corps in DCI. I could probably guide you with better advice if I knew a few more details. Your location, whether finances are an issue, how do you parents feel about it, are you auditioning for brass, percussion, or guard, and which corps is your dream corps. I'll assume that your huge goal is to be a part of one of the elite corps. If that is the case, then you are going to want to gain and build experience. That said I can give you a few basic tips. I would first focus on gaining experience with a local corps as that would be most economical and probably a little easier in terms of anxiety for your parents. I would concentrate on either the lower 1/3 of World-class, an open-class corps, or a DCA corps. Keep in mind that percussion is MUCH more competitive than brass as a general rule. If you are a brass player, you will excel your greatest through private lessons. I would start now to supplement your music education with that. Let the teacher know your goals, so they can tailor a program for you. Basic fundamentals and a daily regimented routine is important. If you are a bit braver. Audition for your dream corps and get the valuable feedback from them on where you need to concentrate on improving certain skills. You may even surprise yourself and do better than you think. We are sometimes bigger critics of ourselves than we really need to be in this regard. Yes, your talent level is important. I can tell you that a bigger factor in determining your eligibility is your attitude, your willingness to listen, and to always strive to improve yourself. One caveat about auditions...you can have a bad experience at a camp and think that all corps are like that and then get discouraged from trying for other corps. Don't fall into this trap, you might surprise yourself and find that you enjoy the vibe of a particular corps that you never even considered. I've even known folks that marched with the winning corps and didn't like the vibe for whatever reason and joined other lower placing corps and were very happy. Good luck and happy hunting..
  3. The above is just added noise IMO...CD's go the way of the 8-track and the 78 rpm record...
  4. I can say nothing but great things about several of those visual techs...Crown is in great hands...I wish them and Crown the very best this coming season and beyond...
  5. You are entitled to your opinion. So with your logic that means in 2017 the Santa Clara Vanguard who WON Best Color Guard was ALSO a HOLLOW WIN because Blue Devils won that caption on FINALS night...19.6/19.3 respectively...I haven't even looked at other years...averaging has occurred since 2001...
  6. I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing with your position. Just a few questions and comments... How long has averaging caption awards taken place? I heard for at least 10 years, but have no confirmation of that. Why did the corps directors vote to average caption awards? I ask only because it seems sometimes rules are put in place because something happened a season or two before that precipitated that change.
  7. Battalion has one of the most iconic uniforms now...
  8. I'm taking about the creative process...does not matter what something developed into...so unless you were a fly on the wall during that process ...then believe what you want I guess...in the end does it really matter?...they created two years of great shows....I could care less if the inspiration came out of a cracker jack box....lol
  9. I am not speculating...this came right from the designers mouths...
  10. I may be wrong but I heard the inspiration for Wicked Games came from MT...in almost exactly the same way you just described in your post...
  11. This is true. It was the piece "Amazing Grace" that kicked off BAC's show last season...that piece was the thread that tied the whole show together...
  12. Ryan George was traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana from Austin-Berstrom International Airport. September 4 at 12:33 PM · Austin, TX · ••|•|••• #BAC2019
  13. Please don't hold me to this...BUT I seem to recall in 2014 during the TV/movie broadcast the Bluecoats artistic director stating that's how the show was designed. The reason I recall is it was in stark contrast to Boston doing the complete opposite. Perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly. edit: I just read above posts. Looks like I was remembering correctly.
  14. I'd love to see a 4-peat. One down only 3 to go... Too early? ...haha clarifying: titles/not captions
  15. No. It's all about relationship building. For those that may be poo-pooing the new artistic director before he even gets started, I'm sure that with his decades of experience and contacts he's built some very long and lasting relationships. Give the Scouts a chance to turn themselves around.
  16. It is my understanding that SOME corps start with the music first...but I haven't been involved in the creative process..so I'm just going by things I've heard before...
  17. I'm not speaking about anyone specific. I don't recall actual staffers being so touchy about this thread in the recent past. Have we crossed a new threshold?
  18. I will never forgot that tragic day like so many others. I lost people I knew that day as well who had families they left behind. It was one of the saddest days of my life. I also personally had specific plans to be in Battery Park that morning to meet a good friend of mine, but for some reason I overslept and missed my train. I was actually mad at myself for missing the train until I turned on the TV and witnessed this horrible tragedy unfold in front of my eyes. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
  19. All the sensitivity training in the world is not going to solve this problem. The corps director needs to resign and then the healing process can begin. PERIOD.
  20. It looks like the worse may be behind the cadets...they seemed to have weathered the storm...their future looks brighter than a few months ago...here's hoping their path continues to be an upward trajectory for 2019 and beyond...
  21. I'm very surprised you are having a hard time getting this done. Several years ago I had mine converted from 1990. I did not have a problem, but this might of been before all the current copyright hoopla. I don't remember what company I used, but let me check my records. It is worth a shot.
  22. You can't tell me with a STRAIGHT FACE...That there is not one person that watched LIVE Madison Scouts '95 OR '99 and was NOT blown away. Honestly, a lot of the stuff performed these days is a real snooze fest...not everything...but A LOT...It is what it is though...BUT I can always find something I like in just about any show... Perhaps entertained was not the word...a show that gets me to jump out of my seat...very few corps have done that to me in recent memory sans The Cadets and SCV....but the MS actually were one that for many years brought that RAW EMOTION to the table...
