  1. I acknowledge that the likelihood of corps being allowed to spend the night at a facility is remote. This is a factor that will need to be considered. This will cause corps to look for rehearsal facilities that may be out of the ordinary, (parks, parking lots, etc). The fact that many corps members are from out of state presents a problem of another sort, how do we house them before tour and in between shows? As I continue to look at the issues corps will face, the more I believe that, without a cure, the activity may cease to exist all together. So, what's the point of this exercise? The activity needs to come up with a sustainable, workable plan that will allow the activity to continue. Another thing to consider is, will there be any stadiums permitting competitions? If social distancing will still be enforce, how will this work? Was planning on attending an NFL game this year but was advised 'off the record' that only season ticket holders will be permitted in the stadium.
  2. I've been around. Just waiting for the right topic. Apparently, this WASN'T it!
  3. Okay folks. You're in charge of designing the 'new' touring model with the objective to save as much money as possible. I don't want to make it overly complicated so the things to consider include the following: Establishing a new maximum corps limit. Establish a geographic touring model that would not require the corps to spend the night at a facility (can either go back to home base or drive to next site). Review the current corps model with an eye on saving money. Ready? GO!
  4. My favorite show during the early years (74 - 75). Just so much fun seeing corps every other block or so. Then, DCI had to ruin it all!
  5. WOW! Didn't realize they had done anything after 1984ish!
  6. Thanks everyone. What I am hoping to incorporate is, for example, sub-caption from say the three previous performances and then have the model attempt to predict the next score for each caption.
  7. I'm looking for software for a research project where I can enter data (sub-caption scores) over a period of time to determine if final scores & predictive outcomes are even close. While I understand there are many variables that play into a units performance on any given nigh, since I have nothing to do for two weeks, I figured I might as well try something! Any help would be appreciated.
  8. While touring may be out of the question, this does give the corps the opportunity to do local shows where the could bus out and back. Just a thought!
  9. In your opinion! Nothing I said was in support of the post no matter how you try to spin it. I was pointing out what I believe is the hypocrisy of those that were offended by it but failed to note that such blatant sexualization of members has been ongoing for some time.
  10. I never said I supported the request and I'm not okay with it, but to think that it hasn't been happening is wishful thinking. BD - Felliniesque comes to mind.
  11. The only thing funnier is, you people get all bent out of shape when the reality is, this has been happening for quite a few years now! Open your eyes!
  12. It would be nicer if anything that failed to pass could not be brought up again for 5 years!
  13. OMG! I have wanted them to do Alpine Symphony for, I don't know, two decades! Unfortunately, it would seem too much like what Blue Stars did last year.
  14. Dave: I have a few Regiment VHS that I would LOVE to convert to DVD. How are you able to assist? I'll gather the list & let you know what they are. JD
  15. Obviously I don't. In researching the IRS 990 forms available, their level of income has been fairly consistent. I just don't want them sitting in the stands Saturday night. MERRY CHRISTMAS! out!
  16. DB: Unless the individuals on staff have access to, lets just say, discounted resources, I'm not sure how they would magically now have the funds ensure adequate prop standards.
  17. If you look at the props put out by the Regiment last year, they were, at best, unsophisticated, at worst, fairly useless. Do I like that corps need two semi's to carry props? NO! However, that appears to be the current trend successfully being used by the top corps.
  18. The lack of money, IMO, definitely equates to placement, and I am not proposing slotting nor do I expect them to 'win' in 2020. I would love for them to be a threat for a top 3 finish, but for that to happen, many things would have to go right, including someone in the current crop of top corps to stumble. I just don't see that happening.
  19. How does my statement equate to not supporting the corps? I prefer to call it cautious optimism. The problem is, as I had pointed out in another thread, finances. Unless there has been a dramatic increase in funding to support the current trend in the activity, it is possible (probably likely) they will remain a lower tier corps. If you look at the corps above them the last few years, it is obvious a good amount of funds was spent on (unfortunately) props. If the corps is going to try and outdo the Scouts last year (IMO), that would not be a good idea. And don't go down the 'how much have you committed to the corps' road. The funds we're talking about are far greater than that derived from alumni support. I will always support them no matter what. I just got a little tired of some myopic people claiming 'this show / brass line is better than (enter year here). Here's all you need to know about the last five years (7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th). Do I think the trend will continue? No. But a lot has to go right for a long period of time to bring them back into competing for a title.
  20. Look, I don't want to pee on anyone's parade but, people were saying that about last years show too!
  21. Well, considering that we don't need as many seats along the front side as in the past, it would seem any decent small to mid-size college would do just fine.
