  1. For my money, all 2 cents, 90! It just had an emotional edge to it that, in my opinion, they never got again. Rocketman - 90 was a good year. ampssuck
  2. I guess the only ones invited to the "game", at least at that time, were BD, SCV, & Cadets? What "Game" are you talking about? You know, you're right, I think they should have won in 1978! Rocketman - I'm taking my ball and going home! Game over! ampssuck
  3. I don't think I could disagree more. I'd say thier finals performance was thier worst of the week whereas, finals certainly was PR's best. Rocketman - ?????? ampssuck
  4. And you know this because................................. Rocketman - I was there, were you? ampssuck
  5. Sam I agree. The problem is, SCV's brass score shouldn't even have been in the same ball park as PR, let alone a tenth difference. Should at least have been a half point spread. Guess what happens then? SCV loses by .10? Wasn't going to happen. Rocketman - the Conspiracy Lives! ampssuck
  6. I confess! In 1975, the drum major of our corps was overaged, he was also my brother. Can we please have all of our 1975 season deleted from the record books. Oh wait, we aren't IN any record books. Rocketman - Too #### Old ampssuck
  7. My bad! Absolutely Oakland Crusaders. Awesome show! Rocketman - appologizes profusely ampssuck
  8. Perhaps someone should contact this seller to ask where he got this information from? Obviously, he knows something we have all speculated on for 30 years now! Rocketman - ??? ampssuck
  9. ROTFL! Rocketman - You don't know where that hands been! ampssuck
  10. We didn't have section leaders in any of the years I marched Regiment. We had section primadonnas however! Rocketman - That will get me in trouble! ampssuck
  11. LancerFi: 1975 was indeed a strong year. The top 5, 6 if you count Muchachos, were all excellent. The bottom six weren't too bad either! Rocketman - it was a very good year! ampssuck
  12. Legend: Well, ya think something like that could happen today? A little regional bias perhaps? Just a thought! Rocketman - in 4th place, no wait, 1st place. ampssuck
  13. Before you all jump down my throat, please note the question mark (?). I ran across this article written by Steve Fain in the September '75 Drum Corps World, specifically addressing their show at the World Open on August 9th, a mere week before finals. "An 86.55 tonight put the Hawthorne Muchachos in fourth place. Hawthorne has a big show this year and are very popular on the east coast. Their horns are the heart of their show, and indeed are one of the finest horn sections in the country. Unfortunately, their drill just doesn't have a national championship written on it, and so far they are receiving inflated M&M GE scores for it. Tonight they received a 9.3 in M&M GE. In my opinion their drill has nowhere the M&M GE of the Blue Devils, Lancers, or Vanguard, who received9.5, 9.6, and 9.7 respectively, but should have been closer to the Kilt's and Phantom Regiment's 8.8 and 8.9. The same thing is also happening for the Muchachos in music analysis. While their horns' intonation is very fine, I don't believe their show is as difficult as the Vanguard, nor are they as musical as either Vanguard or Blue Devils-their finesse is too much volume too often. They were awarded a 9.3 tonight in MA while the Vanguard received a 9.0. The Kilts were awarded an 8.7 in MA with a horn show that except for volume compares similarly with the Muchachos. This is not to detract from their show, however, for I enjoyed it very much. Of particular note is their very fine soprano soloist and an excellent music arrangement of Resphigi's Pines of Rome." It appears not everyone was as taken with the Muchachos as one might think. Remember, this was not my opinion. Your thoughts? Rocketman - 1975 was a very good year ampssuck
  14. WHAT? Is this another one of those, "this is what we were told" things? Now, I admit I'm old, but I don't remember this being an issue. Besides, it's not as if we did warm up in the front stands. Rocketman - "I have no recollection of that event sir" ampssuck
  15. I wouldn't read too much into that stat. No dissing Madison here but, after 73-74 there wasn't much to say about Argonne thus, from the standpoint of a known entity, Madison should be in the lead. Heck! I blew off the Regiment lines for Argonne! Rocketman - Rgone is gone ampssuck
  16. Deftguy: I am speachless! I live in BD/SCV land, albiet Southern BD/SCV land. Tell me that's not hard! We tried to get the guard to stop "bobble heading", it wouldn't work. Besides, no brass or percussion player with half a brain would ever attempt to advise a guard member on anything. You might as well self castrate yourself. I imagine that could be true for 2-7 as well. How bout it LancerFi? Anyone out side the guard have the stones to comment on the guard? Rocketman - 2nd stinks even now! ampssuck
  17. Jimisback: You just quoated yourself. I've never seen that before. BRAVO! Rocketman - allrighty ampssuck
  18. LancerFi: I am now officially confused! Originally I was discussing 79, then referred to 76. 80 wasn't in the picture cause, I was out by then. Though many have concluded that to win you MUST take GE. Didn't hold that year as 27 took it by a tenth over BD! Rocketman - ??????????? ampssuck
  19. Yes! I thank you for the "wake up" call. I believe we were pretty complacent up until that point in time. Much appreciated. Rocketman - the Anti Dis ampssuck
  20. Argonne was a brass line ahead of its time! Had the drumline been of equal quality, no one would have beaten them! Rocketman - R Gone! All Gone ampssuck
  21. This was really not so much about Blue Devils as it was the judging community and/or DCI administration. No question, Blue Devils had a great year. My issue, I don't believe the General Effect score received that night was appropriate for the show performed. There is no logical sense to any of the scores received in either of the GE sub-captions. Even in '76 when BD clearly was the best corps out there, the GE spread between 1st and 2nd was only .6. Up until 1979, the largest spread in GE was 1.1 in 1973 and the Troopers GE score was 2nd, NOT 4th! Rocketman - no dis intended ampssuck
  22. Jeff- I agree with your post, my only problem is it has taken many years for Phantom to shed the runnerup/Conspiracy mentality if they have at all. Once the shows are designed to win and at the same time please some of the fans, then Phantom will again place in the top 3 on a consistant basis! I do believe that some of the Champions shows have been the best while others are questionable. ala Star 93 IMO <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am curious to know what years when the corps was contending, that you feel they didn't please the fans? In the 70's, they certainly were geared/designed toward winning. I know I'm going to get some slack for this but, in '77 they took a completely new show (unheard of at that time) and finished 2nd behind a rehash show that included Rocky! In '78 most corps were rehashing shows including Regiment, SCV, BD, Madison, etc. Again in '79, 80-90% of the show was new and again it finished behind rehash (Chicago III and drum solo) and a show that, for all intents and purposes, was not too dissimilar from what they had been doing for the past 3-4 years. I do believe there was a clear intent, at that time, to keep the corps from winning. Be it perpetrated within the judging community or from orders on high. The most obvious proof of this would be the general effect scores from 1979 that were referenced earlier in this post. 28.6! Considering how much better the corps' show was over 1978 (29.6), that score just doesn't make sense. Of course, it could just be me! Rocketman - Amoebae-man ampssuck
  23. What Controversy? Is, it true, the blue was choosen for a possible "blue Screen" effect when televised meaning, you wouldn't see them, only the rifles? To me, there has not been another 1978 meaning, 5 corps had legitimate shots. It should have been much closer in the top 5 than it was. Rocketman - Inquiring minds ampssuck
  24. We in the Regiment NEVER had a sense of humor! Our Bicentennial celebration also included "76" inside the liberty bell. Rocketman - Don't make me laugh! ampssuck
