  1. Okay so the theory is that you have to take 2nd or 3rd before the judges allow you to win. First of all, the judges don't get together and conspire. Let's go back and look at Crown 2009. They won brass and music ensemble. Okay those are more objective. Two of the judges had them in first. Even though they've never medaled before that. Can we include Bluecoats 2014? Or is that null and void because they took 3rd in 2010? 2014 BD kicked everyone's butt and it wasn't even close. Except SCV won percussion. There are very few examples. I guess the only way to debunk this theory now is if BAC can manage to win a title next year. And if not, then they can't medal.
  2. I would think that Cavs beating Bluecoats last year at Finals, a year after winning, would say something against it, and then on top of that, BAC over taking those supposed resurgent Cavs this season. The judges got it right this season, in order. Boston won guard over Blue Devils. Now BAC has competitive inertia and it would not surprise me to see them with a bronze next season,.if they improve their brass line. If they medal, then the CI theory is debunked. But if they don't, then it's CI that is conspiring against them. It's also a conspiracy if they only take 3rd. Its a conspiracy that Blue Devils are always first or 2nd. That's what I think this is about. If BD had won in 2013 then i might take it more.seriously. Because that show was terrible.
  3. Is this thread about corps not being able to win because judges don't believe they're good enough to win unless they've medaled recently? I haven't seen this happen. I believe every show that has won in the past 20 years has won because it deserved to win. As far as moving up the ranks, well that's difficult for good reason. It takes a lot of talent and experience to write a good show, and a lot of talent and experience to perform it. Are there examples of shows/corps that obviously should have moved up the ranks but didn't because of this competitive inertia? Or is this all just speculation and theory?
  4. I like the idea of two guard judges at major events. There is currently too much going on now in a show for one judge to capture everything by themselves. Also, they can be working on something all summer only for the judge to miss it and not give them credit for that particular section. But they happen to catch a section they struggled with. Same with battery and pit, one judge each,.please. They can easily add pit ensemble into the scoring sheets. Instead of dividing the whole music score by two, they'd just have to divide by 4, then multiply by 3 and then divide by two. But then this would mean the other music captions go down in importance by one third. Compensate by making GE 35 points instead of 40 and music 35 instead of 30. Music is more important anyways IMO. And they need to make a ruling about tarps. Some way to keep them from tripping marchers. Can't tape them, can't anchor them to the ground, but you can fold the edges back underneath and sew a tunnel to put a wooden dowel through to keep them down.
  5. Maybe you can keep a running count by editing your OP when new info comes?
  6. Lol. The audience isn't clapping enough, so now we need to force the corps to stay there on the field for another minute until the crowd feels guilty enough to start clapping again. Because some corps get more applause than others. All corps are equal, but some are more equal than others.
  7. So...why can't they do both? Add an extra minute of field time for setup/teardown and also another minute for the curtain call? This would only add 24 minutes to the event.
  8. All I said is that they've done jazz for at least 3 years in a row. I'm not complaining about it, because I like it. But to say that Crown has been the same every year but not the Bluecoats, that is mind boggling. Crown is KNOWN for doing something completely different. And then the OP says "well I was talking about arrangements". Okay. So complain that the arrangers aren't good enough. It comes down to the OP being upset because Crown always does triple tonguing. Wah wah wah. Yeah that is something to complain about. For crying out loud this is the stupidest thread I've seen on here in some time.
  9. I don't understand you guys about Bluecoats. As far as I'm concerned, they have done the exact same show twice in a row. And as far as complaining about arrangements. A trained ear in classical music can listen to a piece of music and tell you who wrote it without having heard it before. For example, just the other day I listened to some piece and thought it sounded like Robert Schumann and it was. Does that mean I can criticise him because it's a similar style? No of course not. So why do you complain about the music arrangers of certain corps? They have their distinct styles that make them different. Same with drill designers. Do they have to all of a sudden forget what they know and start all over as a different person from year to year? My God, of all the things to complain about over DCI, someone would choose to complain that these highly skilled and professional arrangers are not innovative enough to put something absolutely new and fresh out year after year. They don't make a whole lot of money either, you know.
  10. I predict there will be discussion and rulemaking regarding tarps to try and keep marchers from tripping over them. The ruling will not include banning them. They will try and sweep the problem under the .....tarp.
  11. I disagree. I'm not a huge fan of electronic usage, but as long as they're doing it, it's best to keep those spots available for musicians. It's not "sound engineer corps". And because of the dangerous nature of electrical currents, it should be a rule that only trained adult non marchers can be involved in the assembly and disassembly of electronic equipment.
  12. It would be nice to see age out counts for the current top 12. I think SCV will medal again, BD, and I think Crown and BAC will be contending for 3rd. Cavs, Cadets and Bluecoats battling for 5-7th and it will be close early until Cavs pull away, but Blue Stars will be a dark horse to upset the one who falls behind. BD SCV Crown BAC Cavs Bluecoats Blue Stars Cadets Blue Knights Phantom Mandarins Spirit Crossmen fall out.
  13. Bluecoats have done jazz with giant props pretty much 3 years in a row now. Crown has gone from Mahler, to rock, to Western, Beethoven, Einstein/Glass, no idea what this year's music came from, but they're all over the place. Maybe arrangements by one brass arranger has similarities in writing style from year to year, but that's to be expected. And as far as being able to tell what corps is doing what show. If someone were to tell me all of the show titles for the top 12 corps, I bet I could match each show title with their corps without knowing beforehand who is doing what.
  14. As far as Crown, the difference in style between last year's show and this year's is staggering. Even 2016. Completely different types of shows. Same with 2010 and 2011. They aren't afraid to do something completely different. It seems Bluecoats are stuck in a rut as far as show style goes. Let's see what road these two groups go down next year.
  15. Oh my God what a sound. Brass and percussion were just on another level IMO. 19 years will.come to an end. Heck, 29 years.
  16. Very strong performance! I think they intended to keep 2nd and I think they will. Sorry BAC but I'm not quite sure you're holding on to that guard trophy...wow gonna be close. Lemme check who is judging guard tonight. I hope it's not her.
  17. I haven't seen BD move and play this much since...well omg I don't even know. Impressed.
  18. I also believe the little sequence of numbers you see on your screen are so that if you put this recording on YouTube, they can track you down and sue you.
  19. She almost makes me accept singing in drum corps. This just fits so well. And wow she does such a great job. Very cuh lass i!
  20. Wow Boston. Congratulations on the most entertaining show of the season. Here's your Zingali winner. Very well done performance, very clean! Very powerful.
  21. I'd dare say the Blue Stars were very slightly better than Cadets tonight IMO. I doubt the judges will have the guts to score them better if it were true though. Cadets seemed off a little. Both visually and in brass. Brass sounded off, intonation issues that were obviously noticeable by those who know how to listen for it.
