  4. Hey Kevin (Gadget Man), Happy brithday! I was so looking forward to tonight's show as it was going to be my only live show this year. 9. I hit this thread late, but here's my take on the all girl side: I voted for the Mello Dears because they were like a sister corps to us (just a few miles up rt 17 in NY). Bob Zazzara did their brass and we had an opportunity to play a few parade tunes together in our early days. Now, as for the hottest, in deference to all of our Mello Dear friends, Les Chatelines were (can I say this?) the hottest. (Slipping into memory mode) Toppsfield Fairgrounds at the World Open in either the late 60's or early 70's. Les Chatelines was staying at the same place. WOW...
  10. Shimes, DO I take it that you marched with Grenadiers and Mark Twain? What years did you march? I might know you!
  11. Maybe I'll even run down there Friday night if the liquid sunshine is not coming down!
  12. Does anyone have a list of housing sites for the Salem show? The mother in law is finally beginning to recover from some SERIOUS health issues, so my wife wants me to make a day of the Salem show. She says I deserve it for being such a good son in law and spending many hours sitting with mother at the hospital! So where is everyone going to be rehearsing??? Thanks Tom
  13. I have to agree with jwillis35. I'm glad to see that he (or she) saw what I saw! The Pioneers have a good show that does need cleaning. I'm glad to see Donny Allen (of DCA fame) working with them. He's a great shaper of horn lines. I was blown away by the Blue Star's use of their uniform colors in the visual program. The half white and half blue uniforms really were used to enhance their show. The Colts have a powerful horn line. The red uniforms are striking. Definitely a Cesario uniform. A good program with lots of great impact moments. I know people have said it, but the Blue Devils first half of their show really gets you on the edge of the seat. The second half seemed to give me a big let down. I have to give that snare drummer that lost his snare a lot of credit. It looked like he even had problems with the j bar, but recovered very nicely. I did feel that their guard at times distracted me from the horns and drums, something that rarely happens to me. By distracting me, I felt that for some reason that they were not integrated well into the visual program, bit who am I to say. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions! I enjoyed the Cavies show and look forward to them putting in the new ending. The Pressure movement was super and I believe the strongest moments of their show. I live in Cleveland, so call me a homer if you will, but I had Bluecoats winning tonight. Their program across the board seemed much cleaner than BD or the Cavies. I felt they also came out on top in GE. I have really grown to love their show. I think it is a perfect example of how narration ADDS to a show! Their guard was crisp and clean and very well integrated into the visual package. Overall, this was a great show! I think the scores across the board were maybe .5 to 1 point lower than I thought they should be. We'll see how everthing shakes out after Allentown tomorrow night. Great performances by all the corps tonight!
  14. I haven't seen PR's show, but I can say that I have not seen a tuba (contra) program like Coats have this year. Saw them at their preview in Canton and was totally impressed by how and how often they were staged and featured. As a low brass playyer myself, I can say they were playing some tough licks very well. I've been told by others that have seen them since that night that they are much better now! That section rocks!
  15. Good Luck to my friends at the White Sabers. I know you have been working hard, and bringing in Bob Z can only help! I remember Bob back in '66 as our horn arranger and instructor. He can work wonders with a brass line! He's the man that got me into this activity. Tell him I said hello! Tom MaKinster
  16. Gadget, I could utter three letters that I'm sure you will remember from recent past! They start with S. Seriously though, I have seen a lot of your CD collection and know that you are a true collector of glorious sounds of Drum Corps. I am green with envy. Tom
