Could also look at it as a money saving tactic too.

Exactly. Why spend the money when you don’t need to. Especially if you just won high drums with a small amount of age outs.
Brass also cut back to two cities, hopefully high retention rate from this season.
On the other hand guard has 4 audition cities thru the fall. Trying to ride the success of a 6th place finish and a new guard program. Attract More talent and they can definitely be a top 5 guard.

  2. Cavaliers percussion posted that auditions are only virtual this year. Could it be because there are so few spots open in ‘24? I noticed only 8 roses (age outs) in the Best percussion pic. 8 out of 34 is pretty good. Anyone with insight? Could be with their WGI connections from this year they already have some in mind for the few spots?

  3. Posted on other thread:

”It has yet to be announced if the time away from tour will impact what the 2024 season will look like, in regard to scheduling and the widely discussed possibility of a reduced and/or regional tour. However, significant oversight is expected to ensure that the Vanguard organization is strong for years to come.”

    that’s interesting…

His drill for Reagan last year had some super Early-2000s Cavies-esque moments, and a whole lot of intention in some really cool ways. He wasn’t on my bingo card to take the leap into the DCI drill writing world but he should fit in extremely well with that team, more so than some of the other names I heard connected to that job.

Just watched some video. If he can do that with a high school then it should be exciting to see what he does for the Cavaliers.

Looks like the design team is set. Let’s see what they can do without the constraints of an Anniversary season.

Glad to see the guard team returning. It was pretty amazing watching the progress from the beginning of the season to 6th place at finals. Most improved guard of 2023.

I can think of a corps that needs a new drill writer that I think he would be perfect for. Worked with one green corps. Why not go to another.

Or just go back to the Cavaliers. Hand him the whole kit and kaboodle this time. I’ve said before that every show he designed for SCV could’ve been designed for the Cavaliers. Yes, including Babylon.

I interpreted this post differently until I looked at facebook... Mark Richardson posted about openings for all three of the above roles - program coordinator, brass caption head, and corps manager.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but it’s not good if they have to advertise the openings. Correct?  Usually this stuff is done behind closed doors or with a handshake.

This was made by an SCVC alum who’s was frustrated by the org making them take 22 off, which then in turn led to the A corps.

There’s No Place Like Santa Clara is an acronym the corps uses a lot.

The purple feather is something that members would give towards members they did not want to come back to the org for various reasons.

This photo was made to signify that VMAPA gave SCVC a purple feather. And now In turn.VMAPA is being given the purple feather

Thanks for the explanation. Wow…that purple feather is harsh. Kind of like being blackballed from a fraternity. Would the organization hand out a purple feather or would the members?

They cancelled because they couldn’t realistically hold it without getting into staff updates. It will be held after the Tues after Labor Day because of that rule. Nothing bad caused it. They explained to alumni. Thanks all.

Couldn’t they just say “Folks we’re back for ‘24. Please check our website for audition information. Unfortunately due to DCI policies we can’t talk staff at this time until after Labor Day . Thank You for Understanding.”

    it’s really not that difficult.

They let a good duo go after 2022...

Do you know the inside scoop of the “letting go”? Because I do. I’m guessing you don’t based on how matter of fact your statement is without support and if you did know you wouldn’t have commented.

Heard from someone I trust with these sorta things. Wont be naming names. If I was misled Im willing to take the blame publicly

No problemo. Totally understand how things work. Like I had mentioned a few posts back maybe they have an arranger and brass caption manager team in mind already?
