  1. You are correct....the order is drawn in groups of three. By quickly glancing at the order I think the draw could most benefit Bluecoats and Cavies. If the Coats wanna try to pass Phantom and Cavies with Madison, this would be the week. Blue Stars lucked out as well and may be able to stay ahead of Troopers and Crossmen. Boston benefited the least in the draw, performing in the 12th spot. If they can't escape the 10/11/12 draw it may become harder for them to move up into the 7/8/9 grouping. Remember, the average scores at San Antonio/Atlanta and Allentown determine performance order at prelims. Minneapolis is not included in that average.
  2. Saw recent rehearsal footage of Cavies and the Brass has shown tons of improvement. Still some issues, but none the less, waaaay better.
  3. Historically speaking, your scores are about 2 points too low for this show.
  4. When other corps scores improve, they deserve it. When Cavies scores go up, its impossible, a conspiracy I tell ya. LOL, sarcasm off. I'm all smiles. What makes me even happier are that the performance scores are no where near the content scores. That tells me, they have lots of room for improvment and development. FYI, that score is almost 5 points higher than this time last year. Still think their missing finals????
  5. Cavies the same. No shows the 1st-4th.
  6. Interesting, different shows....BUT: Madison 74.6 Phantom 73.9 Coats 73.2 Cavies 72.9 Less then 2 points separating the above corps Then: Spirit 70.8 Boston 69.2 Amazing the Cavies are this dirty, yet still in there. If people on this board think The Cavaliers are in danger of making finals, then Boston fans must freaking out (still haven't broke 70.0).
  7. I believe last year Saucedo judged some shows. Can't remember if Cavies were in attendance. Don't think there was any controversy. Maybe past designers/arrangers would be the way to go? But again maybe not, all critiques might be comparisons on how they would've done it.
  8. Snares/SCV Tenors/tuning that's a toss up, but I will say Cavies sound is projecting really well this season on the field and in recordings. Basses/have to agree, again with the Cavies. That sound is deep, lush and beautiful. Those feature split parts sound killer.
  9. Not a full panel Friday night. No Brass, Guard or Vis. prof judges
  10. Anyone else notice that some corps are outperforming their content scores on the judges sheets? Not sure that's a good thing or bad thing. Music or drill too easy?
  11. In all honesty, I think everyone was trying claim "age" as being the cause of last years problems. We all know that show design would be more to blame. I remember last year in Indy watching the age out ceremony and counting the boys. I thought to myself, this is crazy, I thought it was a "young corps".
  12. Just watched spirits show again...while I can appreciate their brass, visually they'll need to make some major changes to have any chance of moving up. As of right now that visual program will max out by san antonio.
  13. I agree that design isn't the only issue, but the earlier you perform, the more the judges hold back the scores. I think percussion is fine, in 2011 cavies won high drums and in 2012 they were .7 behind that score, if cavies would have performed a few spots later at finals, I guarantee that same performance would have earned a few tenths more. Guard seems to be better this year. Last night their book beat phantom and they were right on phantoms tail in performance (and in a wind storm). I would like to see some major changes in the brass staff and to be completely honest wouldn't mind a new brass arranger as well, sorry Drew. And I wouldn't mind if Mr. Gaines would decide to make a surprise return.
  14. Totally agree with this. Is it top 5? Probably not.But those who think the Cavaliers will not make Finals, you're wrong. From all the shows in the current top 13, this show from a design and performance perspective has the most room for development. The staff has its hands full with a very young corps. But it appears this show has been better received by judges and fans, then 2012. I could see Secret Society developing as Mad World did in 2010, but the corps is less experienced. I still remember watching Mad World for the first month of the season thinking WTF, then right around the Texas tour it finally clicked and the Cavies made their move. I'm not saying theyre gonna jump into top 3, but those predicting the demise of the Cavies are mistaken. We tend to forget that Michael Gaines was/is arguably one of, if not the best drill writer in modern dci history. It's a big hurdle to get over and will take time. I look forward to the progress and development of this show and wish these young men nothing but good luck.
  15. No percussion judge in Lexington. 13.9 was the brass score.
  16. Now that I have FINALLY seen more than 30 seconds of the Cavies (just shy of 3 minutes on YouTube), here's first impression. Show design, much better then last year. Definitly needs tweeking in drill and music. The backbone is there, something that "15 minutes" lacked. At this point last year execution was better but product not so much. This year product better but execution not so much. Im much happier with the latter. Judging by content v. execution scores last night and the comments I've heard that seems to be the feeling surrounding the show. It was extremely dirty and reminded a lot of how Mad World started the season. Excited to see how season progresses.... BTW, the drumline is awesome and should be top 5. Liked the staging of the guard much better. Even though they were dirty that drill has them running all over the field, which I find more impressive then standing in place doing ripple tosses.
  17. 3 minutes of Cavies now on the tube....
  18. After last year I understand anyone's concern over Cavies drill. But, and I say this meaning no insult to these corps, I haven't seen drill from Cadets, BD nor Crown that has made me think Championship. It seems DCI has moved from the days of Frameworks, Spin Cycle and Machine to the concept of staging/WGI/BOA. No longer can I look at a show like I did from 2000-2006 and think hot #### that's championship drill writing. Point being, while your friend may be right, he may also be wrong. I've seen both BD and Crown live already this season and trust me my biggest impressions were not from the drill writing.
  19. I have to agree that the uniforms were too dark on the field. I was up high on 50 yard line in a small stadium and found it difficult to appreciate the body movement, especially in the pre show. I do like the style of the uniform itself, but believe if they had used a different color combination it would be more effective. The black gloves, especially make it hard to see. That's why drum majors wear white gloves. If you're gonna draw attention to the hands the crowd should be able to see them. A cream/purple/black combination with the new uniform would've been more effective and preserved crowns "cream" identity.
  20. Thank you so much for keeping us updated on the videos. Now if you can find me a peek into the Secret Society, it'll be much appreciated :)
  21. Blue Knights...much better live then YouTube. Lol. Incomplete show. Definitly top 12. Thinking 10-12 range. Different type of show for them.
  22. Cavies arrangement of Drum Music Is a completely different beast. Wait till you hear the whole thing.
  23. Academy just finished. Not a complete show. Brass seems s little weaker then past two years. Weird seeing a "cutesy" show from them. Not seeing finals for them in 2013 :(
