  1. This 100%!!!!! I could not agree more!!!!
  2. They left themselves open to some major civil liability. And it’s not normal at all to leave a juvenile that you, as a drum corps, have taken responsibility for at a medical facility with no supervision at all.
  3. This. Phantom Regiment is a corps that is, by its nature and name, dark and brooding (The black uniforms are due for a return, but that’s just my opinion). Some of Regiment’s greatest productions / performances have been because they were angry enough to say, “#### it!! We’re Phantom Regiment and here is what we do best.” The productions can be the designs of today, but still dark and classic Regiment.
  4. Yes we did....and we were the best 8th place corps ever.
  5. Agreed...to an extent. This is the first year that Regiment has been out from under the envelope of their previous program coordinator, who even though he was an institution at Phantom Regiment, it seemed as though the designs under his watch fell further and further behind. Perhaps this year is the first of an upward trend (even though they’re in a terrible position right now) where fresh aggressive designers and instructors bring the corps back to the designs that are competitive with where DCI is going.
  6. I marched Regiment 97 and 98. The same marching members were there both years, minus just a few age-outs. We came in 4th in 97, and 8th in 98. It wasn’t a talent issue, I can assure you. There was a definite shift in the design quality of the two shows...
  7. Agreed, but if you look at the overall history of the corps from its beginning, there have been these drops in placement just before the corps massively rebuilds and returns to being the powerhouse that is Phantom Regiment. As a alumnus of Regiment, it bothers the hell out of me to see where they’re at right now, but I’m confident that the correct adjustments will be made.
  8. Regiment needs to innovate and create the type of shows that are competitive in the more WGI style drum corps of today, but without forgetting that they are the ####### Phantom Regiment!!!!! It seems like they lost their way, and are now trying to find it again. This year is definitely a step in the right direction, but changes need to be made, unfortunately. They’ll right the ship....they always do. Bring back the helmets......just sayin. It’s the single greatest sign that Phantom Regiment has arrived. When I marched in the 90’s once we put the helmet on, everyone knew that bad@sses were on the way.
  9. Tonight was my first time streaming. Watched the Orlando show..... My take on it is that for $30 a month, I’m getting to see multiple shows, which is significantly cheaper than I would EVER spend attending them all in person. Plus I’m not packed in a hot stadium dealing with heat, rude folks who talk and get up during the performances, and possible rain. I’ll take the glitch in the feed every few minutes. Not worth complaining about. They’re doing a great job.
  10. I wonder if they can be given a new role in the production. Perhaps if they played a brass instrument (or could be taught...very quickly)? Four singers= one additional brass player in each section. -Yes, I totally realize that is a horribly impractical idea...
  11. Agreed.....I’ll never stop loving drum corps, but the spandex trend is not a favorite of mine at all..... ....#### it, I just became an old geezer...
  12. How about we call it the Harvey Weinstein of drum corps. A powerful person in the industry taken down by years of his own indiscretions.
  13. Poor Magic of Orlando, 1997. They starved...we ended up feeding them after shows more than once...
  14. So, I wonder if April Gilligan is coming back? Or if any of the great instructors of the past will come back now that the former director (his name isn’t worth even saying) is gone.....
  15. https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder http://www.health.com/mind-body/sociopath-traits Chilling....when you read about the traits listed and then look back on the years of his behavior. ####.....#### him for what he did to all the people he hurt.
  16. This is my concern as well. He “resigned,” but is really just going to run YEA/Cadets from behind the scenes. As long as the puppet BOD is in place, there WILL be contact with Hopkins and there’s more than a good chance he’ll be briefed on the day to day operations of “his” Cadets. **For the record, they are not, nor were they ever, his Cadets.....ever.**
  17. As long as the BOD is still in place, Hopkins could very well still be running things from behind the scenes, even though he has “resigned.” There needs to be a completely new BOD that isn’t in his back pocket..... $.02
  18. Agreed. And I think anyone who loves the idea of what drum corps is has to learn to adjust. Drum corps is more than what's on the field, it's the every day struggle of what the individual corps go through to put the production on the field, and the coming of age experience for the MM's. I was just simply remarking that I wish the trend would revert back to a time when it was just music and movement. I know it'll never go back to that, and that's okay. Just a commentary on my transition to dinosaur status than anything else.
