  1. Really sorry your son is having to deal with all this. I had a similar experience a several years ago with "Mountaineers D&BC" in Roanoke, VA. Fortunately I didn't lose any money/time on it, but my name was on the website for a long time and I couldn't get them to take it off... Good luck to your son!
  2. I'd be interested to hear from any kids who may have signed up/showed up to any of these events. If they came thinking, "cool, this is affiliated with a bunch of corps people, it must be good," then they were let down... it couldn't be good for the image of DC as a whole. I was willing to give Mr. Nagy another shot (get on danielray all you like, but sometimes people do change and learn from their mistakes). However, it just seems after the unprofessional facebook interactions and the now dead website, I was probably wrong to do so.
  3. ... and one of my old bass drummers is now an EMT in town! Nooooo!
  4. Apparently Better Business Bureau (sp?) opened up an account on "Accent Marching" on 2/20/12. Accent Marching is not accredited, but there is still a place to lodge a complaint with BBB, it looks like. http://www.bbb.org/raleigh-durham/business-reviews/musical-instrument-lessons/accent-marching-in-raleigh-nc-90208132 This home base is in Raleigh, NC...?
  5. Ha! I had considered having one of those at my band's rehearsals next year... If someone doesn't have their drill book, I hand them the B&D drill and say, "March with this." Counter-productive, maybe. Hilarious, yes. Kudos to X-men for doing it first!
  6. Thank you tmpt82 for calling and getting it from the horse's mouth. Your comments certainly influenced the way I was feeling about this topic. If we see by the end of the week, as he said, that changes are being made for the better, I'll ascribe to danielray's analysis of the situation.
  7. So, I was watching 2000 Cavaliers and could not take my eyes off of the two on-field judges. Usually I can filter them out, but not when there's a huge company front... plus one lone green shirt... ugh. Any show that sticks out for you? Funny, infuriating, downright weird judging moments you can't help but notice?
  8. I am slowly becoming an electronic music nut, and there are few artists that create music that would translate to the field well, especially with all the repetition. That being said, check out Infected Mushroom. Lots of melodic material in their rep, and the "Vicious Delicious" album has several tunes that change tempi.
  9. Aww, no love for 2000? *click* :) Fun drill and music! 2003 was also really cool... the fire crackling was especially unique. Too bad they didn't make finals that year.
  10. And this is why I can't stay away from DCP! I think this would be fantastic. Great programmatic piece... my kids played this last year in Concert Band and would flip out if they knew The Cadets did it this year. Check it out: http://www.jwpepper.com/2700771.item.
  11. Especially considering how many awesome guards there have been over the past two decades... I'm genuinely surprised by this. Wow!
  12. This would be an awesome topic for the Roundtable!!! :-)
  13. From now on, I will be using this show to convert the hard core concert band folks to hard corps folks. BK is doing a fantastic job with the source material! One of my favorites this year! :-)
  14. If she meant pudge or a little flabbiness, I know that I was eating like 30 billion calories a day to fuel my body through the summer. I built a good bit of muscle and lost quite a bit of weight, but still had a healthy, eh... cushion under my dermis. :) Besides, those kids do it almost through sheer will anyway!
  15. Now this ... is awesome! Any video of this? I'd love to see it!
  16. Oo! I get it! Maybe it'll all be music from the movie "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and they have Sean Connery lined up to MC the TOC events!
