  1. Hello - my name is Flowerchild and I am a lurker
  2. Anyone attending the show? Will SCV maintain their lead over Crown? Will the Cavaliers remain in first place?
  3. Didn't think I was complaining - just making an observation that most of the talk is about Crown and Cadets.
  4. It appears this year of DCI has been really dependent upon the rivalry between the Cadets and Crown. It almost seems like no other teams exists. So many people want HNC to have a wonderful year due to the milestone and the fact that they have finally come back to the drum corps from amplification. It appears that the way the schedule was designed - this was a match up from the very beginning. This is the first year in about 5 years that I really noticed scheduling. Fewer corps performing at each show puts more focus on the corps at the top. What happened to Phantom? First last year to not much love this year... Just not sure I am liking the way this season is playing out. Great drum corps moments no doubt but the overall season seems to have been set up from the beginning.
  5. I have not seen the show yet but unbelievable that Crown is scoring so high this early. Looks like someone is being set up for a major disappointment. When does the full judging panel begin?
  6. Yes, it is very early in the season - but now that most of the shows have begun - who are you most impressed with. Of course the Cadets are going to be pushiong hard but there seems to be a lot of momentum for Carolina Crown even if they appear a bit GREEN!
  7. Looking forward to seeing how Carolina Crown fares and if the Cadets "bring it" this year
  8. So, basically what I am hearing - is most of you don't have a problem with the facebook thing and I can see your reasons. After reading the responses though - I have to believe that there might be something "missing" in an activity in which the participants are asked to come up with such extravagent fees. 4 tour buses, food bus, etc. - touring all summer - wow - great experience no doubt but unfortunately in the world we live today - it seems well outside many budgets. It is always about winning, having the best equipment, the best talent, etc. Before I go any further - I have sponsored individuals quite a bit in the past. However I don't like the direction DCI has gone and don't fully agree with the costs both financially and physically on the individuals today. Let's face it - when you are young - standing in the sun all day, stretching your body to its maximum capacity and eating/sleeping habits thrown off seems very doable and healthy but as you get older it does have its affects.
  9. While I am totally entertained by DCI and the dedication and commitment of the youth, I am beginning to have an issue with the way many of the participants are going about getting the money to perform. Asking (almost begging) for money via Facebook, MySpace and email to pursue an activity almost distracts from the activity itself. I was just reading the Scholarship discussion and it doesn't seem fair that some people get to march for free while others do not but unfortunately that is what this world is coming to. It is in sports, the arts, business, etc. If you want to pursue something in life, work hard, find sponsors (the old art of letter writing) and make it happen for yourself. Don't depend on others to get you there.
  10. When I think of Crown - I think of cheesey - not taking anything away from their performance but I think their shows have the done trick and got their fan base up and I would love to see them step up to a new level this year and bring it home.
  11. I am just curious who you think needs to step up their percussion game and what they can do to make it happen. Carolina Crown is one that comes to mind. Even though they finished pretty high even in percussion - their percussion scores seem to be lacking.
