  1. Clearly you are looking for a confrontation...Now with that said what the heck are you talking about 40 years ago. My involvement is right to the present and what does that have to do with this serious subject.
  2. and your point?...look if you are looking for a confrontation ( clearly ) ....move on . But I do appreciate the conversation, and the importance of safety on and off the field. I just won't decide which injury may be acceptable or not. Hurt is hurt and if it's a fall of any kind must be considered and taken seriously. ANY KIND. I think we can agree on that.
  3. and who belittling the subject. ..Youre right with 1 thing...this isn't debatable choosing not to engage , and I don't mean the subject is something quite different
  4. This , This and THIS, thanks for the absolute basic explanation. Sometimes I type to much thinking I'm getting somewhere...lol...Bad me...lol...thanks DUDE!...lol
  5. I had alot more typed but just deleted it all. Best way to say it is what Jeff ream said....all true
  6. no doubt at all...it has and there have been some serious falls
  7. I hear ya...truly. Not quite as complicated as it may seem
  8. Thanks for the break down and youre right. I just hate typing long responses ( although sometimes have to) and of course sometimes when some people ask a question they truly want an answer or opinion, then there are those who ask a question to fuel a debate which often goes nowhere. Weaklefthand I believe truly deserved an answer which maybe I didn't provide enough.......thanks
  9. same can be said ( and Has ) of high speed whiplash drill that many people love.
  10. Its actually easy to judge something traditional verses something modern. It comes down to HOW and WHY something was done and HOW WELL it was done. Just because someone has some fancy props does not mean they are used well We have seen that )and make sense to the program. For me ( and I have judged ) it's not an advantage nor a disadvantage.
  11. this is true of so many corps in the past BUT has nothing to do with props or no props, good design or bad, etc etc but everything to do with bad management. Even bad management with all good intentions is still bad management. Many corps over the decades fell to this. Even many with good people but bad management. If a corps can't make the members a priority or they can't take care of them, they don't have anything .
  12. One thing I can totally agree with you on is ( highlighted ) BUT when used properly ( like with anything) 👌.. With anything new or old. bad design, bad performances , etc etc, is just bad and of course good can also be darn good.
  13. Yes it is...remember even the best laid out plans, visuals, design, smoke and mirrors, just like music, staging, etc etc may be planned out by other than members, it is the members who make it work ( or not ) bring it to life ( or not ) connect to people on many different levels ( or not) and. Achieve their own personal and collective goals.
  14. Not at all...but that brings it back to a dead subject of the tic system and the subjectivity of that
  15. I woud agree that if a corps needs to continually explain there's a disconnect BUT for me a great program is one that a person can sit back and say....I have no freakin idea what that was about BUT #### was that good. This is a sign of great programing, wonderfulplaying and exciting viuals.
  16. You clearly have a problem with judging in general.............and thats fine
  17. If its on the field it's considered. More props doesn;t mean good, it can create a hot mess and if done well can be the opposite. No difference than flag color choices to create a mood. Now if your argument ( and it seems it ) judging by a select panel verses a crowd which can be affected by region, bias, specific supporters etc etc then thats something different. It seems judging in general is what you don't care for. Now that can be an argument or debate by many I'm sure.
  18. True but I also remember PR as well as Cadets ( mike can vouch for the no more war show ) who gave a hand out at shows. With that said, and this also goes to judging. One can watch a show they completely do not understand and appreciate so many aspects of it, musically visually, emotionally.......If they want to IMO PR was a fav. of mine this year for many reasons , including visually and musically. I think it was a fine moment for them in a while BUT so was Bluecoats and others. Sometimes ( again to judging a product ) one looks beyond the obvious to enjoy many many layers that make up a program. There's beauty in simplicity ( meaning stripped down and a raw focused program ) as well as a full on extravaganza . Both can be done exceptionally as well as some done not well at all. I really don't like ( although I tried not to and did..lol ) over think anything from this year because I believe this year IMO shouldn't be a year of picking anything apart but celebrating every single person on that field for just being there. It didn't have to happen and every single program is not just a winner but a testament to so much more than just a drum corps show. These MMs especially are ALL gold medal winners no matter the program and people I think showed their appreciation as they should have to these incredible young people during one of the worst times in our lifetime. Bravo to them ALL !
  19. I'll say it again wherever the activity goes it will be the corps decision.....as it's always been....So funny I heard this argument in almost every decade...lol,,,starting as far back as 72 when drum corps was dead forever...hmmmmmm By the way who said there wasn't room for throw back shows IF done correctly and done well.. How many times have we heard WSS out of Cadets and as much as some never want to hear it again it seems always fresh to me at least. I can agree whatever sheets should reflect BUT once again who decides this...thats my point...I never took a side on this nor would I here probably, just stating some facts or the obvious ..
  20. Yes you're right but the point is corps decide what those sheets or weight of the sheets etc etc will be. Some tend to think judges decide WHAT those sheets will be and corps just follow like sheep. If corps don't like what the sheets are they can change that although they decided upfront what they are. Now if they don't like how any judge interprets what those sheets are as you say that's a different story.
  21. the sheets are dictated by the corps not by judges.
