I believe he visited star of Indiana's practices once in a while with the team to show them how hard the corps worked.
-
looking forward to see them continue to excel in 2024.
One thing I hope for is a visual design that has more 'drill' focus (like 2022), and less scatter/body as visual moments.
I know their music will be great!

I gotta say I really enjoyed the battery writing. The electronics/sound effects I thought were done very tastefully too.
-
looks like they marched a hole tonight. bummer.
assuming that will be the case all weekend. Anybody know anything?

I might be the only alumni out there who would rather there not be a SUTA yell or kick out, lol

percussion isn't scoring well but I will say I really enjoy the battery writing. Sounds more musical than in past years (post rennick). The 'fills' between brass moments are always cool, and that drum break...
Front ensemble also sounds more musical, but I wish they showed their talent with more technical passages.

I'm really enjoying the music. Maybe even more than last year. The "they are scv" commentary is funny, SCV started to sound like PR long before PR started to sound like SCV.

excited about these additions. But I wonder if they will be switching to that grape squashing marching technique. would be weird to see regiment do that. but as long as they do whatever they do well, then great.

I loved Weber's work with SCV. However, those were the days of drill heavy visual designs. Surely he can adapt to an emphasis on staging first and drill second. But the Cavies just let go of a guy who gets modern DCI "drill," and demonstrated it tremendously from 2016-2019 (and maybe even 2022 also), so I'm not sure what Cavies are expecting to get.
ok i secretly want weber to end up at phantom regiment, but the cavaliers were always the awesome drill design corps to me. I would love to see them pick up pete weber and do a more drill focused visual design. I believe 100% that kind of design can still be successful in todays dci. And I know a ton of fans are just dying for that!

Keep JD Shaw! The Regiment sound returned this year and it was nice to hear. And keep Bob Smith to clean the drill.
making sure he never leaves again should be priority 1

Thoughts:
They just took it to another level at Little Rock! Felt so much better than even San Antonio.
I can see them finishing 7th if they get clean and continue adding layers. I can also see them finishing 10th.
I really enjoy this show a lot and don't really care where it finishes at the end of the day. It is everything I enjoy about drum corps.
The guard has really come along, and are pretty great! Drill is better than they've had in many years. I hope to see this design team all return next year, and see how far they can go.
I'm not convinced that you must be extra modern with props/staging etc to do well. I hope they continue to prove it, because what they are doing is what I enjoy.

Who do you think is going to be walking down that walkway during the big mahler moment? Right now they just push the props to make a walkway but nothing happens on it. Something is coming I would suppose.
-
God I wish they were in their helmets for this show.
Can't wait to see where this goes, it's going to be a special year for them.

speak of the devil, and he shall appear. 😈
And yes, actually me and the other general tsos chicken are different people. It was really random and weird that we both had the same random username.
About the corps, I really am in love with the music. JD Shaw is back, and that pretty much means I will always be happy with what phantom does every year. life is good.

There's still hope that like the flu, it will go away once warmer weather gets here. 🤞

If you look at the props put out by the Regiment last year, they were, at best, unsophisticated, at worst, fairly useless. Do I like that corps need two semi's to carry props? NO! However, that appears to be the current trend successfully being used by the top corps.
I do sort of agree that with the new prop centric dci, the corps with $$$ definitely have the advantage. And PRs props have always looked like something I built (I suck at building)
Good news is that the corps is no longer in the financial rut that they were, largely thanks to Rick V. It doesn't mean they have loads of cash to throw around, but I'm happy they are in a more comfortable place financially.

I would say 7th place is realistically the best case scenario for them this year, but I'd love to be proved wrong.
I am really excited about jeremy hunt being back too, he does some really good work.

Look, I don't want to pee on anyone's parade but, people were saying that about last years show too!
then don't. 😉
This year just feels different with JD Shaw, and a lot of the other designers back. I'm pretty confident we are going to get something good. Probably not top 6 or anything, but something really enjoyable.

i wonder if it's all mahler or other pieces too

i would say every show in finals this year made sense to me. I just like getting a deeper look, and seeing things I missed

which corps' put out videos last summer with their designers explaining the shows? I know at least a couple did.

Where have we read posts similar to this over the years?
well over the years didn't have JD Shaw returning, that's pretty huge and pretty much a guarantee that the music will be very enjoyable.

he was with the guard staff from 2005-2010 I believe, and was caption head in 2010.
actually i think he left for a year or two before 2010 for bluecoats
