  1. I have a feeling we are in for a treat from phantom regiment in 2020. I think they are aiming for a 2003 like year.
  2. it wouldn't be a phantom regiment thread without the constant bickering, lol
  3. I thought they always had a great palette when sage was there previously, especially 2005.
  4. With the return of JD Shaw and some of the old staff, I've compiled a list of the top 15 songs from phantom regiments past that they should revisit in 2020 1. They 2. Need 3. To 4. Move 5. Forward 6. And 7. Not 8. Keep 9. Playing 10. Music 11. From 12. Their 13. Past 14. Shows 15. Death Hunt
  5. I'm less concerned with his cleaning ability than his teaching style. Wasn't he at spirit recently? Anyone who was familiar with him there will probably be a better source than me, since it's been 15+ years since my opinion was formed. DCI is different now. WP played a big role in fostering a positive culture at phantom regiment, and I would not like to see that change. I missed the part of the article that showed caption heads. Looks like Courtney Allyson Mills is caption head as well. She is EXCELLENT!
  6. I am beyond happy. Phantom is going to be my favorite corps year after year again 😄 I think one of the reasons JD Shaw left in the first place is because he was tied to a certain genre of music and couldn't do anything else without backlash. I hope they let JD play whatever the hell he wants to play now!
  7. hope they put an announcement out soon. Every day kids are deciding where they want to audition ...
  8. I see evidence that Ferguson is staying, which is great.
  9. Totally? JD Shaw is obviously a major upgrade, but would like to see Will still involved. He really did a lot for the corps.
  10. they can sit down for 11 minutes in their pajamas, as long as they are playing music arranged by jd shaw, it will still probably be my favorite show in dci
  11. did you not ####### listen to ####### babylon? and if you people hinting that jd shaw is going back to phantom are just bull #######, please stop playing with my emotions!
  12. I haven't blue devils been doing at auditions at BOA for a long time? Other corps have to I believe. What's interesting is the guard auditions in SoCal. Have they done that in the past? Makes me wonder if they are bringing in a guard person from SoCal
  13. Thank you, I was going to make a similar post earlier but couldn't even deal with it. DCP is hilarious. I'd venture to guess he doesn't know anything about WP,'s approach to writing music or anything about him at all. Or JD Shaw for that matter, because if he did he'd know that JD Shaw has 10x the ego that Will does. 😂 Granted, JD has more than earned it!
  14. I DISAGREE with those calling for the total firing of Will Pitts. I hope he stays with the corps for a long time. Do they need more experienced hands in the design process? Yes. Maybe an additional program designer is the answer. Someone with CRED! ... and maybe guard, but god I like their rifle work this year anyway, Will does so much for the drum corps - and I think if those people who think he should be fired were actually involved and saw what went on, they'd have a different opinion. I'm not sure how much a 'program coordinator' contributes to the artistic design, anyway.
  15. Watched the Atlanta performance a few times, as others have said this show has come a LONG LONG way. I've voiced my opinion on some of the design decisions but there is a lot of good stuff too! This might actually be my favorite show of theirs since Turandot! The visual was probably the hottest of hot messes at the beginning season, but it has cleaned up well and is far more effective. Better than a good chunk of their more recent (and higher placing) shows IMO. The cross and drill leading up to it in the opener is really cool as an example. Also some really cool moments with the guard, especially weapons. Choreography with the guard ... undressing ... the brass in the block is nicely staged, just needs to be cleaned up a bit more. Also really like the interplay between male and female rifles between the call to arms chant. Nice stuff All I wanted from phantom this year was to put on a show that I actually enjoyed watching, because that hasn't been the case lately. I think they've succeeded on that! 12th place or not, this is a much better show than several of the recent years. I'm going to stay focused on the positive from here.
  16. I don't think you can equate Tony Hall coming on tour with a crappy visual design -- until recently he would come out at some point every year. Even the amazing jamey thompson years
  17. one of my favorite shows. You're an OG! Yes, you probably said it better than I did. Big difference between these nods as the closing of the show, vs thrown somewhere else in the show where maybe not expected. I was actually secretly hoping to see the kickout wedge at the end of the (new world) opener last year! Even the chevron in 2010 at the big into the light hit was great, It was used very effectively. I just wish I saw more evidence of a well thought out plan to end the show... and the chevron instead says to me that they are relying on something that worked in the past instead to generate their GE
