  1. I will not be surprised if crown does some major damage tonight, however, if I were a betting man (which I am..) I would say cavaliers on top tonight. good luck regiment!
  2. also, cavaliers are known for coming out of the gate strong and well...maintaining that strength cadets on the other hand usually start the season sucking and get WAY better... so if that theme holds true this season, cadets will end up clobbering cavies come Finals Cadets show is much more difficult and much more dirty right now and they STILL tied. however i don't think it's impossible for cavies to turn it around and end up on top....just not as likely... but who knows
  3. Best: 00 Cadets, 91 Star Favorite: 03 Regiment
  4. kindof agree the cavaliers are to drum corps, what James Swearingen is to Wind Band Literature..... formula, much of the same once in a while they will do something that I really like such as 00, 02 (because it was so different!..... at the time....) and 04 as I see it now, my prediction 1. Cadets 2/3/4 - Regiment, Crown, BD (any order) 5. Cavies 6/7/8 - bluestars, bluecoats, scv (any order) of course I'm not nostrodamus, so it will probably end much different :)
  5. good review! I too think madison should be ahead of spirit. can you go into any detail on Regiments characterization as they are entering the field? I love that they've been doing that since 05 (but more obviously last year)
  6. they also had a sack of poo for a show last year, this year they don't.
  7. from what i saw on the crappy live broadcast I thought crown looked stronger and had a more entertaining show. however I REALLY want cadets to do well this year.... and be loved again..... So I hope 2010 :P
  8. and make Myron Rosander able to write for you again :)
  9. new uniforms are hideous... why did they change? what they had was great.
  10. I watched the video as well and actually stopped watching it halfway through because I was bored. I love their new uniforms though! I think my opinion may change when I see them live though, because the video was not great quality.
  11. Got there late from dinner so missed the first few corps, sorry scouts: came out w/ black pants...not sure what jacket they are wearing. I generally liked the book...lots of malaga references but they never played it straight out. was entertaining. Hornline sounded about as good as last year at this time (well better...but they were standing still). I remember being entertained but at the same time I don't remember much about them. Bluestars: dang they were loud! geeze. I was very surprised by the sound the horns are putting out, though it's not that refined and quite muddy at this point, they have a very strong sound. Quite an entertaining book, crowd dug it. They start the ballad with a taps choral which is beautiful. Not quite digging the keyboard stuff, but not a huge deal I guess. Should put them in a pretty good spot come finals. Cavaliers: Quite a dip in volume after bluestars, but a much more refined sound... just wish they projected more. Now I was really excited when I heard Saucedo wasn't arranging for the cavaliers this year because I am not a fan of his compositions (arrangements are better). So I was really looking forward to hearing this since I really liked crossmen 04's brassbook which this guy arranged. That being said... it was boring....REALLY boring. But since it's the cavaliers I'm sure the show is 800 times better with the visual package in play which is fine, that's how they do it. The music does not stand on it own though in my opinion. Great drumline, most talented hornline at the show and probably in all of dci along with blue devils. I just wish that talent was put to good use projection wise. Bluecoats: Now I have heard on here how this hornline is amazing and is better than the 07 line that was winning brass etc. I will be hated for saying this but I thought the 07 hornline was very over rated the whole season and they ended their season where they probably should have been placing the whole season (horns wise). That being said, this 09 hornline was the best hornline of the night. Very strong, and a very entertaining book. I can't wait to see it with the visual package! Drums are very wgi which is fine. they sounded good to me but I don't know much about that. Should be a great show if the visual package isn't a bag. Phantom: From what I hear ALOT of rookies. for having as much rookies as I heard they had, they should be alot weaker than they are. They don't suck. The sound from the horns is quite good, and the book is great. At this point I didn't think they were as clean as bluecoats simply because the extremely difficult runs they have still need some work. I don't think this show wil live up to Spartacus, but regardless of placement this will be a good show. I also watched regiment's ensemble block before the show, including a run at the beginning of the rehearsal. I think the drill is better than last years (although I loved spartacus, I thought the drill was ....nothing special). Guard seems to be doing a good job and performing better than they did at this point last year in the season. I really like this show...except for one section. The first half of the opener (after the intro to the end of the tuba soli) is SOO boring. it just DRAGS and the tempo is so slow to do anything exciting visually. I don't know how they could fix that, but they need to. It seems to be at about march tempo. After the awkward tuba soli things really turn on and the rest of the show is fantastic imo. Great flugelhorn solo, maybe a little overboard on the vibrato at some points, but quite well done. At the end of the show the corps is moving at a fast tempo while the hornline is playing runs that trade off between euphs, mellos and trumpets, it is quite hot. I smile thinking about what that will sound like when it's clean. there's my review.
  12. I don't think its all based on the same theme, it's all based off of Paganini, but different paganini, I could be wrong.
  13. love the idea of an all female guard (cause i'm a guy lol ) but imagine phantom trying to do their last 4 shows w/ an all female guard??? it would not work at all. those days are gone, and I don't mind
  14. well then i guess i meant i liked the DARK green they used in the late90's early 00's. looked HOT!!!
