  2. The Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce it's 2015 program entitled "La Fiesta Popular." The corps will be performing arrangements of three pop music hits with a Latin style twist that is guaranteed to be entertaining. The corps will open with a rendition of the Jennifer Lopez/Pitbull hit "Dance Again" from the summer of 2012. The program will continue with the slightly mysterious dance club number "Burn" by Ellie Goulding. The song was made popular with the release of the 2014 film "Divergent" and the corps will take an interesting twist on the song that has to wait to be seen. The show will close with Don Omar's "Zumba" which is inspired by the dance fitness craze of the same name. The corps will pull out all the stops on this one to bring the audience on a journey through the driving rhythms and musical colors that simulate a fiesta on the beaches of Puerto Rico.

The Conquistadors are planning local community performances for 2015 and are working towards an appearance at the mini corps competition at the 2015 DCA Championships. An open house has been scheduled for December 13th at 10:00AM at the Church of the Nazarene in Owego, NY.

Full staff announcements will be made in the coming weeks.

  3. I called Vic Firth and they pretty much said that all dealers can get me a brick. They just don't advertise them. Not real impressed with customer service after being hung up on twice by accident.

Moving on, I went to guitar center and got enough pairs for open house to get us going and got a discount on them just for asking for one. They have always been really helpful at my local store and I think I will probably work with them exclusively.

  4. The Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce that we are holding an open house for our battery section on March 15th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. The event will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Owego, NY and will run alongside our color guard camp. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 11 and people of all experience levels are encouraged to attend.

The drumline will perform at local events throughout the summer to gain more community interest and to fundraise for future events.

Anyone interested in more information can visit our website at www.conquistadorsdbc.com and fill out an interest form.

  5. After a very successful informational meeting last month, the Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps is set to begin monthly Spin Camps for interested colorguard members. The first camp will be on November 9th from 10:00 to 4:00. There are no membership or financial requirements to attend these events. More information including directions and a copy of the member handbook can be found on our newly updated website at http://www.conquistadors.webs.com/.

Information about upcoming drumline events will be released soon.

  6. The Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps is preparing for the 2014 drum corps season. The first section to begin will be the color guard. An informational meeting for potential guard members will be held on October 25th at Owego Free Academy in Owego, NY; the corps' hometown.

Beginning November 9th, the corps will host monthly spin camps that are open to all that are interested. In April 2014 the guard will officially begin work for the summer parade season as well as a competitive show to be performed at the Drum Corps Associates Individual and Ensemble competition in Rochester.

In addition, the drum line is scheduled to hold an open house on December 7th. The line will rehearse biweekly throughout the winter also in preparation for summer parades and an ensemble performance at DCA Championships.

The two groups will participate in parades and other promotional events together with the intent to raise funds to purchase a satisfactory set of horns so that the hornline may begin in Autumn 2014 to prepare for full corps performances the following summer.

  9. The Conquistadors Performing Arts Association is currently looking for a drumline instructor for the upcoming spring/summer. We are developing a drum corps at this point and we are starting in the percussion section. We want to produce a drumline to march parades with our color guard and hopefully start to generate some funding and interest in the group. If all goes well, we will be making the trip to Annapolis to perform at I&E for DCA Championships.

  12. Taken From WBNG-12 Action News - Binghamton, NY

    www.wbng.com

The Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps based in Johnson City, NY is in the process of putting together a performance ensemble for 2012 and is making some huge decisions to make the dream a reality.

Corps director Harry Eldridge states “We are doing something completely unheard of to drum and bugle corps. We will be including woodwind instruments in our ensemble. This ensures that all musicians in the area have an equal chance to participate in this project, not just brass and percussion players.”

To those unfamiliar with the activity, drum corps uses only various bugles or other brass instruments such as trumpets, horns, baritones and tubas and does not typically include such instruments as saxophones, flutes, and clarinets. The ensemble will resemble more of a marching band in the early stages. Eldridge also goes on to state “We will eventually be phasing out woodwind instruments. We hope that our teaching staff can educate woodwind players on brass and percussion instruments as every member is valuable to the group. The corps cannot go into competition circuits with woodwinds however so it important to get members trained in the areas that we need to fill. For now we hope to do some local parades and raise money and awareness about the group before going into our phasing process.”

The group is looking for any interested members to visit their website at www.conquistadors.webs.com and fill out a membership application. There are no age requirements to participate, just basic knowledge of music and your chosen instrument.

In addition, the corps has decided on the first field show. The show will be entitled “The Mask of Zorro” and contain music from the motion picture. Audio samples of the show are also available on the corps website.

  13. The Conquistadors Drum and Bugle Corps is currently looking for drummers for this summer's parade unit. We are currently holding rehearsals in Owego, NY and are welcoming anyone who may be interested in playing this summer. The group is playing on Pearl Marching Percussion.

If interested, please email corps director Harry Eldridge at director@conquistadorswinterguard.org or visit our website at www.conquistadorswinterguard.org and fill out an interest form.

  18. The Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps is excited to announce the addition of a contrabass to our inventory. The horn was donated by a very generous person who has asked to remain nameless.

When we asked about the history of the contra we were given a full story of it's travels. The horn started with the Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps before moving on to the Caballeros Alumni. It was then given to our donor who in turn lent it to the Pittsfield Red Knights before donating it to the Conquistadors.

Corps director Harry Eldridge, Jr. had this to say:

"When I received word of this donation I was really caught off guard. We aren't talking a couple bucks or a set of flags or something. Not that those aren't important to us as well but a contrabass is one of the largest investments as far as equipment goes. I was informed that it is a 2 valve contra but as me and our donor discussed, 2 valves is something we can work around whereas not having equipment is a much more serious problem. The stipulation to this donation was that when we are no longer in need of the horn, it is to be passed on to the next group that is looking for help. I intend to keep my word and continue the chain of generosity."

In addition to the contrabass, the corps has also secured a set of marching percussion on loan from the Owego Free Academy music department in Owego, NY. The drums will help us to do parades so that we may earn money to purchase out own equipment.

For a photo of the horn you can visit our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/conquistadors.

For more information on our programs, visit our website at www.conquistadorswinterguard.org.

  19. It is exciting to finally break this news! The Conquistadors Performing Arts Association has announced that the Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps is ready to make its debut. The corps will be holding an open house in January to kick off the 2011 season as a parade unit and a possible trip to Mini Corps Championships! Stay tuned to our website, www.conquistadorswinterguard.org, for more details and developments!
