  1. After a great deal of reflection - I have to say... We had a show this past summer that will define and influence shows for at least a decade to come The design was like a Drum Corps Mona Lisa. The more you stare at it - the better it gets I honestly believe it was severely underscored in GE by the DCI judging community And as evidence I offer an indoor run of the 2015 Bluecoats just prior to finals night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQtuAyiPI98 An amazing and layered program, fresh and creative in so many ways So well done and original - Bravo! George.
  2. glad it is still there... We put it together to mark the first anniversary - had Stefanie helping us - she secured the rights to use Scouts' recording and music. Quest graphics did the rest and I secured the images. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/911tribute/
  3. read the article response is "oh god no" 1. reduce the emphasis on difficulty? Because "we are old" -- no 2. "retire" a 4 time champion - in other words "put the Bucs out to pasture now and then" 3. DCA Champion is on first??!! No - sucks as a audience member AND punishes success (this IS written by a liberal and you can tell) 4. Emphasize GE on the sheets? No - they picked (just fine) the best and most entertaining units. No one wants to hear Maleguana six times a night Blatissimo with 12 sloppy and unnecessary company fronts 5. "Design Team Draft"???!! What is this, communism? Socialism? What ever it is - this idea fails in an epic manner. FORCE someone to design their competitors program. THAT makes sense - not. 6. Ditch "subjective" judging. No - competition creates excellence. Always has an always will. Besides - Cadets2 will work their brass line for 2016 and may very well beat the Bucs - the corps this all is so clearly aimed at punishing How about this "fix" instead. GET BETTER & beat the Bucs (or whoever) fair and square. Which is what this is clearly all about.
  4. You got to love how this announcement has been spun into an "anti-Hopkins" conversation - as if he somehow "failed" Otherwise "not always the midas touch" wouldn't be the header for the thread The guard wasn't a WGI guard really - it was a training guard they took over and frankly it didn't really do that well Now back on topic - it's probably good they can now focus their energies on the Cadet guard program in DCI where it belongs For me this is a WIN/WIN And yet it gets spun as a matter of "control" -- "others" controlled C2 up until this past season (and he took over they jumped way up in size and quality) "others" run the Cadet indoor drum program "others" run the USBA band program But whatever... go for it!
  5. move it. Allentown would work much better or even a huge highs school stadium or small college stadium in central PA area
  6. Congratulations on the TEN wins. An amazing feat!
  7. this was his first year as a DCA director. The corps jumped way up the ranks to a strong 2nd. Sounds like when he took over Cadets. Cadets then won 3 times straight. We'll see if he can repeat that magic, but C2 was terrifically improved this season and the whole thing is exciting to watch...
  8. that's not actually true - for example the moderator commented about C2s major ensemble tear
  9. I'm not understanding your point. Were you surprised with C2 in second? Or the MBI/Cabs flip.
  10. there were? I guess some left for college. The corps was full mid summer, or at least it appeared to be...
  11. I disagree completely. Those black uniforms are gorgeous and perfect for DCA and Cadets2
  12. I didn't think any Cadets jumped to Cadets2 after this season. Cadets2 appeared full mid-season (unless they had a departure?) VERY good season from Cadets2 - percussion remained extremely strong, finishing just out of first BRASS line was much larger and more powerful - something to build on for 2015 GUARD really stood out as a huge improvement - 30 wonderful members and a spotless and well-designed finals run I'd imagine the #2 finish will help recruitment further and they should be able to move to the next level and really challenge BUCS next season in DCA Six weeks until audition camp! George.
  13. 1. Congrats on a GREAT season 2. No - they will be in the black. The new uniforms were bought for them and the old ones are hand-me-downs and, frankly, worn out 3. Hopefully Cadets2 will build on this year (recruitment should be great) and build that brass line - the only thing that held them back from really challenging BUCS for the title Go Cadets2!
  14. so if they don't "win" it's a waste of talent? I'm not sure winning is THE goal at Cadets or any other corps Hopefully instead it is to provide the members a wonderful summer and entertain audiences in the process
  15. guys - I apologize if this has already been posted but it's too sweet not to share Jeff's HOF induction speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8ZvGbo7rx4
  16. which is why the activity needs a name change - how about "Outdoor Dance Ensemble with Brass & Drum Accompaniment" ODEBDA Kind of rolls right off your tongue...
  17. As evidence - here is your sixth place corps - it's final full practice run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq8-dgWNHyQ
  18. have zero idea what WILL happen - but HOPE Bluecoats will take it :)
  19. at age out ceremony it looked like about 5 pit, 5 battery, 5 mellos, 2 tuba, 7 trumpets, 1 DM, 8 baris and the rest guard, roughly 20 pretty typical age out year roughly a third of the corps
  20. I'm actually surprised Crown scored so high visually (other than guard) - intervals and forms were flawed compared to the other top 4 corps. I personally thought even SCV was cleaner drill-wise Crown's movement stuff was nicely done, and the guard was amazing. So I guess that balanced out... It just drives me wacko when on finals night there are major and frequent interval issues.
