  1. as an outsider - what's impressed me is their positivity and work ethic - this corps has been given a huge amount of musical and visual challenges and as I described in my Chambersburg review "swallowed the program whole" -- in the practice I witnessed extremely great energy, open mindedness & a boat load of talent. In my view if the Cadet design team writes a couple new even tougher segments and a very hard ending for the show THIS corps will absorb the changes just as quickly. Reminds me of the 2005 Cadets in terms of work ethic. And as we all remember THAT corps swept all captions and tied for the highest finals score ever... Again - all as an outsider. It's an impressive bunch. In a week they improved three weeks. By the end of June they look like the middle of July. Impressive indeed.
  2. I'm probably going to be shot for saying this but I still feel Cadets 2011 is the standard when it comes to incorporating electronics seamlessly into the music. Amazing effects: Here's just the pit opener from that year: http://youtu.be/mV8gUC05o6c
  3. normally I'd agree - but Cadets are a few points ahead of where they were last year in terms of execution and design - as are the Bluecoats...
  4. oh come on - spill the beans - how did you see it?
  5. hard to tell much from the scores with only five judges... I can't wait for full panels!
  6. I need to fly down to see SA this year I think, so many great shows. Love the entire top 5 and frank a ton more in the 14-6th place as well...
  7. what I meant - when we see them head to head with full panels. Folks getting a little too wrapped up in the scores this early on IMO
  8. different shows. We'll know at the regional, not before.
  9. not having the guard judge really helps Coats tonight - IMO - especially in comparison to Crown & Cadets
  10. gross exaggeration - it's a great show, but not mold busting
  11. Have you seen the show live? 90% of it has zero narration - just a few quick statements mostly while the corps is transitioning to the next tune or visually... I hated the idea of the show, but watching it really is effective
  12. wow you and I should go together lol - my exact plan at finals as well
  13. don't misunderstand my statement - I'm in no way saying the Cadets lack demand. I'm saying the corps has moved through the material given to them by the design team extremely quickly Cadets know how to max out a progam. I'd expect some additional drill demand in the middle portion, a few snips to speed things along a little, more stage time added for small ensemble/percussion, an ending added and a ton added to the guard book. Plus they have uniform changes coming for both the guard and the corps, show flags still to arrive - with all this they have a good shot at top 3 and/or winning BD also has a ton of demand. As does Crown. Effective is the question - right now Cadets are winning that aspect, time will tell and they still need to meet up with BD. Crown IMO loses that question right now. Coats need to add visual/guard demand. So with all that said Cadets could probably take the program as is and be top 4. With additions they have a much better shot of Top 2. With a lot of additions I'd think they'd be tough to catch - pending how they size up to BD
  14. if Cadets don't add a lot they will get passed by - IMHO
  15. http://youtu.be/9sb8X4AR_es Cadet Bass - learning the music
  16. Cadets battery is moved around A LOT. Especially DURING their features. I think it will take a little while for their feet to get completely under them. With the younger group.
  17. I think you're mixing up MY comment regarding the flu bug in context with Crown. Cadets have been sick and battling 2 injuries - but personally I think Coats battery has a much more mature presence and sound than Cadets right now. They may not beat them this season. Regardless - Bluecoats are the real deal. I'd love them to win it all this year.
  18. ok. Great judge. Saw Coats/Cadets live Friday night. Coats beating them in drums is zero surprise - their battery is excellent esp the snares.
  19. I don't recall any excuses. Link? We did "excuse" the Cadets beating Crown by only 1 point in drums on opening night due to two missing drummers and a flu bug. Coats are ahead in drums - VERY mature snare line and VERY good battery overall. It will be interesting to see if Cadets can close the gap or whether it will stick season-long
  20. I love Coats. But the swing is due to drum judge vs. no guard/brass judges -- the other night was guard judge, no drum judge. The GE scores are actually expanding in gap. Coats have my favorite show this year, but they are missing some content in guard and visual. I'm sure they'll be adding to the show in the next week or so.
  21. wouldn't be shocked to see Crown in 3rd - their gap last night with Regiment was worrisome.
  22. Bluecoats took drums over Cadets last weekend as well. Sort of the status quo right now.
  23. so - Cadets are knocking on 80 and Coats drums are taking it to them right now... The gaps are interesting - we see how last night's guard score being replaced by tonight's percussion score shrunk the gap I guess the next full panel show we'll know the actual margin... The small Coats gap is interesting though - Cadets were about 4 points ahead of Regiment last meeting. Crown was 2 points ahead of Regiment last night. Different shows & panels but that would incline me to believe that Coats have a good shot of taking out Crown Cadets GE scores are really something. Show is quite effective and the performance level and design quality is really being recognized by the judges
