  1. Cathy, SDCA is already an organization successfully doing what you are attempting to do. I have read that there is a region in your neighborhood. I'd like to see the two organizations work together. Why don't you contact them?
  2. No sorry..the arena dude is right. I saw it at a madison scout open house a few years ago. There was a display of many note books spread across three or four tables. these books had copies of all of the score sheets since I think the 50's. I looked at 68 and saw the royal aires flag penilty listed. without that penilty they would have won. If the madison scouts still have their open house go there and check it out.
  3. I was at DCA in Rochester NY and saw DCI's Dave Eddleman talking to SDCA's Chris Ferara. What is going on between the two organization? Anything? or was it just friendly conversation? Anyone hear anything about this?
  4. It doesn't look to me that DCI is G-7. George Hopkins is G-7. George is trying to pull the G-7 away just like Star of Indiana becoming "blast". DCI will lose them but still have OC corps.
  5. I don't know how you read all that in to it. I read that If there was no other way to go SDCA would give the OC a playing venue also I read that the OC would dictate what THEY wanted and I doubt they would want what they are getting right now!
  6. Just saw a similar thread on "open Class division" read Arena corps guys comments. pretty cool ! the title is G-7 and Open Class
  7. I think the G-7 thing is G-Hopkins. (coincidentally has 7 letters in his last name .. LOL) If George is successful in separating G-7 they will go on their own just like Star of Indiana did with "blast"; and DCI will continue with what is left.
  8. you also have to add shipping and handling to the DVD order. There is most of your cost. No S & H on a download.
  9. it is cool !! and both appeared in the SDCA show right after the parade. not together..and Americanos were solid!
  10. I've been watching...where are all of the corps that were interested last year?? I remember reading about a lot of interest and thought there would be a show or two out here by now.
  11. Just a heads up..I think to be in the DCA mini show you need to currently have or had a corps that participated in a DCA show. I remember the Vanguard Senior corps in competition..and the Royal Airs played in the Alumni show.
  12. Hey great ! check out the SDCA. I think they are in your area. it'll give you a chance to get the bugs out. Oh and post your schedule too.

  17. Nice article. Keep up the good work SDCA ! !
  18. I keep hearing about DCI’s five year plan. I’ve heard just about every interpretation and mythical quote, but where can I read about the details for myself. Is there a resolution to DCI’s bylaws or is this information coming from an annual meeting. Please don’t tell me what you’ve heard; tell me where I can get a copy or see it in print.
  19. I just saw the SDCA blog.I think they have the right idea. let the kids in free and then they get excited about being in local drum corps. Way to go SDCA ! ! !
  20. I like what the SDCA is doing. I think it answers your questions. , but it doesn't look like an overnight solution. their web site is www.theSDCA.org
  21. I started in drum corps in 1959. Raised in Chicago’s West side. My family was lower middle class. It was a rough neighborhood. If it wasn’t for drum corps I might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time ! ! Who knows.. what I do know is that if drum corps was the way it was today back then I could not afford to join. For that matter I could not even afford a ticket to watch. I see that drum corps has changed to the point that you have to come from an affluent family and be talented to be involved in the top 6 corps. My little Chicago corps took kids off of the street and taught them to play music. The corps was a neighborhood family. I learned discipline from that corps that I attribute to the successes in my life. We had only two buses and one equipment truck. Much more manageable then the now five buses and three semis. There is no way a community could support corps this large monetarily or personnel wise. From my perspective drum corps belongs in the communities. Even though we kids in the 60’s lacked formal music education we rocked the stadiums with sound and no matter what direction those kids turned adult went in they will always be in the Chicago Royal Airs and 1965 national Champions. It is sad to see that neighborhood corps have left the drum corps pattern. SDCA is trying to change that pattern and give neighborhood kids and adults the opportunity to be in a manageable drum corps. Look at their web site www.thesdca.org
