No posts in this thread since Friday....feels like the white flag has been waved by many. I haven't, but I'm less than excited as I watch my beloved Scouts stagnate while others soar. Looks to be a battle with the Mandarins this year......smh. so sad that the Scouts have fallen so far behind.

When it comes to using the mentioned college stadiums, there are many hurdles that have to be jumped through to use the facilities...the athletic department, the university....it's not a simple process. Also..this close to football season...good luck getting an AD to sign off on the use of a field with natural grass. Those grounds crew folks treat that grass like their baby and they take great pride in keeping it pristine.

Decent number for Scouts tonight. Well within striking distance of Stars and BAC. Every critique I've read says this show has all sorts of room to grow.

True....but truly epic shows get buzz talk going after one show. The people who ARE at these shows are saying very little.

Maybe I'm being impatient, but I'm bothered with how quiet folks are regarding the actual show. The costume caused such a stir, but little is being said about the show....was hoping for more positive hype from those outside the Scouts base.

I just want to know more about the show...in detail. Loud? Fast? Beautiful? Moving? As a fan does your heart race and leaves you needing it to never stop? Will it be iconic?......or is it fancy window dressings on a mobile home?

As a Scouts alum, I wish the superman suit would still be the thing. But I realize that to stay relevant and thrive in this activity, you have to adjust to the times. The dinosaur in me says "keep with tradition". But the realist in me wants the Scouts to once again be a corps that kids dream of marching instead of an afterthought or a stepping stone. Whether I, or other vets, like it or not, this is where we're at with DCI. And if you want to survive, you do what you have to. I'd rather my corps fall in line with what DCI has become and keep going than become irrelevant and ultimately shut down.

In the "Part 1" show teaser....am I the only one that read into it as describing the corps and not just the show, or not? Done on purpose? Coincide? Or am I being dumb and reading too much into the theme?

I'm hoping it will be adventurous and fun along the lines of the 97 Pirates show. My fear is a total change of style, sound, look....and not for the better. Basically, try so hard to break back into elite status that it becomes laughable and misses the mark badly. I'm excited to see what they have in store for us, but I'm also very nervous.

Hasn't been mentioned...unless I missed it....but Scouts will also be in a show-themed costume this year instead of traditional uniform.

SCV was the very last group....grand finale and ABC didn't even show them. I'd be so pi$$ed if I was an SCV parent, alum, member, fan. I watched them on the Home/Garden channel and they were awesome. But ABC?....nope, just skip the whole end of the parade.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there. I was watching the Macy's parade and just saw a Broadway performance that someone in DCI will no doubt do and I sooooo wish Scouts could be the first to pull it off, because it would be perfect. Paramour...the cirque du solei Broadway show. WOW....can't wait to have this soundtrack. And it is ABSOLUTELY right up Scouts ally.

Don't get me wrong, I love Latin shows. But a strong consensus seems to be for Scouts to do something different. Push their limits and break away from what has previously been done. Scouts have certainly made a mark with Latin shows, but I'd like something other than latin or jazz...I think Scouts could blow you away with a show that resembles Pirates from 97, PR Sparticus and the like. So many possibilities with costuming, props and all the other "stuff" that judges seemingly have to have.

I've said in previous years that I'd love to see Scouts do something with strong, powerful and intense classical music along the lines of Gladiator. Doesn't have to be soundtrack exactly, but along those lines.

Never said Coats won BECAUSE of gimmicks..but they have had gimmicks that have worked great.

Madison Scouts will have an 8-10 placement show and finish 14th..beat out by BDB.

Not interested in Finals since Scouts are out, so we move on. Ya'll know discussions have already taken place. So where do we go from here? Show thoughts and/or wishes? For me, ya gotta go for broke. Find something the DCI/WGI/BOA folks have never seen. Heck, find a gimmick. Gimmicks work for Coats. Anyway...I've moved on. Hope my other Scouts alums and fans have too.

I'm not belittling the marching members or even the staff for that matter. I'm belittling DCI for what we all see with politics and biasis.

Time to become a pretentious WGI/BOA hybrid. Load the field with broadway props, put on neon pink body suits and totally sell out. SMH....real drum corps is dead.

Folks called it before prelims. Unbelievable.

Absolutely sick to my stomach to see comments from other DCI fans to the effect of "I hope Scouts don't make finals" When did The Men become so hated and why? I never in my life thought I'd see fans vocally hoping for Scouts to fail. We were the rockstars of DCI. We were the crew the fans would viciously boo the judges for when we'd get snubbed. Wow...makes me so sad.
