  1. if they can hold off Cavies and Phantom they are on their way to their highest placement in modern drum corps
  2. Blue Stars having a really good run - hopefully being on early in the show doesn't prove to be an excuse for the judges to slot them low --
  3. The corps that are designing their shows around narrated stories are attempting to push the boundaries out to evolve a new activity and move closer to an indoor, staged musical theater experience. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something - Electronics and sound reinforcement have been great tools for performing inside dome stadiums but we don't need to evolve the activity into something it was never intended. What really burns my biscuits is the marching members are paying thousands of dollars to perform a challenging book - and this is the best book these designers can provide? The DCI activity doesn't exist solely for professional creative designers - it's about the audience, the music and the performers on the field -- when the designers give the members a weak book that's a bad reflection on those designers - they are being selfish - OR: the designers should pay members to stroke their egos and march their BOA career-enhancing productions - I've been going back and listing to shows from the 80s and 90s and the quality of the books is head and shoulders above what's performed today - I truly feel sorry for members today -- I appreciate that no designer wants to do another Bernstein show or another Copeland show or Fiddler on the Roof for the 6th time - but come on people -- it's obvious the the musicality and lyric quality is not there anymore - like someone said in another thread shows have become like Olympic figure skating programs - string together the requisite number of tricks to get the reward from the judges - sorry - that is not very impressive. AI could do a better job of that - Designers need to get back to programming musical shows - 4 songs that don't suck, as my friend used to say - 2016 was a great year of entertaining musical shows -- we need to get back to that again -- unfortunately it's up to the designers and the judges. If they are going to continue down this current WGI narration trend, I would recommend that young musicians take their talents to better places.
  4. Crossmen have an enjoyable show - interesting new costume - but corps retains the Crossmen style and sound -- I appreciate that -- Cool prop -- Phantom has been the crowd favorite at my IP location -- thank you for being recognizable - especially like the drum book - very beefy - very good drill -- amplification is not getting in the way - show sounds good on flo -- one drawback is the dude costume in the coed guard - does not add to the overall guard package Blue Stars have a very nice music book - it's also neat to see how they are using props that have been used in previous shows stretching back at least to 2009? (The Factory) -the horn/drum sound is very much in keeping with the sound the corps has developed over the years -- the props are also keeping with the Blue Stars visual look/identity - I appreciate that there is that connection with the corps identity --
  5. looking at the size of the crowd at DeKalb, it looked like many people are voting with their pocketbooks. In defense of the OP, satire and humor are often more effective means of persuasion than pedantic polemic. I remember everything --
  6. This is great satire! Thank you!!! To your lamented remembrance of what once was the activity I am prompted to reply with a quote Blue Knights 2019 I remember everything Those days will return again - we're just going through a bit of a rough patch coming out of the pandemic - I think the show designers will get recallibrated and marching members will once again enjoy challenging books that they will look back on and remember with pride. And we should give credit to the shows that are throwing down challenging books - especially Phantom, Blue Stars and Crossmen - Bluecoats should be ashamed of the book they are asking their members to perform.
  7. Why isn't Crown playing the slotting game here? https://dci.org/scores/rankings
  8. Don't look now but the Blue Stars are on their way to their highest DCI finals placement in the modern era!!! Just watched a bootleg from Drums on in Madison -- Wow!!!! they are not going to be denied by Blue Knights this year - I'm sensing 6th/7th here people.... Congrats to an organization that has stayed with it and not given up -- have maintained their own unique style and have built a solid organization. FCO!
  9. Hi - sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - but could I get an ID on where the source material for the narration is from? Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance? Trout fishing in America?
  10. Wow! With a faculty & staff of 92 members you've got the start of a nice Div II corps!
  11. To make a hockey analogy current dci season is like a college hockey season - play 2x per week — compared to what used to be an NHL season - lots of games really dampens the iterative vibe
  12. just reiterating the point -- we live in a broken, imperfect world bad things happen to good people it will always be this way the bad actions of one individual should not require an organization to be eliminated address this problem, remove the problem learn from the past experience and move forward trying to be better grow and improve it's an iterative process if we only follow our knee jerk instinct to eliminate an organization that has made a mistake or hurt someone, all we're left with is nothing -- because if judged only by the pain of individual victims hurt by bad attitude doctors within an organization ultimately every organization will need to be eliminated because at some point every organization causes pain to someone. yes - be shocked yes - be angry at bad people who hurt others yes - demand change no - eliminate well-intentioned organizations that have ever caused pain to someone in the past preemptive strike - I am not saying that historically evil painful organizations should be allowed to continue to exist
  13. Thanks for doing this - I'm looking forward to seeing the fruit of your labor -- other than the dci web site, is there another website or app that lists the show schedule?
  14. Looks great! I would assume the facilities people know what they are doing - people take college football very seriously in ATL - I'm sure it will be a great venue for DCI too!
