  1. One thing I am thankful for this year with Flo is the replays from earlier shows --
  2. I don't know... 4 out of 5 past shows have been rock and roll shows -- Do they really need to push the envelope? They have proven that they are the best in the game at sound reinforcement - I think they could take what they have sound-wise and go back and try to create something really excellent visually -- the prop intensive, dance focus, run from here to there design is getting kind of cliche. I'm thinking some really precise marching and movement where the focus is not on individuals but on the strength of the whole. Bluecoats have not had a really impressive percussion section over the past few shows -- what has happened there? Why has percussion writing become an afterthought? I can see the judges getting tired of the Bluecoats next year if they remain on current trend.
  3. Did Boston get their Power Rangers costumes on Amazon? After Halloween sale? Really cheap looking --
  4. the audio is just fine - the A team is on the scene for Indy
  5. How can we have overlooked the obvious answer!!! https://xtremebrass.com/store/educational-books-and-dvds/sound-mixing-and-audio/spectacular-sound-mixing-for-stage-stadium-and-arena/
  6. just went back and listened to Marion show and then Centerville show -- the audio for Cavaliers at Marion was totally messed up - then switched over and listened to Phantom at Centerville and it was very good --
  7. hopefully next season fans periscope on twitter -- if there was ever a case for civil disobedience.... This is it!
  8. There is so much live sound/technical design talent in the corps - couldn't the corps meet with Flo technical teams and discuss how they can put out a better product? If it's just a matter of using the wrong types of mics or mic placement, couldn't the issues be addressed and corrected? There have been times in the past when the audio quality on the streams has been good -- what has happened this year that the audio on the streams is so bad? Are the Flo engineers using a different streaming device that handles the audio differently/lower quality?
  9. Did 1989 Spirit perform the section Crown did of Interstellar Suite in 2014? yes
  10. DeKalb... if a stadium could speak... think of the thousands of performances since the 70s (were there shows there prior to the 70s?) The hey day of Drum Corps Midwest - two nights semi/finals competition in July for DCM Championship -- Great memories!

  12. I had an epileptic seizure from the tv screens -- what happened?
  13. I was at Cavaliers rehearsal last night 8/4 in Burnsville MN - I saw them on Friday 7/30 in La Crosse - their show is markedly better since then -- Marching/drill is still a bit dirty in areas - but the final drill passage of the closer is stunning. One thing I don't like about the show is the scat singing during the snare solo as well as the guard soloists in front of the tenors during the tenor feature. The sound engineering is really good -- from being at rehearsal last night I got to see how they adjust the mic levels for soloists -- it's really cool to see how they can dial in and get levels just right -- Some really good soloist work - front line - excellent, very expressive, especially good aux and set players, really enjoyed the synth electric guitar effect - very cool battery - amazingly clean, you can hear them at all times - not hidden or covered up horns - very well balanced, excellent in all sections -- Visual - I really like how they stay between the platforms on the 30s - drill is compact and keeps you focused - The singing at the start of the show made a bit more sense once I figured out what they were singing about - I wish they would have been able to pull off actual singing -- the singing at the start of the closer is very nice - trombone soloist/soli with mello and trumpet is excellent. Sing sing sing is ok - not as good as 90 Bluecoats - but ok - like I said, the scat singing during the snare solo takes away from what the snares are doing -- The final drill and music passage are fantastic!!! The balance between the corps and the electronics is very good -- electronics do not overpower the corps and it sounded good, well balanced, clear, transparent -- just clear loud and incredibly in tune.
  14. 1 Blue Stars - most complete show of the night 2 Phantom good horn line some nice marching moments 3 Cavies - loud horns - but not much of a show concept 4 Colts - very nice horn line and drums - show concept immature - should be programming more serious material 5 Madison - horn line not very strong -- they play nicely but lack fullness and force - lots of body work - would like more straight ahead marching 6 River City Rhapsody - some nice drum moments - horn line has potential 7 Colt Cadets - mature group - very good small corps -- Overall fun night - but these shows are at 75-80% of normal show - guards noticeably less proficient than normal due to lack of practice. I really hope corps can continue building on this --
  15. Crowd loved the loud!!! Serious question: Why does each corps need to provide to their own generator?
  16. could anyone give me a quick review of the show themes tonight? PR - I think I understand they're doing some of their old classics Cavies - rock show experience, live music venue, boy band? Madison - normal Madison latin jazz? Blue Stars - how did they get rights to a current broadway show? Colts - more 70s pop? River City Rhapsody - scenes from the Office and IT crowd Colt Cadets - 90s techno?
  17. Live drum corps tonight! Should be a great kick off show for the 2021 tour! Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex - UW La Crosse 400 East Ave. N. LaCrosse, WI 54601 7:30 PM Welcome & National Anthem 7:40 PM River City Rhythm - Anoka, MN 7:55 PM Colt Cadets - Dubuque, IA 8:10 PM The Cavaliers - Rosemont, IL 8:25 PM Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL 8:40 PM Intermission 8:50 PM Madison Scouts - Madison, WI 9:05 PM Colts - Dubuque, IA 9:20 PM Blue Stars - La Crosse, WI
