  1. The hair tie keeps the slides from sliding around with all the other horn movements that are common these days. The hair ties go around the base of the rings and don't put any weird torque on the rings themselves.
  2. High-brass, especially trumpets, hold the 3rd valve slide out when horns are down and bring it in as they go to horns up and it causes a snapping noise. I believe you can do it with mellophones but it's a little more difficult, I don't remember doing it often but it was possible and I think it was the first valve slide. The bigger horns are just the valves being released as the horns are going up. They cause more of a thud as opposed to a ping/click sound the high brass horns make. Contras might even be the horn hitting their shoulders. Some members can really move those things.
  3. Shadow- St. Elmo High School Music City- ? Pacific Crest- Lebanon High School The Academy- ? Phantom Regiment- Show site Carolina Crown- Freeburg Community High School I can't find any information on The Academy or Music City. Are either of them closer to St. Louis?

  5. It's Velcro. Spirit and Crossmen both had similar mirror emblems and both were held on by a similar piece of Velcro. My guess is they didn't want to break any before the first competition since they're extremely fragile.

  8. 2003-2005 weren't half bad looking either. I liked those uniforms but they were short lived
  9. Having worn both long sleeved and short sleeves uniforms (the 2010 original one) they aren't too much cooler. Keep in mind most corps are in "halves" until right before troop and Scouts are in this the entire time. Also, you're so focused on mentally preparing yourself that it's the last thing on your mind.
  10. Any information on past documentaries? I know for a corps to get 1 or 2 copies remade would probably cost more than it would bring in but any other ways of finding past documentaries before resorting so other ways such as torrents? Rather give the corps a bit of money than get it free.
  11. Question about this documentary and others that are being or have already been release: Where can people buy them? Obviously most corps sell them on their souvenir stands. Do they sell them on their corps web shop?
  12. It was on ESPN for a few years, that makes it a sport, right? I would say, yes, it is a sport. Similar to figure skating, gymnastics, or synchronized swimming. It's not a sport where there is an offense or defense, instead you score your points by meeting a set criteria.
  13. Can't we all just get along?! but honestly... It's not really about us (unless current members are reading this thread right now and in that case, go to bed you have finals tomorrow!) but it's about the members. Crown winning doesn't earn Crown fans a ring and a medal and I don't think any random fans have ever received either of these things from any of BD's numerous wins in the past. While I agree it can be frustrating watching the scores and not really agreeing with them, for one reason or another, I can't do anything about it besides watch each corps perform the hell out of each of their shows that they've been perfecting for the past 3 and respond with how I personally feel I should respond to each show.
  14. they only have to do it once, then edit it into the dvd's. it did look really cool! and i was thinking fog machine or something too!
  15. up votes are the currency of DCP... i dont see why people bash any corps. they're all young students doing the thing many of us here have done and some could only possibly dream of doing side note, its funny watching dcp and dci slow down each night (especially regional nights) when people are all trying to see scores
  16. How close do these early spreadsheets end up being to finals scores/placements? I'm assuming as the weeks go by the accuracy increases
  17. Troop was the first corps to give me chills at drums on parade this year and they even performed after a corps I was a member of. Hopefully that staff they've assembled will do amazing things for Troop like most if them have done with the Scouts!
  18. There's a month left of the season and most corps haven't even really had "change camps" yet or are just have and still aren't comfortable with the changes. In 2010, we took the week between San Antonio and Atlanta to make our changes. Why do people keep saying things like "well corps a has maxed out the show, better luck next time" the season is just getting going and the shows are finally getting good. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the shows and hope the best for all groups the final month of summer
  19. When was the last time the Scouts broke 90? I know 2010 they peaked around 89, have they been any closer since? Will they do it this year?
  20. why not go to a show and talk to some of the instructional staff? they could give you better advice than you could get here
