  1. ......no.... I should be writing my last evidence synthesis paper....
  2. THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! I HOPE WE CAN EVEN MAKE FINALS THIS Y.....oh... what?.... really?.... we beat Cavies last night?.... hmm.... neat... *climbs out of bomb shelter, brushes self off, and walks away whistling "American in Paris"*
  3. I think there's something to be said for the fact that clips that are put out there of PR are most often big powerful ballad moments. Other corps get a lot of clips of them warming up playing the technical parts of the show and that's cool and yea, sure, regiment may not have too awful many of those, but they've still managed to do what regiment does best. Personally I think this is the best show they've put out in the last couple years (and I marched in the last couple years). Regardless of placement, Regiment is still Regiment. My experience performing with PR was everything I had hoped for and more even though we placed "poorly". I think that is what's important. Unless you're a vet who's been there a really long time, you don't know what the administration is doing or why and frankly you don't care. It's about making the most of your experience. I trusted that the staff working to give me a good experience and I was not disappointed.
  4. He may also mean that it's "unrecognizable" as in "unrecognizable as a musical melodic structure". Similar to how people complained that BD didn't play much "recognizable music" between '09-12, just a bunch of stuff hodge-podged together.
  5. I was really excited to see Coats show this year. Although hesitant due to the show being about "noise" (bad connotation for me when discussing music) I was ready to see them build on last years innovative use of electronics. Unfortunately, I feel like they went WAAAAYYY too far with it. There was some neat stuff in there for sure, but overall I felt like I was being screamed at for 12 minutes, especially in the opener. I would've preferred to see them find different ways to use just the horns to portray some of the ideas instead of relying 100% on what a button can do. I hope they find a way to tone it down a bit to be less intrusive and shrill so they can expose the talent of the members more, but as it stands Im kinda disappointed.
  6. My first reaction was "oh heck naw, if they use a storybook imma cut someone!" (Aka PR 2013). Haha But seriously I'm pretty excited to see what they do with this. I think "ink" evokes a certain feeling within us artistic types, symbolizing creativity and passion for art. For those of us in the drum corps world, we should certainly be able to relate to this. It has the nostalgic feel that makes us feel like kids with wonder and imagination in our eyes. I relate it to how much people loves the "tale of 2 brothers" part of the last Harry Potter movie. It was "ink" and everyone went WILD for that part.
  7. It's true that in the Phantom Regiment is very strict. It has military roots plus we are VERY rooted in tradition, so it makes sense that it would have a "regimented" style. Did I ever, once in a while, get tired of how serious things were all the time? Sure. Do i regret a single second of it? NOPE! Being in the Regiment taught me how to push through the hardest, most difficult moments of my life with strength, courage, and poise, even when I thought it was impossible. Being a part of such a rich tradition and a true family is also a pretty awesome perk. All it takes is a "SUTA" to be best friends with someone you've never met. Not saying that Cavies won't do the same thing for you, but I can only speak to the Regiment side. We may not get 10-minute water breaks and a million full free days, but it makes you feel pretty hardcore knowing what you were able to accomplish over the summer. I wouldn't trade it for anything. You just have to decide which style fits you or will help you the most. I wasn't used to being pushed so hard. My style and personality very well may have fit better at Cavies, but being at Regiment helped me in areas of my life that I needed help in. I'm more confident, bold, and resilient than i thought I ever could be thanks to the Regiment.
  8. PR 2004... that book is NUTS! Runs happening over totally different runs on syncopated rhythms. So much fun to listen to. Very talented hornline!
  9. Turandot in 2012 started pretty heavy hitting. 2008 kinda did too.
  10. Idk if this has been brought up yet, but there's a pit part that sounds identical to a part from a past show (Godfather:Part Blue, maybe?) and I can't for the life of me figure out what it's from. It's around the 7:40 mark on the Stanford video.
  11. The dangly things looked like that last year at first too. They have cut and tied them off yet... and the gauntlets weren't the same size last year either. It's the way the sleeve is designed. The gauntlet is built into the sleeve.
  12. Musically, I think that PR 2004 is one of the most challenging books I've ever heard. It may not be as clean as Crown 13, but holy cow there's a lot going on in that one, especially the Euph part in the opener! Blows me away every time.
  13. I heard that the guy who stepped off early in BD's 2008 show got a tattoo that read "0.025"
  14. It's true that most shows prior to '05 didn't have a "story" (except '82 and '88), but that was almost 10 years ago. That's a long time in drum corps years considering how much the activity has changed since then. It's now part of their identity. Many corps don't seem to stick to an identity anymore and it's nice to see PR sticking to theirs..... also interesting to note that before '81 corps never even had themes. It was just a random mix of songs. People thought PR was nuts and look where it took the activity. Not saying this is related to anything currently being discussed. just a fun fact.
  15. Why does a corps have to change for you to keep liking them? I love PR BECAUSE we always do stories and big beautiful classical music. It's our identity and I wouldn't want it any other way. I love getting my heart ripped out and torn to pieces by a drum corps show. No one else does that. This past season may not have been as "successful" as other seasons, but being a part of it was everything I ever dreamed it would be. I don't care in the slightest how we placed because I was able to be a part of the emotional journey that is a Phantom Regiment show.... just my 2 cents.
