  1. Haha well the music was very good from Academy - just it wasn't anything fresh to me. Good sound and great pieces but it gets old hearing the same pieces thats all. :) Yes, I think effect would not be altered if the males wore pants. Its just silly and distracting.
  2. Hey, I went to Thunder in Desert last night to see the annual Drum corps show, was with a madison scout guard alum and a person not affiliated with drum corps. They used to have the show in Midland when I marched but was taken over by a local high school band in the area in Odessa. Great stadium with great acoustics for drum corps!! My seats were great also they do open seating which is a great idea, my seats were on the 50, 3 rows from the top. Genesis- Kinda bummed that I missed this show because I heard good things and it is ran by some people I used to march with from back in the day. I did however hear them from the gate and they sounded great and had a very fan-friendly show. People seemed to really enjoy them. SCVC- Really impressed by this corps! Love the uniforms both in the guard and corps. Great show about shakra - didnt mind the amp'd voice at all - added to the shows GE IMO. Great sound - and the corps seemed to really have a quite difficult show too. Crowd really loved the drum feature. Revolution- Great opening statement - smaller brass line then SCVC but about the same volume if I remember correctly. They use a synth which replaces the sound of the low brass pretty much, it made the opening statement sound really balanced. After that I started actually started to get really disappointed they have a girl that just walks around the field in a black cloak the hole time and has no real purpose that I can see. The flags dont match the music at all - they had "ballad type flags" throughout the show and ended up being really distracting to me and the guard folk I was with. The ending was interesting but just did not flow throughout. I actually expected a larger spread between them and SCVC. On the flip side the drum line was very good and saw very few drops from the guard. Cascades- there is a definite change in sound and professionalism from this corps then the last few. They start out playing ball and skipping around in a park type setting which was very cute. They had a great sound and really enjoyed their show. First standing O of the night. Pac Crest- First real hit of the night for sure the crowd really was impressed by them, I absolutely loved the show - bright colors, neat visual effects, and the maze theme was def throughout. Awesome sound too!! I really enjoy their marching technique its very old BK/cavie-esk. Mandarins- I always enjoy this corps - it seemed like they picked up a few more brassline members because there were 4-5 brass members standing on the back line. It was very cohesive as far as GE and the color pallette across the guard unis, flags, and corps unis were very pleasing to the eye - bland to probably many but it is nice to see that you dont have to be bright and crazy to be good. Enjoyed this corps - it seemed though their drill was very dirty. Academy- Great corps, man I dont remember them being this good when I marched but amazing sound and def the loudest of the night. The guard starts off in a long red dress with long sleeves - and the male guard members are wearing these too. I cant say that this was a good choice because all I was thinking during the first part until they took them off was "how embarrassing for them". So that prob should be changed. Anyway very good show though they played tunes I have heard before and nothing really stood out as far as impressing the crowd goes - they do the whole crown leg moves thing which came across nicely but it was an obvious knock off if you follow drum corps any. Great sound though I do remember that. All in all a great night - good to see drum corps this far out west in Texas!! Thanks guys!!
