Their percussion is really good with a staff they’ve had for a long time. The rest of the corps is averaging about 8th place.

Didn't see a thread for these guys yet, thought I'd start one. Excited to see what they're up to next week when they're on the Night Beat Flo cast. Glad they're doing what they need to do touring regionally, want to see them stick around! They're scoring pretty solid, broke 70 tonight. Anyone caught them yet?

Wow. Those are some big jumps! Southwind putting up some really respectable numbers, excited to see that show.

If anyone here is going, this stadium has some of the worst parking and logistics of any show I have been to. Give yourself time, I missed the first three corps in 2019 trying to get to the stadium. They also misnumbered seats that year. There’s an elementary school close by that has some hidden parking I have used when I went.

Okay I’ll bite! First of all, again, I think the “you’re not a judge” pot shot is always an easy one to make. I’m a young part of the music education world and designing some. Am I an expert? HELL NO! Do I have some personal observations and opinions about the peak of the activity I am going to spend the rest of my life working in? Yes. I think I can. Just like you or anyone else. It’s so boring if we just silence ourselves from expressing what we see and hear Can Cadets finish 5th? Absolutely. They’re close. If they do it, it will be on the strength of their music performance captions and eeking out some more Music GE points. They’re playing amazingly well in brass and drums and move pretty well. The opener is amazing and the first ballad soloist is one of the best of the year. I like the show a lot. Do I think Mandarins and Phantom Regiment have better products? Yes. Can Cadets make changes to be more competitive with those two shows? Yes. But the foundation is weaker than those two. The theme and overall through thought is not very apparent besides “look how athletic we are” and the Atlas thing in the second ballad (I’ve read and watched all the videos before I get linked those). The pacing movement to movement is really jerky, especially into Corynorhinus. The drill makes them look small. The props are just there and look very much props for props sake, the transition of them into the Zimmer ballad and lack of interaction with them is not very well conceived. Versus PR and Mandarins who IMO have the best prop usage and integration of the season. They have a ton of variety, orientations, effective staging within the drill, and effect. Those two shows also flow VERY well musically and visually and feel like a complete and total thought from conception through what you see on the field. The intent is always incredibly clear. I like Cadets show a lot, but I have the personal opinion that it’s a 7th place show this season. I’ll also take it over anything since 2014. There you go 🫡

Bluecoats were 4th in drums here last year, lots of season left. And they’re a placement higher with a 1st in guard.

Staying in that 10-12 grouping for Atlanta is exactly what they need. Still a ton of room to grow. I think this is the first time they’ve been ranked top 12 at a regional! Huge!

Southwind scoring well, I still think they should have made semis last year.

Find it interesting with all the BD dominance talks and talks of record breaking that the spreads beneath them are about a half a point closer than they were last year at this time and they lost a lot more subcaptions. 9 this year versus 4 last year. Are they still dominant and probably gonna go undefeated? Absolutely. Consistently 1-3 in all captions is gonna do that when everyone below them in the rest of the top 4 has subs as low as 5th - 8th. But maybe a few more cracks this year than last year. They’re amazing at what they do as always. BAC got REALLY close last year and is closing in again like they did Atlanta week 2022. I’m feeling a little competitive tension at the top.

I read a recap and have a personal opinion. Cry about it. I was pretty spot on tonight. Cadets scored really well in brass and percussion but are lacking in GE and Visual. It’s pretty obvious.

Would be amazing. Two years in a row winning a performance caption would put a lot of the GE reliance haters to bed. If the show clicks, watch out!

I'm not too worried. 8/10 judges had Mandarins over cadets in content/repertoire and 7/10 had Phantom Regiment over Cadets in the same sub captions. Cadets are performing a weaker show very well. Weaker is relative, it's not bad by any means. But I think it's pretty clearly the 7th best show on the field this summer.

Once is a flash, twice at the southwest regional, holy ####. Absolute monsters. That team has been together a long time and has cranked out some monster sections before so I shouldn't be surprised, but hot ####. McIntosh and crew take a freakin bow. Sanford leaders right now.

They did it, well deserved. Such a well rounded production and performers.
