  1. Well this is my senior year so Im working with a local professor at the college im going to, and also I have a garanteed job at my moms work this coming summer, and Ill make enough money to take a plane out to CA to try out for BDs if I wanted to, so what i'm thinking is that this year I really need to perfect, and come freshman year at College as a Music Edu Major then I'll determine if I have time or not, cause I'll have 15-17 hours in my schedule and the program takes 5 yrs to complete also, so I'm debating on my freshman year or my sophmore year.
  2. In yalls view, would it probably be best to work on it consistantly over the next year or so, get my Band Director(s) to watch and evaluate it? (one of the marched Troopers) Probably a dumb question, but gotta ask to make sure it's not a screw up
  3. Thankyou, that makes a WHOLE lot more sense, when I popped my knee out like ya said my toe kinda did more of a point, I think when I was trying it before I was keeping my foot to flat. Sounds DANG hard to make it! Oh well, as my former Section Leader of ages ago (we called him Booger or Boog for short) always said, "if you don't go all out, balls to the wall, then you arn't a real trumpet player."
  4. So over the past few days of fan networking I have found "my corps" and I would really like to tryout for the cavies. Here's my question, they have a very different marching technique from what i've done for the past 3 now 4 years. At my school it's a bit of a cross, when we march forward, between Cavies bycicle step and PRs straight leg. Frontal marchin ain't hard at all to change I know that for sure. Anyways, when we march backwards we are fully straight legged and up on our toes. My question is, how hard was it to learn a new backwards marching style like this if you had to change your style? Because I kind of figured when I tryout in the next 2 years I don't need to be trying to perfect it over a month, but rather go in there after a year or 2 practicing it on my own spare time and then perfect it, if that makes sense? So i'm just curious how long it took you to change, if it's really worth it, and if you can explain how to bicycle step backwards that would be appreciated, cause right now I'm kinda choppy and jerky when my foot rolls flat. Thanks!
  5. I won't lie I got up and left once during a shows performance, I was always told before my first performance to leave whenever it's not Crown or Devs. So I was rooting for crown since all I had known was what my friends told me and what I saw on YouTube. Anyways so I watched some shows in 2009 and no offense but I was turned away, I had never known about synths being used in shows, so I was disgusted and never watched like I shouldve. Now that I have had the fan network for like 5 days now? I sometimes go back and watch parts and pieces. It's kinda like how my freshman year my high school program had a really down year, and I mean down year! and I still watch that show just for the show design and all, then when we became state champions 2 yrs after I still watch the lesser of the shows sometimes. Perhaps there could be only designated times when people could leave, but between those times you arnt allowed to leave except for like a bathroom break or whatever? Anyways now I wish I hadn't walked out, cause live performances are good unless you're some sucky 20 man high school band from the booneys of Louisiana. (im just kidding no need to flame me cajuns) I saw every performance live for my first time at MTSU, except I missed the Scouts, wish I hadn't now. I still find people who get up and leave to be rude and inconciderate.
  6. mmk cool, I was just hoping that when I go tryout for them in the next 2 yrs that there isn't some secret height requirement that I don't know about. And on the BDs mentioning I don't like them, my disclaimer, I liked em pre 90's and in 2003 and that's about it. Other than that I just plain don't like em and I refuse to be cited for ever liking them predominately. My friends and I are that way about it. (Although I do agree that in 2008 they should've been in 1st, but I find that in 2009 Crown had the better show)(D### their utter perfection!!!)
  7. Oh ok, that makes alot of sense, see there, the DCP keeps me from jumping to conclusions
  8. Im not accusing anybody of anything at all, please don't flame me at all because I love all corps (except blue devils I liked em pre 90's) I've never auditioned or marched DCI so forgive me if I'm out of line. Here's my question Whenever I hear about corps I hear about people coming back with tans and 6 or 8 packs and fed on a 4000 calorie diet. However I am a big time Cavaliers fan and everything along with being a fan of every other corps out there (except BDs) so forgive me for asking but whenever I look at them they all look the same in height and in size they look identical. To where I could say they could all buy the same size of pants and save money. Im just curious, but along with all male, when they select people, does height have anything to do with it??? (forgive me for asking) and also they are all super fit looking, what is their fitness regiment like? (once again i'm a big time cavalier fan so please don't flame me for asking, it's just that It kinda pondered me when I watched Machine)
  9. At my high school I believe it is possible to get both, as with high school you'll never have Drum Corps good in both marching and music. Anyways our ballad was Cannon and people (a football crowd) got up and cheered and litterally cried from the hornline & color guards performance. I don't believe it is proper for me to post my high schools name/name of our band on here, but if you would like to see a video PM me and ill send ya a link. Anyways on another note, when you do high school band you're super proud of it no matter what, but then when you spend 6 months watching Cavalier drill and listening to Crowns hornline then what may be a superb performance for high school looks/sounds like ####. My mom nearly washed my mouth out with soap for denouncing spots in the video
  10. Did I say "Football Field?" I really ment "The band's field"
  11. Just ordered one for a grand total of $17.51 after tax, should be here in like a week in a half. On the waste of money, I think it is if you play in alot of concert settings cause you can do it while sitting in a chair. Though alot of my playing is done on a football field, so when we march with horns only no playing I would prefer to buzz at times going from set to set. Cause when it gets cold, playing then not playing then playing again kills my chops.
  12. thanks! I think i'll be tryin to get one
  13. One of my Directors said this one day at practice last year, "Come on guys! Try to sound like the Blue Devils, but with quality!" @jwillis35 Yeah for my line up of it all, I have Devs and Cavies duking it out for 1st, Maybe Crown in the top 3, I see HNC in 4th and Coats in 5th with SCV/PR fighting for 6th.
  14. YOUR THE BD FAN CHIMING IN?!?!?!?!?!?!? MY Mind just exploded
  15. What shows were they? What team? and you're beating a mile around the bush.
