  1. . I was extremely overjoyed when I read the announcement that the corps will be playing in concert at the Field of Dreams at Hoopes Park on Fri May 27th.This event has grown leaps and bounds and I'm confident it will be an annual event. The Purple Lancers will undoubtedly start a tradition of being an integral part of the festivities. This acceptance to perform will enhance the support of the community in future fund raising events that will benefit the Lancer organization.I pray for great weather and I can't wait to see and be ever proud of the presence of the corps at a function that memorializes deceased family members and friends. We must also not forget the deceased veterans who have given up their lives so that we can experience the freedom that we all enjoy today. This is what MEMORIAL DAY is all about. Many kudos and thank you go out to the staff who worked so hard in securing a place and function for the Purple lancers in this worthwhile community affair .
  2. Last evening I witnessed great pereformances by Capital Brass!, Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni, Ghost Riders and of my hometown Purple Lancers. As like last year, Capital Brass performed a variety of songs that the audience recognized and embraced.Tom MacDonald has his group always ready to put forth their best effort. It showed last evening with a great performance. The Brig's played two of their famous signature songs, "Shangra La" and "Black Saddle" along with other songs.. Many Brig's Alumni in the audience including myself recaptured the memories of those two famous tunes. Of course the Ghost Riders did'nt loose a beat as to why they are mini corps champions. Extraordinary group of musician under the direction of Donny Allen who himself showed his marvelous solo renditions. As a member of the lancers in the 70's Donny played with Carl Campanola for which last evenings concert was dedicated. He honored Carl's rememberence and also his fond memories of when he played with the Lancers by joining the corps on stage for the last performance of the evening. His solo renditions where extremely captivating. Finally, and without fanfare the Purple lancers came out on stage with approximately 35 horns which was the surprize of so many including yours truly. It must also be told that the horn line consisted of many Syracuse Brig's alumni and St Joes'Alumni. What a sight to see all these musicians join ranks for one common cause and that's to exemplify cooperation, sportmanship and the unity that I feel is necessary these days to keep the great sound of drum corps alive and well so the general public will always remember its past. As a former Brig(57-58-59), A Lancer in (56) and past Lancer president (08-09-10), My sincere gratitude goes out to all the groups who made the concert last evening ever so memorable. It goes without saying that the old motto of "united we stand, divided we fall" is so prevelent today when it comes to the existance of drum corps as we all know it..
  3. The Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps are very interested in making contact with a person or persons who were at the "Pageant of the Drum" Competition in Cicero, NY on August 14th, who were able to video tape the Lancers in their concert formation along with coming onto the field in review? Anyone who has some knowledge of our request please go to our site for contact numbers or send email. (www.auburnpurplelancers.com). Also anyone with such information please submit through this forum. We would deeply appreciate any response in regards to this matter. Its important to the organization to acquire such a video to place in our archives ,because it was the first time in 36 years that the Lancers took the field for an exhibition performance at a competition event. Richard (Dick) Gagliardi President Brigs '57,'58, '59 Lancers '56
  4. Thank you John Vona and all your parade committee members for another outstanding Italian Festival Parade .As usual the crowd was hearthwarming and the food was fantastic. It was nice to meet up with old drum corps friends from Prime Time Brass, Hit Men and St Joe's. As always those three musical groups put on a great crowd pleasing show. The Purple Lancers are looking forward to being invited again next year. Next up for the Lancers is the Sauerkraut festival in Phelps NY on August 7 then on to our final event of the summer season an exhibition at the Pageant of the Drum in Cicero.NY
  5. The Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps are looking forward to Marching in the State American Legion Convention Parade in Syracuse NY this Friday Night starting at 6:30 down Salina St. The Purple Lancers pride themselves in having the traditional color guard (flags and rifles). We are anticipating on having a minimum of 7 different flags with rifles. There was nothing more patriotic and comforting years ago in seeing those flags coming down a street with the main corps body behind..The Lancers will strive in its outings to always secure a position in its performances with multi flags and rifles. This will be our Trade Mark. Its time to bring back the old tradition of drum corps..
  6. The Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps were delighted to be part of the fantastic parade and concert show. The weather was perfect and the number of musical groups were outstanding . Thank you Cape Vincent in allowing us to be part of your French Festival celebration. We truly hope you enjoyed our performance. Hoping to return again next year. We would'nt miss it for the world. Richard (Dick) Gagliardi-President/Corps Director Purple Lancers 56 Brigs 57-58-59

  8. The Purple Lancers are thrilled to be going up north to the St Lawrence Seaway for a parade and concert at Cape Vincent this weekend. It will be the first in a two week period that the corps will be in that area. On July 24th we will be in Ogdensburg for their festival with a parade in the morning and a concert that evening and looking forward to seeing Tom MacDonald and his group from Capital Brass! The Corps performances in May,June and now July have been noticed and invitations have been extended from communities in New York State to be part of their festivities. If there are experienced drum corps personnel who are itching to return to playing, marching and a desire to march in parades and do standstill concerts (No competition format) with no fees required and traveling by motor coaches to parades of 1 1/2 hour or more from Auburn with meals provided at no cost to its members, then make contact with the information provided in the web site (auburnpurplelancers.com).Every year we are striving to become stronger and better and to once again take our place in the upper echelon of the drum corps community. Our goal from the onset has been to slowly but surly attain this position with the least amount of hardship and financial burden on our members. Dick Gagliardi President/Corps Director Purple Lancers -56 Syracuse Brigadiers-57-58-59
  9. Yesterday as I was returning home on motor coach along with the Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps from Troy New York's large Flag Day Parade, I received a phone call from a parade committee member from an event that we are booked with in July. His initial inquiry was, and I quote"Dick have the Lancers folded" ? A recent parade in central New York had our drums being used by a local high school percussion ensemble. The Lancers graciously loaned these drums for this one parade and obviously the purple enhanced drums were easily recognizable along with a video on "youtube" showing this drum ensemble with no horns or color guard. Someone who was in attendance at that parade informed this committee member of this bogus evaluation that they seen the Lancers with drums only and they disbanded. After a considerable laugh, I proceeded to collect my thoughts and inform this committee member that all the chatter he hears are coming from our corps members returning from a very successful parade performance in Troy NY. Which,by the way happens to be our second appearance there in as many years. We were well received and invited back for next year in 2011. I am now setting the record straight "we are alive, well and solvent and are continuing to progress in a time frame that will assure us of stability and success. Take it from me"We expect to be around for long time"..This is straight talk and no exaggerated mumbo jumbo .We are now experiencing many request to perform at various parades and concerts throughout New York State. For all of the drum corps critics please refrain from any rumors or comments unless you have your facts straight. I believe that unfounded and untrue critical remarks have had a considerable effect on the disintegration of the drum corps landscape. Yesterday the Lancers experienced for the very first time in 35 years (even though this is our second year performing) the opportunity to mingle and be one of three corps in an area designated as a warm up area. Many renewed friendships were evident. The corps that were in our area were "Fusion Corps" from New Jersey and "Marksmen" from Mass..Numerous other Corps where in the parade but in a different location. The other corps that we are aware of were the U.S. Marine Corps Band or Drum Corps?? and the Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corps. All in all it was a great experience and the exposure level couldn't be better.Looking forward to Troy in 2011 for the Largest Flag Day Parade in the country. The birthplace of Uncle Sam. Richard (Dick) Gagliardi President/Corps Director Purple Lancers -56 Brigs 57-58-59
  10. The Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps of Auburn New York are starting their second year on the summer parade circuit. This will be the second year in a row that the Lancers will be participating in Troy NY for one of the Largest Flag Day Parades in the country. The corps will then be treated to a well deserved buffet dinner afterwards at Russell Sage Dining Hall on the campus of RPI. The corps is looking forward to many events this July including stints in Cape Vincent and Ogdensburg. We will end July with participation in the Annual Italian Festival Parade in Watkins Glen New York. In light of what has transpired to the east and west of us to our brother drum corps, who we hope will return on the scene in 2011, we are thankful that we are capable of remaining solvent and provide a real adequate performing musical group. The corps is looking forward also in marching and participating in the American Legion State Convention Parade in Syracuse, NY in July. The corps prides itself in its formation of the traditional color guard that was so evident of drums corps in the 50's, 60's and 70's . We are looking forward to a wonderful and experiencing summer for 2010. Our goal is to continue our progress in a manner that we feel will be condusive to our survival and popularity and not venture into situations that can jeopardize our future goals. Richard (Dick)Gagliardi-President/Corps Director
  11. To Tom MacDonald and the entire Capital Brass Ensemble..Thank you for such a splendid performance. The people in the city are still talking about your presence in Auburn. Your group along with PTB have started what we feel is an introductory to future things to come in May 2011. With your help and other ensembles we will hold a large standstill indoor concert competition next year with prize money. Three accredited drum corps judges have agreed to judge the contest..Criterias will be made up and sent to all mini corps throughout the Northeast in the Fall. Six mini corps will be invited,(A mini corps composition will be explained and evaluated when criterias are formulated) ..with the Purple Lancers putting on an exhibition. Thanks again Tom..you and your group have helped convince us that we can pave the way to a new era of drum corps competition....There are more months of inclement weather in the Northeast as compared to the sun belt states and west coast . Also ,three months of summer like weather in our part of the world puts extreme pressure in getting corps ready for summer competition not mentioning the expenses. Therefore its only logical that a new spirit of drum corps competition with new formats and criterias can revolve during Oct to May. Especially with(mini corps concepts) fewer participants and expenses. Not everyone has the luxury of 85-100 member drum corps.
  12. Let it be known that Capitol Brass and PrimeTime Brass are to be commended for their extreme sincerity and compassion for us as well as many others. Their motives are genuine and certainly revered by us as well as others. Their motives are about helping others , and this is where I feel a few organizations today have been remiss in their thinking and consequently preferring to be guided by their own personal agendas. Gentlemen my hat goes off to you both. You will always hold a special place in our memory bank.. I wish both of your organizations a steller 2010 with a beneficially financial ending. You both deserve it.. Thank you for your thoughfulness and kindness in being a big part of our first Brass Ensemble event. We have no doubt that your presence will greatly add to the success of the event on March 7th in Auburn. Thank you both again for the heart warming consideration you have extended to the Purple Lancers organization.. Richard A. Gagliardi President/Corps Director
