  1. I wholeheartedly agree with Brasso, Cadets 2015 was phenomenal. Their music and drill were both spectacular. They did win the Ott after all. I remember seeing Cadets at the Minneapolis regional and beaming because I was convinced that Cadets were on their way to run away with another founder's trophy.
  2. Cavaliers 2011 comes to mind, they were undefeated for quite some time....
  3. Vesuvius is one of the best moments from cadets’ past. If the rest of the show were on par with the last movement it would have been a winner in my opinion.
  4. Ugh George, trying to get back on board with the topic of discussion.... 😔. Of course I’ve heard that he organization lost donors/sponsorships as the result of what happened with GH. Can someone more educated than I tell this alum what the best case scenario would be for the cadets organization?
  5. I’ve been out of the loop for the past few years... but I’d love to see a new face in the top 3 hoping to see Boston, Blue Stars make a surge. I’m certain Boston will improve this coming season, but am uncertain what it will take Blue Stars to break that top 8 threshold. That being said - I don’t yet feel qualified to make an adequate prediction based on my lack of involvement as of late.
  6. Please list some of your most favorite/memorable drill moments from shows in the past. Mine is watching Cadets’ closer in 2008 which I believe to be the most physically demanding and visually appealing moment in DCI history. Cavaliers 2002 also had many memorable moments. Others?
  7. So... back on track. Any updates for how the January camp went? Anxious alum wants answers!
  8. I agree with the glassmen... poor pio kids! Poor teal sound kids...
  9. I agree, I’ve been out of the loop since I last attended a show in 2015. I had to do some research to know which corps I was watching while looking up snippets online. I was thoroughly confused by all the radical uniform changes. Ironically enough, BD and the Cavaliers looked the most traditional and were easily identifiable. It is indeed sad to hear of all this news, esp. with GH at the Cadets. I do think there needs to be change at the head of DCI to shake things up a bit. I’d LOVE to see crown wear cream again, SCV to go back to aussies, Boston to go back red and for the trusty maroon and gold to make its way back to the corps from Allentown.
  10. Being polite, sometimes I think its best to leave things "implied"
  11. Well, all we can do at this point is wait and see what they do this upcoming season. I have noticed the radio silence in regards to show announcements - I recall that it has been this way before, but in the past couple of years, more and more has been leaked from certain organizations. Though the tides are turning in regards to personnel, I rather appreciate the wait for a show release from the cadets, or other organizations for that matter, as much the drum corps fan in me wants to hear recordings and show announcements. I noticed that the Stars took their video down of their brassline. Are the Cadets having some thoughts about licensing with particular music? Perhaps a filmscore or something?
  12. I never was a fan of things hugging your body so close.....
  13. I was just looking for it myself... As an excited Alum I see that Frank Sullivan is returning to write/arrange for the Stars! His dark style always appealed to me.
  14. Innovation and hard work, and a large representation in the teaching world (I being one of those teachers) are things that do make the cadets the cadets. (The corps always has a "history night" from my understanding which is good). I'll just tell you that in my experience, when putting on the uniform, I felt honored to do so knowing that decades of generations of cadets before me wore a uniform not all that different from the one I was wearing. You are right in saying that the uniform is just a piece of fabric and identity should not be put in such an object, though because of the corps' long-running history, there is mutual respect garnered for those that came before. I guess the concern from the alumni is that the "baby is going to be thrown out with the bathwater" so to speak - so that little, if any of the recognizable portion of the cadets will remain. You are pretty passionate about this topic I can see and I apologize if I stepped on anyone's toes.
  15. I have no idea what is happening with the Cadets engine right now (apart from the change in staff) and have virtually dropped off the radar for the 2016 season, but as an alum I would love to see the traditional look come back. Before the flames arise, I am a fairly recent alum, but one of the last to wear a traditional looking Cadets uniform. As stated by another person who posted here, there is something behind wearing the uniform that those many, many years before you wore. In a chaotic transitional time, my personal view is that the members need right now is some sense of familiarity. I hope that the new incoming staff and design team can respect the traditions of the past whilst still being innovative, this is a difficult balance and a fine line to walk.
  16. 1st Pick - Phantom Regiment '03 2nd Pick - Phantom Regiment '06 3rd Pick - Phantom Regiment '08 (all of these were good shows, I'll compromise) too many good shows to pick from, but from the corps on that list I thought I'd at least say my favorite show On another note: Caviefan2000s brings up a great point - "I hope someday that The Cavaliers can can be on a list such as that..." The Cavaliers have had some tremendous shows, aren't they the winningest corps of this past decade anywho? I thought Cavaliers- '04 show ('007) was great and should at least get an honorable mention here.... that's just my opinion though
  17. In response to Mr. Michael Boo and Cop: -speaking in a completely official tone here and in the most polite way possible- *I am not concerned what others think of the corps that I am in *I have not revealed the name of the corps that I am in *I am working on my visual technique, just did some recordings today (it was in a parking lot next to a semi-busy street so I can assume that I got some weird looks) I'm sending these recordings into the techs for review now The jazz running technique is certainly proving a little bit difficult for me to get down, but I was not at the camp in which they taught it Although I should be working even more on my physical fitness and marching, I'm making an what effort I can to do what I can. My classes are not are not exactly easy... and my teachers get this idea that it's cool to cram everything at the end of the school year because we didn't pace ourselves accordingly for the 2nd semester *nods head Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, any advice is much appreciated
  18. Hi to all the Drum Corps fans and current members! Some Facts about me: I'm new to Drum Corps and this will be my first year marching a World Class Corps and I have to say that I'm extremely excited for this upcoming season. I've been going to camps and have been working on my visual technique but I have a couple issues that may present a small challenge for me... Getting to the point: I have been in HS Marching Band for 4 years but nothing has been as close to the intensity of Drum Corps ....and well I have A.D.D. and I'm not very Bodily Kinesthetically intelligent Let me put that into english I have a hard time focusing at times and can get easily distracted, and I'm not as athletic as I would like to be (I am good musician though, at least I have that going for me) I've noticed at camps that I've been picked out by the visual staff as one of the guys who tends to need more help than others getting the technique down So to all those vets out there, is it possible I could get some suggestions or help with this?
