The Centurions will be holding our next practice this Sunday Feb. 16 for Brass only. We still have some openings in all instruments... especially sopranos...this is a great time to come down and check it out! The ballad of our 2014 show will be handed out tomorrow, completing the show for the hornline! We will also be learning a new tune and reviewing for upcoming performances in the Hartford and New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parades. Percussion and Guard will have the weekend off, due to shows this weekend and our indoor unit's rehearsal on Sunday. The Centurions will be rehearsing this Saturday Febuary 1st. Due to indoor shows and other events going on this weekend, Percussion will NOT be required to attend. When: Saturday 2/1, 12:00-6:00pm Where: Sacred Heart Parish Center, 1103 Springfield St., Feeding Hills, MA Directions We still have some openings in ALL sections...brass players and guard performers are invited to come down this Saturday. Any percussion players that would like more info on the corps, or play on their own, though, are also invited to attend. The percussion section will rejoin us for our February Camp Weekend, Feb. 15 &16th.

*UPDATE* Due to a schefule conflict with our practice facility, rehearsal will be held from 2:30-6:30pm Saturday.

A program of the Enfield Performing Arts Group, the Centurions Indoor Percussion will be entering its second season in 2014. They will be holding an Open House for interested members. The Centurions are pleased to announce their 2014 Program: The Journey Join the Centurions as they leave their home in search of exotic new lands. The journey begins as they set off through the streets of the Great Roman Empire. Their departure is announced by the triumphant strains of the third movement of Respighi's Fountains of Rome, which is heralded in by proud trumpet fanfares from the far reaches of the field. Our regiment continues their march east, only barely avoiding being drawn into a fierce battle between Serbia and the Ottoman Empire. Tchaikovsky's March Slav is heard as the Centurions play witness to both the savage battle and glorious victory of the Serbian people. Though the sun may not shine equally on this battlefield, the melodic alto voice of the corps' mellophone section and its beautiful counter in the baritone section carry forth the story of this heroic struggle. Letting go of past differences, the corps is fed a hot meal by the King of the Great Persian Empire. It is here that they meet Scheherazade, a Queen whose beauty is only surpassed by her wit. The company finds it difficult to continue their journey, not wanting to depart these magical lands until Scheherazade's stories have ended. It is in “The Young Prince & The Young Princess” that the corps finds inspiration, interweaving the gentle harmonies of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade together to form the perfect ballad for their second season on the field. At long last, the Centurions have found a place worthy of their journey. Arriving in the city of Gath, the crew's curiosity if immediately piqued by the Temple of Dagon... or more specifically by the exotic music flowing from it. The “Bacchanale” from Camille Saint-Saëns' opera Samson & Delilah brings the corps' journey to a fast-paced conclusion, complete with percussion features, dizzying guard work, and even a few surprises. Join the Centurions as they roam through the eastern hemisphere in pursuit of greatness! According to the June issue of Drum Corps World, Sunrisers are moving up to Open Class. So, Class A should be (let me know if I forgot any): Last Years Competitors Govenaires Windsor Regiment White Sabres Cincinnati Tradition Shenandoah Sound Excelsior New or Returning Centurions Heartliner Lakeshoremen Sun Devils Tampa Bay Thunder SoCal Dream (not attending finals) So should be at least 11 Class A Corps at finals :thumbup:/>/>

The Centurions will be holding our first Camp Weekend this Saturday and Sunday May 25-26. As you may or may not know, we recently passed our DCA evaluation and will be competing this summer in Class A! There is much work to do in a short period of time to get ready for the season. We learned a large chunk of our opener this past Saturday and will push ahead with more drill this weekend! This is a great time to come down... we still have a few openings available for one more Baritone, Contra, Soprano and Bass Drum; 2 Pit and 2 Color Guard. Even if you are not sure about joining, just stop in and check us out either Saturday or Sunday! The Centurions are looking forward to a busy month of April as we move ever closer to the drill field. We have three exhibitions and a performance from our NEW indoor percussion line this month. Centurions Indoor Percussion started rehearsals in January and they have been working hard ever since on their show. Their final performance of the year and fundraiser dinner will be held on Sunday, April 28th. Here is the rundown (Note: these events are for the FULL corps, Indoor on the 28th only): April 6 - Exhibition, Bugler's Hall of Fame, Springfield, MA; 1:00 pm start, 3:30 show time April 13 - Rehearsal, Sacred Heart Parish Center, Feeding Hills, MA; 12:00-6:00 pm April 27 - Exhibition, Bugler's Hall of Fame, Bridgeport, CT; times TBA April 28 - Exhibition, South Hadley HS, South Hadley, MA, by the Centurions AND Centurions Indoor Percussion - Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for Centurions Indoor; 3:30 pm We still have a few openings in each section...brass, percussion, and guard.
